Does 'extreme' o'clocking serve a major purpose at this point?

Saying overclocking is useless, is like saying buying a faster computer is useless. What kind of stupid statement is that? I like to get the most out of my system, and on top of that I'm both an enthusiast and someone who relies on their computer and the speed of their computer for daily use...

Onboard vs Dedicated Audio

Xonar ST all the way :) Has replaceable Opamps, great quality caps (audio grade... which make a big difference versus what you find on your motherboard), extra timing chip/circuitry and excellent SNR. Digital or not, the sound still needs to be processed and interpreted - the cheap onboard...

Only in your opinion ;) That TX PSU is a cheap piece of garbage FYI. As an example: I passed on an old P35 board, CPU and RAM combo to my younger bother recently that was previously running off of an Enermax 625watt Modu80+ and would run solid at 3.9ghz (Core 2 Duo Wolfdale CPU) and 8GB of ram...

theAnimal, I'm not sure what reviews you've read but the very few I have read have put them to be in excellent light, which backs up my personal findings. The Seasonic units while good, are certainly not any better than the top of the line Enermax PSU's for certain. I wish you saw more reviews...

Just curious why you never read of the high-end Enermax PSU's anymore? All the talk lately is around Corsair units, Antec, Cooler Master etc. and IMO these units are #1 all made by the same company and #2 just aren't as good as an Enermax. Granted, Enermax PSU's are usually a good bit more...

Thanks Arcane - I've since found you seem to be correct, albeit too late however! haha Apparently the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P will run stable with 4 slots apparently though and found a good deal on one, currently being mailed. Hope I didn't make a mistake!

How are you supposed to fit dedicated sound cards on new motherboards?

How is HDMI from your video card the best output? It uses software CODEC's to produce the audio - albeit the same 'cheap' crud that is thrown in on motherboard to merely provide some form of sound processing.

I really think Asus sucks.

I've always stuck to either Asus or Gigabyte personally. I've never had either of these two brand boards die on me in any system build to date and I've been at it since the early/mid 90's. That being said, I've never bought one of their low-end boards. Always the $200+ range of releases outside...

Buy an Asus Xonar - awesome dedicated card with a great DSP. PCI-E 1x slot, and as mentioned you can usually find one in a convenient location on newer boards. I have a dedicated sound card with digital out to my receiver and floorstanding Klipsch monitors. Awesome sound for everything I do...

Is Twin BIOS tech dead?

Has anyone ever had to make use of a dual BIOS? AFAIK, it's a marketing gimmick. All the latest boards will reset on overclock failure - and if you blow a BIOS chip on your board, quite frankly you should RMA the board regardless as there will generally be another issue.

Cool. Anyways, I've gone and purchased today a Xeon X3370 cpu to throw in this thing and overclock the crap out of =) I found one cheaper than the Q9650's, and is the E0 stepping. Should be fun when I receive it next week.
