Instead of focusing on why developers don't like Android and making strides to fix it, he's saying it doesn't matter if they don't like it because they will be forced to develop for it anyways.

I don't understand what point you're trying to get at if you're not trying to put down ICS or the people who crave it.
I'm sure you could get the entire phone to look and have most of the features if you put in a good amount of effort, or you could just get a simple update.

Just because you aren't hungry for the features a new version provides doesn't mean other people can't be.
Personally, I'm very happy this Galaxy Nexus I'm about to purchase is running ICS; I doubt if it was running Gingerbead I'd be buying it.
ICS does add nice features like folders, unified social network contacts, facial unlock, and more.
But more importantly it's an almost complete design upheaval of current Android, complete with a much better font.
The only thing trapping you to the iOS ecosystem at this point is just the realization that you're not going to be getting the same high quality app/game selection on any other platform.

Unless you're referring to the days when iTunes had DRM, I have no clue what you're talking about; it's just as easy to port songs to other devices/programs as it is with anything else you do..no "tricks" required.
Not too mention you aren't forced to buy music on iTunes just like you aren't...

Most people don't care to think about what OS any device they own is, so unless it's obvious to them (iOS devices) they don't really check.
Point is, the Kindle Fire is running a heavily modified version of Android that doesn't resemble any other Android tablet...
I'm talking about the general public, of course geeks like you are gonna want to hack Android on it; but the vast majority of people just see it as an Amazon Tablet, they don't know it's based off of Android and how would they?
Honestly, the GS2 is the only phone that scrolls that smooth; even the Galaxy Nexus isn't that smooth.
The only reason the GS2 is that smooth is because it has such powerful hardware with a low-res screen.
A big problem for Android, no matter how pretty they can make it look now, is third party apps.
Apple has already established a culture that puts emphasis on great UI and design, and it shows.
Android never established such a culture, and making stuff prettier isn't enough to do so.
Why? Windows Phone 7 runs better than this does on worse hardware.
What would be the point?
I guess 720p WP7 would be amazing but MS isn't gonna up the resolution on Windows Phone until Windows Phone 8 comes out...they want to keep things simple for app developers.
