Logitech z-2300s

I need to replace my Logtiech z-540 system (sub/amp blown), and I'm thinking maybe I don't need surround anymore. So, I'm looking at the Logitech Z-2200 and its replacement, the z-2300s. Anybody heard both of these? The z-2200s, if I can find them, have a $50 rebate, so they'd be in the $50...

broken pin on hard drive

This ended up being the problem for me on my IBM/Hitachi GXP180 (my post here). Replacing a single pin seems pretty tough. I like the idea of cramming another pin in the connector on the cable, and leaving the cable connected permanently, but I don't know if it'll work.

Hard Drive only works when connected as ATA33

Ok, figured it out. One of the pins on the IDE connector on the drive is broken off. Yuck. It's the one just to the right of the "blank" space where the notch on the cable goes. This hasn't happened to me in 7 years of building computers-- guess I've been lucky. Anyone know how to fix this...

Hard Drive only works when connected as ATA33

Ok, so once when I restarted the BIOS told me "no 80-pin cable installed." Duh-- I have an old IDE cable hooked up, because that's the only way the drive works. I tried switching again to the ATA66/100 cable, and again, the HD wouldn't boot. Is this a mobo or an HD problem?

Best Mouse for Gaming?

I don't care what you guys say-- I can't frag worth a crap with optical mice. I use one for work, but for my home machine, it's the trusty ol' Logitech Mouseman Wheel all the way. Love that mouse.

PC adapter for PSX controller ?

Yeah, do a search for "PSX USB" on ebay and you'll get a ton of results. I bought one for like $7, and it works flawlessly with XP, no drivers loaded or anything. None of the PC gamepads ever feel quite right to me the way a PSX controller does. I wouldn't play Tony Hawk 3 without it.

System only reading 128mb of my 256 stick

Yup, had that problem too. Older mobos only recognize half of two-bank DIMMS. I put a 128 meg stick in my crappy HP work machine (Celery 700), and it only recognizes 64 megs. Sucks.

Does order of cards in PCI slots really make a difference?

Order of PCI cards is always a trial and error process, and it's different for different mobos. I usually throw them in one at a time.

This happened to me too... I just emailed Abit about it and they sent me a new one for free! It was odd, no warranty or ownership verification-- they just sent it to me right away! So now the same thing happened on my KT7A... guess I'll fire another email. The fans they use must be super-cheap.

Man, I don't remember the url, but I did it myself a few times (back when I was still using Intel!). It's easy, just put a screw upside down on a table and push the processor down on top of the screw (lining up the screw with each hole on the processor, one at a time). The little brackets pop...
