Dirt 3 will be one of the best racing games in 2011. But, if you like racing, you should also try Need for Speed series, especially Need for Speed: Shift and Shift 2 Unleashed (upcoming). I think NFS Shift 2 Unleashed will be a tough rival for Dirt 3.

Upgrading from 8800GT?

The best 100 PC games of all time.

Very nice, it's all very appropriate choice. And in my opinion, GTA: San Andreas should also be there. In addition to Football Manager 2011, should also have FIFA 11 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, in my opinion.

Building a gaming PC now, good or bad idea?

Of course, building a gaming PC is a good idea, and $1,200 is enough to make a gaming system. If you want to play the latest games (2009-2011), at least you need a dual core processor, 3-4 GB of RAM, and GeForce 9800 GT or GeForce GTS 250 (minimum choice).
