I've got a P35 Gigabyte board too, and it's running a Q6600. Mine clocks up nicely to 3.2GHz.
Those gigabyte boards are solid boards just update you HSF. Thermal Take or Artic Freezer. ($20-$25)
DDR2 RAM is getting expensive, so adding 4 more GBs is going to cost, and you won't be able to...
For the time being, the x58 still offers features the p55 & p67 don't offer. Tripple channel RAM for one, and true 16x PCI-E graphics for SLI & CF.
Keep in mind that the x58 requires the LGA 1366 & the P67 is designed for the new LGA 1155.
For that extra $20, you're getting sataIII, twice the cache, & 2 years more on the warranty. Not to mention, if you're buying from newegg, the Samsung they have priced at $69 has $7+change for shipping, which closes the gap even more.
Samsung makes great TV's, great monitors, & great cell phones. I've never been too hot on their hard drives however. And I've honestly just stayed away from their opticals, so I don't know about those. (you can't go wrong with Lite-On or Pioneer, even LG for opticals)
I'd buy either an...

Take a small paper clip and un-bend it (straighten it out) On the front of the drive bezel, you should see a small hole, usually located under the tray. While the...
I also run apps like 3D Studio Max and Adobe CS/ Premiere.
Ditch the idea of an ATI card. First off, flashing a new 6950 will void any warranty.
You can get an EVGA or BFG GTX 470 which is a great card for the price, plus has a lifetime warranty, and your 3D apps will eat up the CUDA...
Buy hard drives. I'm to the point I don't even use optical media any more unless I'm giving something to a friend. I've gone with MVix to stream HD media to my TV's wireless from any computer in the house with an open share. Hard drives are so cheap and much faster than burning a stack of...
The speculation over whether or not the socket 775 is 'dead' or not has been going on since late 2009 when people were saying that ASRock would be the only manufacturer making 775's within 6 months. Well that's doesn't seem to be the case 18 months later and probably won't be the case for a...
