Acer 1208A

I just replaced my Sony 4X SCSI CD-R drive with the Acer 12x8x32 ATAPI CD-RW drive. I removed the Sony, then installed the Acer. I tried to burn a data CD and it gave me an error (Nero 5.5.2.4, CDRWin 3.8D, CloneCD 3.0.2.3, EZCD Creator 4.03). The drive reads CDs fine, but I can't burn. Nero...

Abit BM6

I built a computer with the Abit BM6 for a friend of mine a year and a half ago. He wants a faster CPU (Celeron 400@600 PPGA, currently). Abit's website doesn't go into detail what CPUs the board can handle. It just says Socket370 Celeron. I was wondering if it can run the 100MHz FSB...

MSI 6337 v3.0

I just got a MSI 815EP Pro (my ASUS P3V4X died). I am having trouble getting my PIII 600E to overclock to 800 (6x133). I had no problem with the ASUS (was actually running at 6x136). I can get up to 6x127, anything higher won't post. A problem I am having is that when I change the VCORE...

Best Slot 1 board for a P3 800 @ 133

I would get an ASUS P3V4X. I have one. I was thinking about getting rid of it for the Socket-370 version (ASUS CUV4X), but I'm going to wait for the i815E that has NO built-in video. Should be out by the end of the year or early next. Later

DirectX 8.0

I have used every BETA release of DX8. I don't know if it makes a difference over DX7. Until hardware and software supporting DX8 is used, they are not necessary. The latest release is pretty good, though. Later

Kudos to KDS monitors!

It seems like a lot of people are having to return a dead KDS monitor after having them only a short while. It seems like it is either cheap parts or poor shipping. I hope it's not cheap parts because I might get one. Mac

Mag Innovision 19" Pure Flat (DX890F)

Motherboads with Promise controllers built in question...

I have an ASUS P3V4X, and it doesn't have a Promise controller. It uses the VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset (694X/596B). It supports UDMA 33/66. No RAID support. The ASUS CUSL2 also does NOT use a Promise controller. The ICH2 takes care of it. MacGyver1

VIA KT133 now but ............ What is next Duron/Thunderbird Chipset?

Are the AMD760 or DDR boards going to have clock multiplier adjustments? I'd rather wait for those boards to come out before I buy. I picked up a DURON 600 (OEM, week 23, unlocked) two weeks ago. Figured I'd pick one up before they are all gone. Later, MacGyver

DDR Chipsets

Does anybody know if the DDR boards will have the ability to change the clock multiplier like the KT7/A7V? It seems as though AMD is making sure that their CPU's clock multiplier can't be changed with currently shipped CPUs. MacGyver1

ez cd creator trouble

Adaptec Easy CD Creator sucks!!! Use Nero Burning ROM and/or CDRWin. Those are the only ones I use. Did just get a copy of Cakewalk Pyro, it looks real nice for making audio CDs (usually use Nero). Later, MacGyver1

Wait for DDR MB or get KT7-RAID?

I am wondering the same thing. Will the DDR boards have clock multiplier adjustments like A7V and KT7? AMD is making it harder to adjust clock multiplier, so MB manufacturers might not support it anymore. With the price of PC133 RAM going up and DDR RAM going down, it might be wise to wait...

driver (or overheating?) woes

It's probably AGP settings. VIA chipsets and NVIDIA cards have AGP problems. Sometimes you have to set AGP to 1X, change AGP aperature size (64, 128, 256), and stuff to do with Fast Writes and Side Banding. Drivers also have something to do also. Is anything overclocked? That can make some...

How to remove the processor fan from a dell PIII 500 XPS T500

Most fans just screw off the heatsink. Four screws at the corners. You might have to remove the whole thing. Obviously, shut your computer down before you start. I know some people that didn't and you know what happens there. Later, MacGyver1

Maxtor H/D 7200 rpm. Probably bad combo with Asus P3V4X???.

I am using an ASUS P3V4X with a Maxtor 20 Gig 7200. It's on the Secondary IDE. I have an IBM Deskstar GXP 75 30 Gig 7200 for boot drive. I haven't had any trouble. I'm running a P3 FCPGA 600E@800 (6x133), with a Slocket, of course. I have the voltage at 1.75v. That's been the best for me...
