AMD rumored to release Radeon RX 500X series in Q3 2018

I'm not necessarily against the idea of them releasing Polaris again in some form, but I don't think bumping the clocks 5% is going to cut it. If they released Polaris on a smaller process (12nm? *I know it's mostly just marketing) with GDDR6? Not even sure how bandwidth starved Polaris was...

    Ethereum GPU mining?

I'm actually kind of hoping the prices dip lower and retreat for awhile, as an opportunity for others to invest and for the GPU market prices to recover to normal levels.

"GPU Multitasking" in the modern era, vendor relative ability

I don't mine on Nicehash, I just use Claymore miner and mine ethereum with a GTX 1080. I found that I had this mouse lag and video lag as well, and when I changed the intensity to 1, which is -ethi 1 in the config, the mouse lag went away and there was only a minor performance hit (from 25Mh's...

    Ethereum GPU mining?

This is true, but difficulty has also gone up pretty dramatically since July hasn't it? I've also been seeing RX 470's and GTX 1060's in stock and much closer to MSRP than ever before. I feel like the last few months miners have been holding out that the price would remain high or would rebound...

Hope the difficulty increases and the decreased value of Eth brings some sanity back to the GPU market in terms of pricing/availability. This has been a long time coming.

    Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

I'm confused as to why they decided to half the size of the memory bus on Vega compared to Fury? From the sounds of it this thing is still going to draw power like crazy so it doesn't seem like there was any huge power savings there. I guess using HBM2 offset the reduced bandwidth but I still...

    Ethereum GPU mining?

Honestly, further price drops would probably be healthy not only to slow the insane difficulty jumps but also to cool down the crazy price jumps on GPU's and lack of inventory. I think the mining craze has really hurt availability/prices for gamers.

    Ethereum GPU mining?

Yeah, the much wider bus is probably the difference. I'll probably just mine Zcash instead, though it does seem like a pain to have to worry about exchanging it all the time for Ethereum. What's the best mining program these days for mining Zcash on NVIDIA cards? Thanks :)

    Ethereum GPU mining?

No, I've just got a pretty standard GTX 1080 windforce. I did read this on the claymore thread so it seems to be a common issue. I doubt I would get much higher than 5500mhz anyway, but 5600 or 5700 might be possible. I know the 1080 isn't great for mining, but I don't understand why the 1080...

    Ethereum GPU mining?

Yeah I just tried eVGA precision and I'm still getting the same weird behavior, if I don't have Claymore running, the clock speed of the memory jumps to 6000mhz (or whatever I set it to) if I apply the overclock in the software, but as soon as I fire up Claymore and start mining, the clockspeed...

    Ethereum GPU mining?

I've got my 1080 overclocked and it seems to cap out at 5500mhz memory clock while mining. I've got the memory slider completely maxed and while gaming it will run at 6000mhz (which is unstable) but during mining it drops back down to 5500 and stays there, any idea how I can bump it up a bit...

    Ethereum GPU mining?

What kind of hash rates do the 1060's pull with overclocked memory in Zcash? If I have a 1080 as my primary GPU in my main rig, could I buy an extra 1060 and install it as a secondary card and have it mining all the time in the background?
  13. S

    Ethereum GPU mining?

Obviously Eth/Zcash are pretty popular at the moment, but is there any hype building around some newer crypto currencies that haven't been around as long? Anything else worth a look basically?

Polaris Refresh (RX 500 Series) Rumors

50mhz core clock bump :/ This is easily within range of where people were overclocking 470's so I find it very unimpressive :( I get it though, AMD wants a full "new" product stack for when Vega launches, but I wish these cards were more than a simple clockspeed bump. It definitely felt more...

EVGA 1080 FTW - System suddenly powering off with mild overclock

So, I was actually able to replicate the behavior of the system powering off even while the card was technically at "stock" clocks. I set the switch to the alternate bios on the card, which unlocks the "130%" power profile, and I enabled 130% power target in EVGA precision, but left core clock...

Nvidia Just Released a New Card: Titan Xp -- Full 3840 Cuda Cores Chip for $1200 --Yes for Real!

