  1. Question Finding PSU's in stock ... anywhere!

Tell me about it! I'm just happy to have found something semi decent in stock. The RM850 is going for like 139.99 right now
  2. Anandtech Member Case Gallery!

Hi all! Here's my super humble budget rig I just completed. Ryzen 3 3200G Asus Prime B450M-A/CSM 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4-2800 Asus Strix GTX 970 Adata 240GB SSD Corsair CX650M Silverstone PS-14B-EG
  3. Question Finding PSU's in stock ... anywhere!

Built a new rig recently. Literally no decent PSUs in stock at the time, so I went w/ a Thermaltake Smart 500w. Ran fine... until I installed a dedicated GPU in my Ryzen 3 3200G rig (GTX 970), then it wouldn't even make it to Windows before BSODing. Turns out it was that crappy Thermaltake PSU...
  4. Question Asrock B450M Pro4 Sleep and Forget BIOS settings, really?

as long as everything works perfectly fine on sata ports other than 2 i would definitely conclude you likely have a dead sata port.
  5. News The Exciting Future of AMD Socket AM4

I have an Asus Prime B450M-A/CSM, which isn't even a high end board but has 128 MB flash ROM listed in the specs. Hoping there'll be eventual support for 4xxx series on it.
  6. Use motherboard audio or USB sound card included w/ Plantronics GameCom Commander?

Thanks for the reply, I've tried both, just wondering which is "recommended".
  7. Use motherboard audio or USB sound card included w/ Plantronics GameCom Commander?

Greetings all! I picked up the Plantronics Gamecom Commander for a steal ($69.99) through Newegg's Shell Shocker sale. I have an Asus Maximus VI Hero motherboard, which has the Realtek ALC1150 sound chip. The headset comes included with a USB sound card that supports Dolby surround. Is it...
  8. When are "mining inflated" prices going to drop?

It's amazing how much prices have increased. I bought my Asus 7970 DirectCU II when they were being discontinued to make way for the R9 280X and paid $260 after rebate. The Asus R9 280X is going for $420! Even used Asus 7970 DCII's are going for $300+ on eBay...
  9. 290 Crossfire Vs. 780 SLI Vs. 780Ti

Reference GTX 780 SLI sounds appropriate in your situation. 780 Ti is just too expensive.
  10. [Videocards][Rumor] New king coming soon - GTX 780 TI 3DMark score revealed

Should be a sweet card, but man $650 is a lot for a GPU (from my perspective). Even $550 for the 290X is out of my price range unfortunately. $300 to $400 is what I like to spend.
  11. R9 290X - A Card AIBs Will Love?

Glad I picked up the Asus 7970 DirectCU II for $268 w/ 3 free games while I could. The performance of the 290X is nice, but wayyy too loud/hot/power hungry for me personally.
  12. Any chance we'll see 760's get lower than $249?

I highly doubt NV will drop the prices on the 760/770, which is unfortunate. No way I would pay $400 for a card with 2GB of VRAM, and the 4GB GTX 770 is $450 which is just stupid for price/performance. 280X is where it's at for price/performance right now.
  13. What is up with evga z87 motherboards

I'd recommend sticking with Asus or MSI.
  14. ASUS Z87 motherboards

I absolutely love my Maximum VI Hero. No issues, worked out of the box. Great layout, very well done UEFI, decent software (AI Suite), extremely high quality power delivery components, built to last. Probably the most important thing for me is the enhancements to the audio over Asus' "channel"...
  15. Geforce GTX 780 Ti unveiled

I love GPU wars, it's so much fun! The rumors, announcements, counter announcements. It's the best form of drama to me. Though I'm not necessarily in the market for one of these high end $650+ cards =(
  16. The trap

So far I've avoided falling into this trap. See my rig in my sig below? I just got this a matter of months ago. Want to know my previous rig? Core 2 Duo E6400, 4 GB DDR2 RAM and a 9800 GTX. The only reason I upgraded is because my old rig was starting to randomly crash (motherboard I think was...
  17. What do you guys think of this for a gaming setup

Nice choices overall, I'd only change a few things. 1) Save a bit of cash and go with the Maximus VI Hero motherboard. 2) Get a Seasonic Platinum 860w/1000w instead of that Thermaltake PSU. Another fine choice is the Cooler Master V850 or V1000, they're just rebranded Seasonic PSUs. Check the...
  18. Qnix 2710 lightbleed

Wow that's bad, sorry you got stuck with a panel like that. These kind of QC issues with cheap panels is the reason I stick with NEC monitors. NEC sells discounted refurbished monitors on their website, and there's also a website called edexdeals.com that sells NEC refurbs (I believe they're the...
  19. GTX 690 vs. Radeon 7990

No issues to speak of besides poor Crossfire scaling in some instances (which drivers can and will improve over time) and lots of reports of coil whine. I believe since the 7970 GHz Edition was getting beat by the GTX Titan/780, AMD wanted to be able to say they had the fastest single card...
  20. Help on overclocking a Sapphire 7970 OC w/boost

I believe that VDDC is separate from the GPU voltage. I think VDDC is the memory voltage or something. Go into the settings of the overclocking utility you're using at see if there's a setting that will show the GPU's core voltage.
  21. GTX 690 vs. Radeon 7990

I personally would get the 7990. I think 2GB of VRAM for a card typically used to game at resolutions higher than 1080p is an issue.
  22. R9 290 series specifications

Can't wait to see the final pricing for these cards. Hopefully this will shake up the market a bit. Right now the only truly good bang/buck is the 7950/7970. The R9 280X (7970) I believe will be $299 which just makes the GTX 770 (especially the 4GB models) look bad. Will be interesting to see...
  23. Any tips for switching from NVidia to Radeon?

