Sister's going to college soon. Want to give her a pepper spray system.
Have considered like a stun gun, but batteries do degrade and in all honesty there's a good chance the gun will be neglected until it's really needed.
Or are there any other options out there?
Would temporary confiscation of guns in the event of a domestic restraining order...really give you any problems? Really? You're law abiding, right? You treat your wife right, would never raise a hand, amirite?
They're neat intricate machines like watches.
That's basically what it is. But then like people take themselves too seriousliy and get caught up in some dumb higher purpose about the 2nd amendment and defending liberty and make all sorts of dumb arguments like women need AR15's to defend...

Good job, guys. Way to be serious about responsible gun ownership.

I'd probably do like NY does: limit semi-automatic capacity to 7 which is basically a 1911 or garand (gun nerd alert: it holds 8 rounds. OMG omg omg).
automatic weapons of course should not be allowed. Imagine all of the convenience store robbers who would spray the streets with...
I've said many times that I'd be okay with the WWII era weapons like the 1911 being legal, or the springfield. I don't think battlerifles like the US Army uses should be legal because they make it too easy to kill large numbers of people in public areas.
My favorite gun is the 1911. Maybe the Mosin Nagant too. It's on my to-do list, but pretty far down, like 36.
I seriously do think the 2nd should be repealed though. You don't need a constitutional amendment for there to be automobiles all over the place, no?
I'm making a more nuanced argument here. I recognize that people enjoy sport shooting. However, I don't think enough people realize the health hazards of shooting with lead bullets. Shoot thousands of rounds and that's a lot of lead. Plus, all the lead that's left in people's like backyards and...
You mean Thomas Jefferson, the man who raped Sally Hemings and held his own children in slavery? Whose failure to address slavery adequately led to a civil war in the next generation?
Nice arguing there.
It's not even an anti-gun thing to say that bullets should be made out of something other than lead, is it? Or are you so paranoid that even measures meant to improve gun owner health trigger gun confiscation fears?
Gee, you're so hung up on terminology that you won't even address the issue of lead in the environment as a consequence of gun usage. Not surprising. Gun guys are rarely even-handed, will often throw up terminology (EG: "OMG, he said clip instead of mag, har har had") to distract.

The military is in the process of cleaning up, but civilian ranges will lag far behind. And they're so paranoid that they'd resist like crazy any EPA effort to clean it up, even though it would be good for them to not...
I'm not calling them crazy. I'm calling them sick due to environmental factors such as lead. Which leads to dementia, aggression, paranoia, plenty of which you see in gun owners who seem more paranoid than most about killing an armed stranger like in an action movie.
Gee, if you're constantly...
I haven't. I've pretty much stuck with the last position fwiw, after all the facts came out. You seem to think it's a virtue to make up your mind upon reading the first local news story and then sticking with it no matter what comes up.
And I haven't posted in it every single day, for over a...
*breathes in lead fumes*
*becomes paranoid that faceless minority thugs will want to steal the $60 he keeps under his mattress*
*hugs $2k gun*
*breathes in more lead fumes*

I'm glad that it has turned out the way it has.
Now every gun self defense nut will think twice before shooting someone in public. Poor George wears a bulletproof vest when he goes to the grocer! haha!
You're so disorganized in your thoughts.
Obviously no one hunts deer with shotguns, but the typical rifle shot used to kill deer often has a lead core. Because it's cheap. if you actually read the article, it went on about how venison donated by hunters has been found to have elevated levels...
You also have to consider the impact of lead ammunition used by hunters on wildlife. Bullets will shatter through a deer on impact and so the meat that a hunter eats often is filled with lead. But beyond that, birds and other wildlife might accidentally eat a lead pellet and die that way.
I'd...
Here's a related article:

Crime waves tend to rise and fall with lead in the environment.
Might explain this guy
No one who's replied so far has even read the article.
Thanks for the help. It's not trolling, you're just too stupid to realize that calling members of the military, police, etc. "gun nuts" isn't trolling. -DrPizza
You know how many times gun nuts ADHD the whole, "they're comin to take away our guns" thing? and how no matter how often people explain carefully that they're not, they don't seem to register but instead just shout again, "they're comin' to take our guns"?
http://www.motherjones.com/blue-marble/2013/01/lead-shooting-ranges-osha
That probably explains the aggression, impulsivity, and paranoia that so many gun nuts exhibit. They're breathing in lead vapor everytime they fire the weapon.
