Question Problem with integrated camera on Thinkpad

I didn't contact them, they don't appear to have any free support options. I'm not going to reinstall my OS most likely, I can use my work laptop for video, but this is annoying.

Question Problem with integrated camera on Thinkpad

I have a Thinkpad T14s. I was having an issue with the camera in MS Teams - it would not turn on, despite working perfectly well in Zoom and Google Meet. I tried to update the drivers, and the only thing I managed to accomplish is stop the camera from working at all. I've checked the privacy...

I did not, support is commonly not very useful, but I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Question Weird issue with an LG Monitor

OK, very odd behavior. If I am not using my PC, my monitor goes to sleep after a while, just like it is supposed to. But, if I am using my PC, I eventually get warnings that the monitor will turn itself off if not used, unless I push a button. Pushing a button actually does nothing, and the...

Question No POST after replacing CPU - and no POST after putting back old one

Well, that was the solution. Unplugged everything, left just RAM and monitor. Posted happily first time, both with the old CPU and then the new. I... I don't know. The case fans are not working, however. I have four, and none are running. Hmmmm.

Question No POST after replacing CPU - and no POST after putting back old one

Thanks, I'll do as you suggest. I'm hoping it is not the pins because it seems unlikely both CPUs would have that issue, but I will take a close look. Pulling out the RAM makes it make the "RAM problem" beep, so that's encouraging. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that nothing got fried...

Question No POST after replacing CPU - and no POST after putting back old one

I did reconnect the CPU fan, and it is working, but I just noticed the case fans aren't working. I literally did not touch anything else, but maybe accidentally pulled on a wire causing a poor contact somewhere and a lack of juice to the board? I've never killed anything through static either...

Question No POST after replacing CPU - and no POST after putting back old one

Replaced an i5 6400 with an i5 6600k on an ASUS Z170P board; didn't touch anything else. Turn machine back on, everything lights up, CPU fan spins, but no beep. Tried clearing CMOS. No dice. I thought maybe BIOS needs updating? Put old 6400 CPU back, tried again, same problem - no post...

    Which card for VR?

1440p would be for the Samsung Odyssey+ My monitor is 1080p, so even the 970 I have is OK in most games, although not all. It starts to fold on Battlefield V even at medium settings.

    Which card for VR?

With a budget of $500. 2070? A used 1080ti? Or either of those overkill, considering I won't be gaming at more than 1440p?

    Quick and cheap HDD recovery?

I have a hard drive that failed; clicking and unreadable. The important stuff on there is backed up, but I have some odds and ends on there which will be a bit of a pain to reconstruct. Anything I can try that's quick and easy for stuff that is not all that important?

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

OK, so I "solved" the problem but the solution doesn't make any sense either. I used a DVI to HDMI adapter to connect to the DVI out on the 970 to the HDMI in on the monitor (which doesn't have a DVI in), and used the HDMI out on the 970 to connect to the TV, hoping maybe if the computer was...

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

I went through the same thing as before, got the same error message that a change could not be made, but after I received the error message I tried deleting those folders again - and it worked! So I have no idea why I received the error message or why it worked afterwards. It's another Windows...

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

Well... I managed to take ownership of the folders and delete them, did a clean install of the drivers; no joy. I also did a refresh of Windows 10. Still the same. This is just so weird.

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

I am in that BUILTIN group, but it is still acting as if I'm not. FileAssasin doesn't work. I'll try using the elevated Command prompt.

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

I DO have Admin privileges on my computer, that's what so bizarre. It's telling me I need permission for the deletion from the logged in admin account. I'll give the forced deletion software a shot, thanks. By the way, why do you not recommend reimaging unless it is the last resort? It's easy...

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

Doesn't seem like hardware. Plugging the HDMI cable into a different TV results in a "No signal" message and BluRay works just fine on the TV I was using. I'll try it, but I doubt it would work - the TV is pretty basic, so only adjustable paramters are things like brightness, tint, etc. which...

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

Yep. Tried this. (DDU actually says it cleans up the registry). Ran DDU, ran CCleaner, everything appeared to be OK, installed new drivers (clean install, graphics driver only), TV screen working OK. As soon as I boot out of safe mode and into normal mode, same problem. Booting back into safe...

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

Well, tried it, the NVIDIA drivers still get auto installed. I delete everything I can find, but as soon as I reboot out of safe mode, Nvidia drivers get reinstalled, and this happens pretty much instantly. Where the hell are they? I really can't even figure out what the problem is - why is...

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

I don't think it was downloading them, I believe the Nvidia driver is included with Windows because it doesn't even install the driver, it's pre-installed. But I turned off that setting, it may control installation and not just downloading. I'll try again tonight. Thanks.

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

It was one of the first things I tried, and it works great, as long as Windows thinks it's just a generic video card with a generic driver. As soon as it recognizes the 970, it reinstalls Nvidia drivers and the problem reappears.

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

Looks like the Nvidia drivers are being reinstalled even after I delete them - probably from the driver repository? I can't delete all traces of Nvidia because I can't delete the Nvidia files from the driver repository. Every time I try, it asks me to get permission from SYSTEM, I tried changing...

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, the PC monitor works without any issues with any driver. The TV is what has issues. There is no on board video. Everything works OK if I revert to the basic Microsoft display adapter, but obviously that would have a big impact on gaming, which is precisely what I...

Weird monitor problem - solved (sort of)

I run a TV display and a regular monitor hooked up to my PC. Both are 1080p displays. They are not both on at the same time, I have an HDMI switch. Everything had been working fine for months. Recently, a new problem appeared - when I switch to the TV monitor it starts freaking out - there is no...

    Really bizarre keyboard problem

Actually, the standard Win10 repair install does NOT leave user-installed programs in place, it deletes them, unlike previous Windows OS's, it only leaves personal information. Which is why I was looking for a way to do a repair install without deleting user-installed programs. I did, finally...

    Really bizarre keyboard problem

Tried linux and it recognizes the comma key just fine. Definitely a W10 problem. I think I've run out of options at this point. Have to do a repair and reinstall all of my programs. What a pain in the ass.

Yeah it was one of the first things I tried. It didn't find any corrupt files. A repair install is looking more and more likely. Ugh.

    Really bizarre keyboard problem

tried everything except a full repair. I really don't want to reinstall all of my programs which a "restore" will do - keep my files but wipe my installed programs. Plus this was an upgrade win10 install so I don't have a win10 disk. I suppose just copying down my serial No. will work? I have...

    Really bizarre keyboard problem

Out of the clear blue sky my computer decided that the key press for comma is actually a "b". It's the only key on the keyboard that's messed up. The actual "b" is still a "b." I tried a different USB port and a different keyboard without any luck. I thought of re-assigning the key with software...

    Problem OC'ing 2500k

Thank you for the guide, but I'm not a newbie to overclocking and in any case, there are guides specific to this mobo. I've tweaked the settings, but with the multiplier at 40+, the system boots at 3.8. That's just weird. I've seen throttling because of temps, but not when the temps are cool. It...

    Problem OC'ing 2500k

I have the Asus P8P67 LE mobo and no matter what I do, the board won't let me go over 3.8Ghz. Not just under load, the throttling occurs when I boot into Windows. 3800 and no more, regardless of what the multiplier is in the BIOS or what voltage I select. Any ideas what the problem may be? Temps...
