I was wondering like in XP when there are several family members using one box load w/ XP Pro w/ their own profiles, how would I make applications like IM or computer games be available/used from one installation instead of separate installations for each user like it does for MS Office i think...
Ain't too newbie friendly as it is like most ppl to UNIX/LINUX i take it. Well, I finally figured how to connect to a hub and of course get kicked out frequently due to my infantile collection. The ones i've connected tho, I still trying to figure out the search feature since theres no button...
I have the 7004BR w/ the 1.90h firmware version and on the web configurator there's a link to Access Controls and at the top theres a check box to enable your own port settings and stuff which mine is unchecked. Not sure if the 7004ABR has something different if that's what you have.
I have the older barricade router, but I paid just as much as what the newer model normally costs. What sort of functions are in the newer model? If I hadn't bought it recently, i'd jump on this deal big time.
Have you made changes to the port settings or enabled the access control? Mine barricade is set to what is default and i'm able to play CS and DOD just fine.
This is a complete waste of time filling all those questionaires. Plus you need to have a business to able to even recieve these mags. I think it's another spamo email.
Well, i'm kinda relieved now that I have some protection now and can see what's been hitting my router w/ these logs and that they can't get in w/ that NAT feature. Thanks for the help.
I just obtained a SMC Barricade 4port router and couldn't make out the firewall setting instructions very well. Is there some default firewall settings to prevent snoops, hacks, etc. If not then what are the normal ports to allow and other to block on a SOHO setup?
Is RoadRunner one of the cable providers to let us use our own cable modem instead of renting theirs? I'd think this would be a good deal if that's the case.
True, i know there are hardware routers out there that are cheap and affordable, but I'm unemployed and spent plenty of money and running a big CC balance on other stuff thanks to the Anand effect already. I have copies of all the common OSes, but haven't done the research as to which to use...
I'm still considering whether to get a hardware router(possibly wireless), but it wouldn't serve my need as a file/MS app/game server at the same time. I'm leaning to setup up a W2K adv server, so that way I have something more to learn and since I got 2 out of 5 systems in my house just...
I just got cable and wondering what OS I can use as a file server/firewall/router since getting an actual router is not cost effective right now. Preferably any MS OS, if not, can Linux do this job?
does this have built in firewall support and acts like a router? Anyone know whether RoadRunner will let us return the modem if we get our own cable modem?
Just a followup, the My Computer/Properties/Advanced Tab, did the trick, quick and easy. It appears that editting the boot.ini so that default=C:\ all that it needed, just trying to play it safe and use the XP GUI property since I'm still a novice w/ XP.
Houston Fry's has it for $89 after $50rebate. I'm gonna go pick one up, but after I get it , probably see another hardware drop in price like back when SDRAM memory kept flip flopping.
I have dual boot 98se and XP Pro setup on their respective partitions. However since the installation, the XP boot selection has it set as the default. Does XP have that feature to edit the boot up selection, or is there some way to manually edit some boot file for the boot screen? So that...
I have a old SCSI seagate 9GB HD that takes up 2 bays, but it has some corruption on various sectors but probably still have 75% of it still good but i'm unable to format since most of the corruption is as the beginning of the HD. Is there anyway to have NT4.0, W2K, or XP fix those bad sectors...
Thanks, I didn't even realize that I coulda checked VIA site, or know where to look since I've been looking at Soyo's site mostly. I forgot to make a 98boot disk b/f I installed xp, but maybe if I find the right drivers I won't have to uninstall, but it's good to know of the sys c:. I must be...
It seems my soyo 7vda mobo may not be compatible w/ the XP since the onboard sound doesn't have drivers for it yet. I'm dual booting w/ 98se. Or could I chunk the xp partition and install w2k in it's place? I guessing i'm gonna install xp on another system.
Anyone have/had a Diamond Supra Express External Serial modem before. How did you feel about these, any difficulty installing or maintaining a connection? Mine seems to drop connectivity after handshaking saying that it's unable to get a response from remote server, even after trying to...
Yeah, I had the internal shotgun modem card it was great too except couldn't take advantage of it and the ISA card was crammed up against my mobo's pwr/reset pins. I was think about USB but then decided to get the serial connector and wondering now if there were issues w/ them w/ the current...
For those that used the Diamond Supra Express External Serial 56K modem, what kind of experience did you have with them? Difficulty in installing and/or connectivity? Unfortunately, my area neglected to provided any type of broadband service. So i'm upgrading from my US Robotics 56K due to my...
The BE6 vII is a very good stable board for o/c, but the problem that will likely to occur would be the 440BX AGP divider will come under some stress over 100FSB, but the 1Mhz increments gives more flexibility than any other Slot 1 mobo i've tried or heard.
You should try an old Abit BE6 v II b/c it gives you incremental bus speed manipulation and it supports up to 10.5x mulitipler on the P3's, just update the BIOS to get the new multiplier. It should be cheap and it's a stable slot 1 board now, since they don't make them BX boards anymore. No on...
I was preparing a 2nd HD to be installed in a 2nd system i'm building. Being careless as I am, I unwittingly chunked only the autocfg, config.sys, etc. off my 1st system's C: which is probaby in my recycle bin, but I can't seem to locate it in DOS. Plus I ddin't make the boot floppy which I...
I got my $40 rebate from Phillips a few weeks ago just fine, w/o having to contact them. However, Staples botched my $30 instant rebate deal which I think is the only difference that ya'll might not have recieved it yet assuming the form was filled out correctly.
I got my Geforce 256 DDR 32MB RAM card but when I installed it into my Abit BE6 II and Soyo 6VBA 133 mobo, I only get 16MB to show up during boot up and also in the displayer driver settings? I'm starting to get fed up w/ Compgeeks service which presumably think i'm wrong in my conclusions...
It appears to be to be a single sided DIMM, but I wasn't aware of that being an issue. I'm not sure if BX has MB/stick limit but the manual says it supports up to 256MB per slot. How about the new VIA Apollo 133 chipset, anyone? I'll try it tommorrow after getting off of work, but I'd be...
I ordered the PC133 256MB ram thru the Dell deals, but when I plugged them into my Abit BE6v2 board with the BX chipset it only picks up 128MB of it. Anyone else who ordered their these RAMs via Dell or have these Kingston ValueRAM, did you'll have similar issues? Does anyone know if these...
Sprint PCS suxs, as well as Best Buy's bullshit. Sprint PCS was the only cellular that went out for 3 days during the Houston flood when it was most needed in an emergency, and they frequently go of out service, or drop calls from time to time. I was suppose to get $100 rebate check from them...
