Hey all... I have an older system with a 700duron on a ka7-raid board; I want to put a 1.4 athlon on it, but of course I waited too long in my upgrade cycle, and now the only 1.4/200's left are $$$. I'd rather not go used. Q is, if cpu is unlocked, is there anything keeping me from running a...

Too much voltage?

I have heard that, actually several times over the last month or 2. http://www.hardocp.com"][H (I think) had a news article up a few weeks (or months...i cant keep track any more) ago about it. Seems people got better performance when dropping the core voltage. I suspect it had to do with heat...

seti reeeeally slow???

This doesnt sound like the problem, but i've had SetiDriver spaz out before and have multiple clients running simultaneously (not on the same work unit)..sometimes 2 or 3 clients processing, and another one trying to upload a result, and continually crashing/retrying. had to delete the entire ##...

nope. just hope that paperclip holds! :) i'd think of a more permanant solution..like a shroud that you can cut out of sheet aluminum...ill see about digging up the link tomorrow. a little safer, and much more efficient... G.

can i change CPU volt. on duron cpu?

Sorry to hear about your childhood trauma... but, yes, you can, either thru fiddling with the CPU Lx bridge connectors, or via BIOS/mobo settings... G.

Arctic Silver on a Tbird

I do have to say, that a "Translucent glaze" (something I read from the arctic silver website some time ago) will not work as well as a slighly thicker application layer.... For my own systems, for 3 processors now (1 duron, 2 athlon), a slightly thicker coat worked best in bringing...

yeah, i noticed something funky. running OGR (same client), even with the distributed.net client running at "high" priority (second highest priority, next to real-time...and i was not about to try that), it still couldnt get any CPU cycles from SETI, which was running at...

WU emailing procedure?

Yes, i had no problem copying in the work_unit and userinfo sah files into a (new) numbered directory under existing CLI installations, and restarting the CLI...picks them up right there. just dont delete those results files (but make sure there are no results files in directorys where you place...

Duron 600@800, is 81C too hot?

I'd have to agree with killrose; ive heard of around a 2-3 degree C difference in the "blow" vs. "suck" configuration (probably more to do with the case layout than anything else)...(religious wars mostly)... So either your fan wasnt rotating because it was hung up on the HS...

CASE MODDING questions? AND quiet 92mm and 120mm case fans ??

do what i did: get a three-way switch for the fan. three settings: off, 5v, and 12v. normal operation would be off or 5v, and gamming or S@H cracking would be running at 12v... k.

I've noticed the WU's for the last few days have not been taking as long...on the order of 1-3 hours less time on 900Mhz boxen. Anyone else notice this? I'll see if i can dig up some real numbers today...might be time to increase the cache sizes to suck down some easy units... G.

FSB O/C'ing Bottleneck?

Yeah, its the VIA chipset. I max my kt7-raid at 112 FSB, at any multiplier on my duron. generally speaking, this board will max at 110 or so; a FSB of 103 max is just very bad luck, at 112 good luck.... G.
