What part are you willing to invest the most into on your computer?

Almost every piece of my computer cost under $200, except my monitor. When I bought it it retailed at $1100. It's exactly like MisterBombastic said. The monitor is what you stare at all day, and if it gives you headaches looking at it, what good is your computer?

DVI Quick question.....

No, DVI does not draw power off the video card. You're probably thinking of ADB (Apple Desktop Bus), which is DVI but with power and USB built in, used by Apple for their Cinema Displays.

Just got a new Geforce 4. Having problems.

Ok, so I got a spare drive that I had and tried installing Win2k on it (with the gf4). I booted off the CD and ran the setup stuff just fine, but when it restarted to run the install program it would reboot every time. So then I tried the same thing on another computer and it works just fine...

AX-7 and rubber 'pads'

I read a review of this heatsink and the guy reviewing it said that it performed poorer with the spacers than without. Tho if you're going for a quiet computer the spacers would help reduce noise from vibration.

Just got a new Geforce 4. Having problems.

I tried using the 28.32 drivers off the nvidia website, but they wouldn't install. The program ran and appeared to install everything but after it restarted windows was still using the standard VGA drivers. I really don't want to resort to reinstalling windows. Such a chore. Doesn't windows...

250 meg zip disk - easy question

They're 250MB in the same way that HDDs are 80GBs, in that 1000KB = 1MB, so they're really 244MB, and the 100MB disks are acually 90 something.

Are you upgrading to a GeForce4 once the cards hit the market?

None of the above. I'm going to see how much the Ti4200's sell for, and if it's too much I'll maybe get a Ti500 or Ti200. I don't really feel I need a new video card at the moment, so I'm in no rush. Edit: I meant 4400. Not 4200. Heck, I guess I probably should wait for that too .

If you could change 1 component on your PC.

I would change my Duron600@900 (heh, I remember when that was an amazing OC :P) to an XP, so I can play around with the internal diode :D. If you mean spending my own money then I'd get a 1700, if not then maybe a 53 inch Hi Def DTV :cool:. Or maybe change my OS from crap*** Win98 to XP Pro.

Why a DVD-RAM drive? Why not a RW drive? A RAM disk will only work in a RAM drive, a RW will work in (most) anything.

How Commercial CDs are Made

Take a look here, it's better than I could ever explain it :o. I'm pretty sure the machine they use to make the CDs themselves is a CD press or CD stamper, and there are a few other machines they use to finish the CD once that's done.

Should I get a FLAT SCREEN 19" or NON-FLAT SCREEN 21"?

Flat screen is cool, but I wouldn't give up 2 inches just to have it. 21" is enormous and I wouldn't give up mine for the world, even if it were convex. Flat CRTs are great, but it's not the end of the world if a monitor didn't have one. There are plenty more features that are higher on my list...

simple Q: monitor ---> footprint?

Usually it's the size of the monitor itself. I.E. I have a 21" CRT, it's 19" deep. If I had an LCD then it'd be no more than 5" deep. The footprint of my monitor is rather large, 19"x19" or 361 square inches.

Monster cable is overpriced for what you get. It's fine cable, but you're just paying extra for a name. If you don't need a different connection or longer cable, just stick with what came with the xbox.

What is the BEST 3d card that comes in PCI???!!!

The only thing that would be better than an MX400 would be a voodoo5. There's just nothing out that uses PCI, because they all require the bandwidth from AGP. There's not much you can do without an AGP anymore.