I don't think the criticism is "just" because they are successful. I think it's fine to acknowledge that they make good products but also criticize practices which really aren't good for the consumer or their loyal customers.

Nvidia Just Released a New Card: Titan Xp -- Full 3840 Cuda Cores Chip for $1200 --Yes for Real!

I actually agree with Jays2cents on this one, not only is the naming, marketing, etc confusing with this launch, but on top of that the Titan XP owners have to deal with the fact that the Ti launches with equal or greater performance than their $1200 card, but now they launch the "real" fully...

EVGA 1080 FTW - System suddenly powering off with mild overclock

Yeah, I don't expect any miracles and I would be fine with the idea that the GPU doesn't like the overclock. My concern is trying to figure out of that's actually what's going here - that the system is shutting down because the GPU is hitting a wall or if something is going on with the PSU...

EVGA 1080 FTW - System suddenly powering off with mild overclock

EVGA has a serial number checker on their website and it lists the card as having the new bios with the increased fan curve as well as the thermal pads installed. But I just wasn't sure if there could still be an issue there when overclocking.

EVGA 1080 FTW - System suddenly powering off with mild overclock

I haven't seen the issue with stock settings. I know it's already a fairly overclocked card at stock, but that behavior of a complete shut down / power off seems really odd. Is that normal? Like I said, I can completely back the settings off, but 120% power limit on this GPU still doesn't seem...

EVGA 1080 FTW - System suddenly powering off with mild overclock

Hey guys, I just picked up an EVGA 1080 FTW about a week ago to replace my R9 290. The card works perfectly 99% of the time, but I've had 3 times now when the system has just completed powered off, and started itself back up a few seconds later while gaming for about an hour+ while the card was...

Polaris Refresh (RX 500 Series) Rumors

I don't know what AMD could really do to sell people on Polaris rebrands in way that would wouldn't seem sort of misleading. Polaris wasn't launched that long ago, so bumping the clock speed slightly and adding an 8 pin connector doesn't seem like a massive change. There were some small...

ASUS announces GeForce GTX 1080 11Gbps and 1060 9Gbps models

There are links all over right now talking about the 570/580 rebrands. No official announcement yet, so if 570/580 turn out to be more than just the 470/480 with slight overclocks I will be pleasantly surprised :) https://videocardz.com/67693/amd-radeon-rx-570-and-580-exposed

ASUS announces GeForce GTX 1080 11Gbps and 1060 9Gbps models

With the 1060 already having a slight edge on the 480, I think the 1060 with faster memory is only going to pull away even more from the soon to be announced RX 580 with only a slight core overclock (unless there's another difference/change that I'm unaware of). Disappointed to see AMD...

    Ethereum GPU mining?

So I haven't mined Eth for a long time but decided to mine for a bit on my R9 290. When I fired up my miner, I'm getting really low hashrates compared to before, something like 15-16 MH's when I used to get closer to 30. Is this because of the new DAG size or is there another reason for this...

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

That's what I was thinking as well. It's pretty frustrating the amount of times I've read people defending the fact that NVIDIA removed SLI support because "MULTI GPU SUCKS!" and "Why not just get 1070 then!?". I don't see how taking away the option of SLI can ever be a positive, even if you...

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

Biggest factor I think is going to be how quickly the 1060 is actually available at its MSRP. It will also be interesting to see how the aftermarket 480's compare to the aftermarket 1060's. Once the gloves are off and we have better coolers, better power delivery, factory overclocked cards, what...

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

I don't think any sites should be reporting a price of $249 until we actually see cards there. How many 1070's/1080's can be had for the MSRP? This founders edition pricing on a midrange card is pretty lame. It was even a stretch on the previous two, but you could see how they could get away...

The 480: power consumption, PCI-E powerdraw

Well, I had a feeling that we were going to be saying it but: They really should have had aftermarket cards available from the get go. If there was anything I thought AMD learned from the R9 200 series launch was that it would probably be better to let your board partners to do the heavy...

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

The specs suggest that it could match the 980, but historically this part hasn't matched that level of performance from the previous gen. (See the 760 and the 960 compared to the 680 and 780). However, this is a node change so bigger gains are to be expected. My guess is that it will trade blows...
