Need help deciding

OMG the power draw on 3x 480 - that's insane. Not that the other 2 are any better but max power draw with the cards alone would be about 750 watts. Like Charlie98 stated - you would likely get more clearcut input in the Video Card forum.

Essentially yes - what I suggested in the previous post would do it. Isolating the board from any power source (the PSU and battery), hold power button, and waiting about 30 seconds will normally clear up anything in the bios settings.

Is it worthwhile to make this a server?

I've given away several AMD dually systems the last year - they were working fine and had plenty of memory, but they were all 6-10 years old. I was going to use them for bench purposes but the noise alone made them impractical.

It's not that simple - the fan has to have the correct wires and sensor for the bios to acknowledge and control - especially with the 4 wire ones.

You can replace the fan with another 120mm fan but it has to have the 4 wire/ 5 pin dell connector. A generic fan will not work correctly and will give errors at system boot and may not even allow for system to boot beyond bios check if a fan is not detected. Try getting the Foxconn or...

Is it worthwhile to make this a server?

Sometimes free is good but in this case not so sure. I'm thinking warm and noisy between the processor coolers and the hard drives. Also not likely very efficient when it comes to energy management. Did you get just the board with nothing else - no processor or memory?

Is XP a bottleneck for a SSD?

The cards do exist but if memory serves me correct it PCIe X1 has at least 2 revs with with the speed doubling from ~250 to ~500 with the updated spec. Not sure about the rev on your board. The Samsung 830 is also in the size/speed range you mentioned and has the SSD Magician software.

Well that board does have an PCIe X1 connector so you may find it an SATA3 adapter that would maximize the speed capability of the SSD. Since it was one of the last Nforce/AMD boards it may not have proper trim support. Old thread but read here...

You will replace the drive before you wear it out. If you run something like SSD Tweaker free on XP it will help you get the most out of the drive without worrying about writes. It looks like this is within your price range...

XP will work fine as long as the drive/chipset work together and you're willing to do just a little more work to get the drive going correctly. Go with an Intel or Samsung based drive if you want the trim/optimizer like utility or a Toshiba Kingston V+ if you do a lot of reads/writes to the...

How are you clearing it - via jumper or switch? Try removing power cord and motherboard battery and hold the power switch in for at least 10 seconds. Is this happening at stock or overclock speeds?

Limited personal experience in live and testing - booting does not always guarantee alignment. Things like the tool(s) used (if it is AFD aware for example) and the original OS.

Is SSDLife software accurate/reliable?

I was going to post the similar experience. I purchased 2 brand new Samsung drives last year and SSDLife showed 77% health/Drive Health is EXCELLENT right from the start and subsequent updates show the same thing with the last update showing over 15000000000 GB written.:o