I just switched from a GTX 770 to 7970 (the 770 had incessant coil whine). All I had to do was uninstall all the Nvidia stuff from add/remove programs, shut down my PC. Swapped in AMD card, powered PC on, installed AMD driver and all good to go. Only thing is I'd recommend to set windows update...
  24. [WCCFTech] 290X Specs Confirmed and Benched

Extremely glad I snagged my Asus 7970 for $268. Have it clocked at GHz Edition speeds and score 7600 on Firestrike. The extra performance just isn't worth the $ to me.
  25. Radeon R9 290X Priced at $730 at Newegg

Makes sense I guess if it beats the GTX 780. Really glad I snapped up my Asus 7970 for $268.
  26. 7990 xfire or 780SLI

The 7990 is a beast, that's for sure. The only thing that held me back from getting it versus a single 7970 was the noise levels. I really really value a quiet PC, and I watched some YouTube video comparisons of fan noise and when the 7990 ramps up it gets quite loud. Went with an Asus 7970...
  27. [GPU.RU]Battlefield 4 Beta Bench

Runs pretty smoothly for me. Tried it out on my new Asus HD 7970 DirectCU II (1050/6000, GHz Edition clock speeds) and ran smoothly at 1200p/ultra settings. Had FRAPS running and mostly stayed at a 50-80 fps. Haven't tried the latest beta driver, this was on the 13.9 WHQL driver. Not as smooth...
  28. AMD Radeon R9 290X Battlefield 4 Edition – 8,000 and "No Specs" For Pre-Order

Seems like Hawaii should be pretty fast cards, but I personally wouldn't buy a card without seeing reviews. I'm especially interested in how quiet AMD's blower cooler is compared to NVIDIA's blower cooler used on the GTX 7xx series. The aesthetic on the new reference AMD cards does look pretty...
  29. AMD price cuts

I snapped up an Asus 7970 DirectCU II. Was 309.99, $20 rebate, free shipping, and also had a special 7% off coupon code which was really nice. Final price $268 and change. Pretty good deal I think. Heard it might be voltage locked, but I only want to crank it up to GHz edition speeds. I don't...
  30. Radeon R9 290X non reference when?

I hope there's not a supply shortage. I would have thought since the 28nm process is relatively mature they wouldn't have too many issues. Time will tell!
  31. Quietest and Coolest 7970s

As long as the motherboard and case can fit them (they're triple slot cards), I can vouch for Asus' DirectCU II cooler being both effective AND very quiet. I have one on order that should arrive early next week so I'll update with my impressions. However if it's anything like my Asus GTX 770...
  32. New GPU - Ever see such terrible soldering? HIS IceQ 7950

I've seen that white stuff on cards before (though not that bad), but never anything like what's going on with that solder. I'd test it, see how it overclocks and if there's any coil whine. If you got a good card and the solder doesn't bother you, keep it. Otherwise, return it. That said, me...
  33. Large budget - late October build recc.

SLI GTX 770 4GB would do you well for around $900 USD
  34. WHich 760GTX to get Asus vs EVGA?

I'd go with Asus. I had an Asus GTX 770 2 GB which I stupidly swapped for the Gigabyte GTX 770 4 GB model because I only upgrade every 3 to 5 years so I wanted to "future proof" a bit more by going with 4 GB of VRAM. The Asus was perfect. The Gigabyte had bad coil whine. I exchanged with the...
  35. Benchmark nvidia 770...

Your results are perfectly normal. The 770 that scored 1108 was clocked VERY high.
  36. MSI GTX 770 Lightning temps

That's a significantly higher boost clock. Temperatures seem normal to me.
  37. Need advice!!! Good air cooler for Intel 4670k?

Almost forgot, if you want to spend a bit more money and go for the quietest cooler around, there is the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2 cooler. It's extremely quiet but pricey.
  38. Need advice!!! Good air cooler for Intel 4670k?

I recently purchased the Phanteks PH-TC12DX cooler for my new i7 4770K system build. Granted I'm not an extreme overclocker, if I was I would have gone with a bigger cooler. One thing I like about the Phanteks is how quiet it is. It also comes in a variety of colors to suit your individual...
  39. AMD 7970 v Nvidia GTX 770

Do you mean a non-GHz edition 7970? All the GHz edition 7970s I see are north of $400.
  40. AMD 7970 v Nvidia GTX 770

The Sapphire 7970 GHz edition deal is over at newegg, is back up to $459.99 ($439.99 after $20 rebate). That kinda sucks because that was a really good deal for those looking for a 7970 GHz edition.
