Free remote access software (for use over Internet)?

Generally teamviewer is free for personal use. However they have been known to be somewhat aggressive with flagging systems/accounts as commercial use. If you use it for personal, write to their support and they should be able to turn de-flag your account.

You're basically telling me to not reuse anything(the CPU does not support ECC ram). That's not the point of the exercise. No matter how cheap old ECC ram is, not spending even that much is even cheaper. And there is nothing special about ZFS over any other filesystem that requires ECC. Now...

[TT]Battlefield 4 PC system requirements aren't harsh at all

Everybody needs to get up in a hurry and ditch DX9 and 32bit and FAST... Thankfully FB3 is doing the first part at least! The weirdest thing I saw is a new Plants vs Zombies will use FB3. Go figure. :D We will be bedazzled by the awesome detail of the humble garden-variety zombie(no pun intended).

New build for my wife

It's Ivy Bridge(which is nice), the mobo is nice. The PSU is overkill. Not good for anything demanding as far as video goes(will play 1080p, but forget about games). A small SSD would still constitute a "quantum leap" in performance. Doubt it critical though.

Right. Vivacom mean anything to you then? I do NOT care how you get the data. I just want it as if it was a file playing from the computer on a media player of my choosing. End of story. Example: take cable from set top box, plug in video card, download software and be done.

Er, this would require the content to already be available on the PC. Something which it is not. Right now it goes from the set top box directly to the monitor, entirely skipping the PC. As in, it's the wrong technology for this problem.

Agree. A 3 tier system with lots of RAM is best. If you want the ultimate for SSD get the new intel S3700s, otherwise one of the other regular choices would be just fine. And the RE4's are perfect here as well. Two separate SSD's are overkill(one's got enough performance for all your app...

So what's the point of that number they designate the data rate with, if more than 70% of it is wasted? (You probably don't have to answer that.) Still, I was expecting real speeds at least in the vicinity of 100mbps.

Well, duh... Still, you're probably right to point that out since I've given no background. Nifty program. Not much help, but still. Anyway, I played with the settings. Using AES instead of TKIP and changing some channels I got it to a relatively satisfactory 6-7MB/s. Still not 300Mbps. Wireless...

b/g/n flavours all supported. As mentioned, on the old router I got up to ~5MB/s. If it was possible then, I see no reason that it should be lower on the new one. P.S. In the connection status speed is listed as 54Mbps.

I just got myself a new router - TP-Link TL-WR1043ND. The old one was just some cheap model that the ISP gave me. It worked pretty consistently with something like 11MB/s wired and 5MB/s wireless. The new one, was supposed to be faster(being a gigabit/300Mbps one). The wired part works...
