  1. Question Diablo4 causing gpu's to die

WTF are you talking about? At no point did I saw there some some API call that will kill GPUs. I specifically talked about load characteristics. The software that is running is what dictates load characteristics. In the case of a game, there are tens of thousands of API calls made every second...
  2. Question Diablo4 causing gpu's to die

But there are key differences. 1: A CPU does not have any power circuits on it. The motherboard handles all the power delivery. If this issue happened for a CPU, the CPU would not be impacted at all. It would be the motherboard that failed. Which HAS happened. But the blame is always on the...
  3. Question Diablo4 causing gpu's to die

I have worked on Windows drivers before. So I am aware of how user space software interacts with the hardware. And its worth noting with DX12 and Vulcan, games are much closer to the metal than they were with older APIs. The issue with New World was the game itself being poorly coded which...
  4. Question Diablo4 causing gpu's to die

Please note, I am not defending nVidia. But having worked in the development of software, and hardware, The hardware manufacturer cannot protect a card from every single possible piece of software out there. They can test for a whole lot of different situations, but they can't test software...
  5. Question Diablo4 causing gpu's to die

And what happens if you turn on vsync? Right, but running without a frame cap isn't "normal" conditions.
  6. Question Diablo4 causing gpu's to die

While I believe that's likely the case here, there is nuance to it. 100% utilization with static load is one thing. 100% utilization with sudden changes in load is another. In the case of New World, the sudden changes in load caused massive current spikes. The utilization stayed 100%, but the...
  7. Question Diablo4 causing gpu's to die

Sounds like more people that think frame caps are a joke, and they should be able to run any game they want at unlocked frame rates. Because as we all know, in this PvE game, higher FPS means you kill demons way faster. I just do not understand people that think its fine to run the GPU at 100%...
  8. Question Evga Geforce 1660 Super Noticed Only Secured with One Screw Is that a Problem?

Two screws is more secure, but if its just sitting on your desk, one screw is fine for that GPU, which is relatively company to higher end GPUs. If we were talking about a 3090 or something, having all these screws in is pretty important due to the weight of the card. A 1660 being a low end...
  9. Question Matrix Awakens City Sample is now available for download on PC

Nobody cares about how many hundreds or in some cases thousands of FPS the game gets.
  10. Question Matrix Awakens City Sample is now available for download on PC

Bit of a necro thread here. But with there being UE5 games out, I don't see anybody using this tech demo to benchmark stuff.
  11. Question Is there any data on RTX 4090 coil whine

Its certainly not a cure all. But it can address it if it is being caused by dirty power.
  12. Question Is there any data on RTX 4090 coil whine

It means running the power through something that will filter out noise and set a constant voltage with a clean syne wave. Some areas have pretty dirty power, and can cause all sorts of unwanted oscillations in things like power supplies and audio equipment. You can also get noise on the line...
  13. Question What kind of hardware would I need for 3 monitors?

I have not seen a motherboard with 3 video output ports though. And it certainly would not play any games.
  14. Question HWUB revisits the RX 5700 XT in 2022 (versus the 2060 Super and RTX 3060) in newer games.

Yeah, I agree that 12GB should be the minimum right now, unless gaming at 1080P, or maybe only playing not-current games. Then getting a used 8GB card is enough for now.
  15. Question Has the consumer gaming GPU technology timeline lost it's way? Where are the AFFORDABLE 16GB VRAM cards to choose from?

In my head, 20 years ago was 2000, obviously not the case as its 2023. In 2003 (actually 20 years ago), I got a Radeon 9800 Pro, and it was $399. Back in 2000, I got the original Radeon. Which is what I was going off in my head, and I think it was $189? Clearly I should have looked at the...
  16. Question Has the consumer gaming GPU technology timeline lost it's way? Where are the AFFORDABLE 16GB VRAM cards to choose from?

Yes, people often purchase based on price. But price doesn't dictate the tiers. Same goes for cars. A compact sedan today cost double what it did 20 years ago. That doesn't mean that its not longer a compact sedan.
  17. Question Has the consumer gaming GPU technology timeline lost it's way? Where are the AFFORDABLE 16GB VRAM cards to choose from?

The GPU "tiers" have always been defined by performance, never price. It just so happens that mid performance cards tend to be in the middle on price. If we go back 20 years, a top end card was $200 dollars. Prices will always fluctuate. But there has always been cards that fill the low, mid...
  18. Question are video card prices headed down yet?

I had an RCA Perfect Flat CRT TV. I wish I had the space to keep it for retro games, as it was one of the best CRT TVs made. But sadly I had to give it away as I have a small house.
  19. Question Has the consumer gaming GPU technology timeline lost it's way? Where are the AFFORDABLE 16GB VRAM cards to choose from?

Not going to watch the click bate video. But the MSRP of the 6000 series was set before the mining boom. Their current prices are well below MSRP. And not sure where you are seeing them at $600. Here is a Sapphire 6800 Pulse for $510...
  20. Discussion RDNA4 + CDNA3 Architectures Thread

I think it comes down to cost. Right now, GDDR6X is more expensive than adding cache. So by AMD adding a lot of cache, they could use the much cheaper GDDR6. I think even with GDDR7, cache will still be beneficial. Especially if AMD goes forward with having multiple GCD chiplets.
  21. Question Could my eVGA SuperNOVA T2 1600 PSU be causing RTX 4090 coil whine?

