Yes, I purchased one in December when the AR price was $299 - No word on the rebate yet. Mine had 3 bad pixel elements and was RMA'd for a defect free unit, which took the aforementioned 5 weeks. I'm not a gamer so can't rate gaming performance but for general use it's a nice display.

It does have DVI. Reasonable if a bit slow RMA process if you receive a defective unit (5 weeks to RMA) Display is excellent! Rebate processing very slow... 7 weeks and no signe of my rebate being "received" or "in-process" ... I'm trying to remain calm.. patience is a virtue.

Mostly, it will depend on your motherboard type. You didn't say what you have.... I'm running an ABIT BX6R2 which officially supports up to a PIII-700 and mine (like others) is happily running a PIII-800 @ 936MHZ.

I don't think there's another QR bios, I was going from the notes on the QR and previous versions (and I recall that there was a 9.5 setting in my softbios (was I wrong?). In any case, if it's working in the user defined set-up all should be well. That's how I've had to use my PIII-800E and...

How do I connect the heatsink to a retail P3?

Better to ask than chance damaging your new cpu by installing it incorrectly. The "white" area on the heatsink is the thermal pad that Intel supplies. It probably has a piece of waxed paper covering it to protect the surface that will be in contact with your chip when it's installed...

OK, I guess I wasn't clear on the "user defined" settings in the bios. When you set the user defined settings for the PIII 800, 850 or 900 you save it as usual. It's stored in the CMOS. You do NOT need to set it each time you boot. The bios does recognize a PIII but does not...

from what you describe, there may be an error in the .bat file that's on the floppy. Usually the command in the .bat file will be something like "awdflash.exe newbios.bin" where newbios.bin is the name of the bios file. The bootable floppy needs to contain DOS, an autoexec.bat...

All of the PIII-XXXe chips (note the E) are 100MHZ FSB. It's a straight 100 MHZ X multiplier for the operating frequency. An 800E has an 8X multiplier, 850(E) is 8.5X and the 900(E) uses 9X the FSB for a grand total of 900MHZ. The multiplier on Intel processors is locked so your motherboard...

The 800e is a 100MHZ fsb device so it's all running defaults on the BX6r2. Unfortunately, ABIT did not include the identifier for PIII's above 700MHZ in the Bios so it doesn't autodetect correctly - User defined settings to 100MHZ FSB and the multiplier of 8 works great. Also see post above...

Why do I get lower 3dMark Score when I break 800 on PIII

I've seen similar performance hits when running at around 1 GHZ or higher with my PIII-800. Generally I've attributed it to errors in the cache which slowed things down while the error-correction did its thing. At 935 everything is fast and no unexpected slow-downs.

It sounds like your fan is out of balance. Check for damage to the fan blades or some heatsink compound that might have gotten on a blade. Normally the fans do not vibrate to an extent that you could notice.
