Fast sync in my experience does not make games choppier. I say it improves the gaming experience because it eliminates tearing and on my system it is still butter smooth. Fast sync only works when your fps is above your refresh rate...My monitor is only 60hz. Not sure why you question my...
I would not be surprised at all by this as well. My 7700K is butter smooth...especially with 'threaded optimization' on and 'fast sync' on in the Nvidia control panel.
Not sure, but it appears his overclocking results were not just a matter of hitting the silicon lottery. Most reviewers reviewed the 1700X or 1800X first so in a few days we should know more on how well the 1700 over clocks, but things appear promising.

You are not saving much money with a 1700X vs a 6800K or a 1700 vs a 7700K.. The Asus Crosshair VI costs more than it's Z270 counter part...so in the end you end up spending the same.

So, AMD has had a once in a decade IPC improvement and caught up to 10 year old Intel architecture and all of a sudden Intel is doomed. When Intel releases Skylake X this year and Cannonlake next year....let's see what happens. Plus, everyone hating on Intel for not making IPC improvements...
They are testing at the resolutions their readers most likely are using. Here in the states that won't be the case. You can clearly see as the resolution goes up the gap gets closer. At 1440p and 4K the gap will likely be even less.

And, I don't see Intel changing sockets for Z370. It is still a 14nm part and part of the Skylake optimization path. Only Cannonlake at 10nm should require a new socket.

I imagine all the boards needed was a bios update to get the memory stuff worked out. The tech YouTuber Steven Walton of Hardware Unboxed said explicitly he was having trouble with the memory on his Crosshair board.

Well, all the tests so far have been done stock vs stock where AMD appears to have the advantage. If Ryzen chips don't turbo as well as some are saying and overclock poorly...then in the end Intel may still likely have the 'performance' crown as their chips overclock well and very few people...
Actually...Linus mis-spoke on that. The chip AMD was showcasing during all the pre-launch events was the 1700X...not the 1700. And, in the video you are talking about if you look at the cpu code you see F4_40/36_Y...meaning 3.6ghz base clock and up to 4ghz boost....which is the 1800X...
Do you know this for sure? I only ask because all the tests done comparing Ryzen to their Intel counterparts were done at stock speeds with no turbo and a Ryzen chip turbo'd up to its max speed has not been shown to my knowledge. Intel's chips turbo by default and don't require any special...