Why did you create a new thread for the same issue that you already have a long running thread for here: http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=threads/is-there-any-data-on-rtx-4090-coil-whine.2609223/
  22. The 2023 Games Thread - What Will You Play This Year?

I have been playing it like I play a lot of other RPGs, in that I do only side quest until I have to do a main story quest (gold badge) to get more side quest. As a result, I have almost every single spell and almost level 30 and I am hardly into the main story quest.
  23. Question are video card prices headed down yet?

Prices dropped down last fall. You can still find some AMD 6000 series cards for way below their original MSRP. The 7900 XT is also being seen for below MSRP. If you really want nVidia, you are kind of out of luck. Most are still being sold for MSRP (over priced for performance), rather than on...
  24. Question are video card prices headed down yet?

Are you running with no frame cap or something? Not sure what model cards you have specifically, but if you are running with vsync on, they should not be overly loud as their power draw goes down significantly. Also, the AMD control panel has one button undervolting, and you can use Radeon Chill...
  25. Question are video card prices headed down yet?

I have been running Asrock motherboards for ages (Intel and AMD), and I have never had a single issue. Now, I have not run one of their lower end boards, and perhaps those ones are not great going off the other comments here. But the higher end ones I have used work well. The VRMs have adequate...
  26. News Nvidia 4Q22 Earnings

The MCDs are relatively cheap to produce. You also have to take into account that AMD was able to use a cheaper memory subsystem because of it. Sure you can single out the price of one component, but its the cost of the combined system that matters. And there is most certainly a cost difference...
  27. News Nvidia 4Q22 Earnings

How did RDNA stumble out of the gate? The 7900s were never intended to compete with the 4090. And they compete well enough with the 4070Ti/4080. In some games RT performance on AMD is down, but in others it is equal or better. The single biggest issue AMD has to overcome is mindshare. Just too...
  28. Question What kind of hardware would I need for 3 monitors?

Its a 4K display, but has to be run at 1440 for AdaptiveSync?
  29. Question What kind of hardware would I need for 3 monitors?

As noted above, whatever TVs you are using need to have display port inputs. Pretty much no video card has three HDMI ports. Eyefinity is specifically for multiple monitors. The other issue with TVs is that most of them do not have support for variable refresh (AdaptiveSync/FreeSync).
  30. Question What kind of hardware would I need for 3 monitors?

Well, yeah. It still needs to be placed in that mode, its not automatic. On my TV for instance, I have to configure that specific HDMI port for it. I mean, "High End Gaming" is never "worth it" unless you are making money off of it by streaming, or competing or something. It just comes down...
  31. AMD Ryzen 5000 Builders Thread

PCIe 8x is not going to bottleneck your GPU. There have been a lot of tests with various lane widths and PCIe gens. Its also pretty common for the GPU slot to run at 8x if you have NVMe drives.
  32. AMD Ryzen 5000 Builders Thread

I opted to go to a 5800X3D (from a 3700X) because its way cheaper to upgrade to that CPU than it is to go to an X670 board and 7K CPU. While at the same time having better performance in games than most 7K CPUs.
  33. 8GB VRAM not enough (and 10 / 12)

Ahh, OK. I probably should have clicked on that before mentioning it, but figured it was a benchmarking tool. My mistake. I still question the benchmarking if they are starting off in an area, and not moving to another area. Thats where everybody has issues. Like, being indoors at hogwarts, and...
  34. Question What kind of hardware would I need for 3 monitors?

Unless you are putting the TV into 'game mode' (Which bypasses all the processing they normally do), the input latency is terrible. You can get used to it, to where you wont notice it much. But there is a reason a lot of console games have an input lag setting to calibrate it so that you button...
  35. 8GB VRAM not enough (and 10 / 12)

I could be totally off, its an assumption. But other recent UE4 games that I have played have not had the issues this game does.
  36. 8GB VRAM not enough (and 10 / 12)

Like I mentioned above, they use the built in benchmarking tool. Which in my experience, runs fine for me. No VRAM issues. The VRAM issues happen after playing for a while.
  37. Question RX 7900 XT Crashes - Help!

Glad you are getting a replacement, and that their side of the process was quick.
  38. 8GB VRAM not enough (and 10 / 12)

The games coming out this year on UE5 all had unveilings several years ago. Its not like nobody had access to UE5 until this last summer.
  39. 8GB VRAM not enough (and 10 / 12)

I am on an AMD card, with with me playing it on a 1440P display, with FSR Quality (960P), with everything set to High, it runs fine with no stuttering. If I set it to ultra, it stutters every time I run out of VRAM (Which I can watch in afterburner). I should note that I also have Smart Access...
  40. 8GB VRAM not enough (and 10 / 12)

I think you are right, but boy is there some contradicting information on it. Some articles say it started off using UE5. Some say its Luminous, but using UE5 elements. But either way, very few games using UE5 for now, as the engine is still new.
