I was running a single HD4870 for a long time as I mostly played Modern Warfare 2, TF2 and Starcraft 2. That said upgrading to a HD6870 is worthwhile, minimum framerate never drops below 60 and I can slap on some AA. So even playing some good old classic games is always nicer with a beefer card...
