Obviously you won't ever get it but w/e - I tell you the missing part is the human element, and you give me a quote that contains nothing about that - why ? 1. Partial models of engines are far more complete and no they aren't done without knowing and accounting for the laws of physics...

Capitalism is a concept, and like all concepts the implementation will differ from the concept, that much is clear to everyone who understands both concepts :biggrin: (you know, concept and implementation). Such a simplistic approach to commercial interactions doesn't have any chance to work...

No . TRIM is an instruction sent by the os to the drive controller for OS-managed GC. Drive-managed GC doesn't require TRIM or support for TRIM even if it is quite clear that the controller must have understanding of the filesystem in order to decide which blocks are to be cleaned.

As i said , the drive sucks ^^ But still for a home-made box, considering how people like using Intel stuff only, running my own software RAID10 across these 4 Intel drives through a PCIe interface is an interesting option. Also wtf. trim command in 2012 ? do we really need that when garbage...

It is indeed a piece of crap, but it's the first Intel pciE SSD and as some only buy Intel, a very good product to sell. On the other hand, I believe the non-raid0 approach can be interesting, enabling you to make more sensible raid configurations w/ the ssds - rather than the usual 4x raid0 /...

Washed Mobo and Video Card

Hopefully there will be much better solutions than the SA at that point in time ... a heatsink that kills so many RAM slots is more a pain than a solution imho -- The current trend of tower-rad needs to die sometime soon tbh.

True .. but still the hard part in Trinity was the naming .. the release should be doable w/ 3 months late bulldozer-type fail release schedule. Let's face it, replacing the athlon with bulldozer and the 6550d with the next ATI chip -- doesn't look like many ways to fail in there.

You seem to misunderstand one fundamental aspect of the market : Mostly everyone is not like you. People play on crappy consoles that are almost as powerful as the e350 Zacate. Not everyone finds it fun to spend 600+ bucks on a PC. The APU / SoC approach is leading all the handheld/tablet...

The i5 2500 Retail HSF... How Cool and Quiet is it?

There's only one good reason to change the stock HSF on a non-oc'd computer, and that would be silence, provided you already have a silent gfx tho ... Still if you're not going to OC it it's probably way overpowered already ;)

There is no OC without voltage tweak . except very minor ones. AS IDC said, give us more details .. as in what FSB you're at etc... you could be FSB locked for all we know ...

Core I5 2500k Temperatures

Motherboards flex :p we got backplates for a reason ;) All processors are not equal, that stock fan is really awful .. I'd say 73-75 in 10 minutes prime is "likely" . If you want it to be better, you can either just reseat it, or remove all the intel-disgusting-thermal-goo and put real thermal...

2600K @ 5GHZ, How common is it really???

Every single 2500k or 2600k chip can do 5Ghz, very few of them need 'dangerous' voltage to do it, and very few of them can do this on air while remaining under 70°C. Last 2500k stable OC I had in my hands was 4.9 @ 1.3911 vCore or something like that .. temperature wall more than anything...

Outside of H50 - type stuff I don't know where you'll find "small" and "performance" in the same product tbh . Even if there is some Noctua stuff .. which is anyway so expensive it's not interesting.

This is really ... not up to date. SSD's are ready for enterprise-level requirements provided your ssd configuration is ready, i.e. if you have a raid10 of Intel 510 SSD's you'll be at least as safe as with current 15krpm drives- which are considered enteprise-grade. We're in 2011, it's time...

And that is why, next time, you follow the normal troubleshooting guide : a) linux-key for all that is software b) swap gfx w/ another rig for all that is video c) memtest for the ram d) if you really need to check cpu / mobo ... hope you got two of the same gen ^^ - ask a friend for his cpu...

Again this is CLEARLY misinformed. Without any overclocking, you're looking at 200+200+90+ system power which is more than 550 total on spikes (take into account hdd spikes, RAM, fans and you're in for a psu overload). IF any overclocking, 600W is fine for the i5 and an unlocked / oc'd 6950...

Would this proposed gaming rig be too lopsided?

CPU looks a bit on the cheap side, that's a good choice I think .. however, if you're going to pay so much for the cpu/mobo, why not consider a cheaper alternative, like the phenom you're citing ? Also SSD on a cheapo config .? I doubt it's worth it tbh.

You sir iz talking about a benchmark that is CPU only. I played all brutal SC2 campaign without a hint of lag. I played some 4v4 and a f*ton of 2v2 and 1v1 league matches without a hint of lag. I do have a bit of lag when the game goes over 1000+ units in "zone control 1.0" or "marine arena...

New build - making sure I didn't miss anything

Careful about the PSU, if you go into overclocking, 750W will NOT cut it imho. With two GTX570's, you can easily go beyond 600W OC'd, add in 180+ for the i5 and boom no more psu. however, if you don't OC your gfx and keep your i5 under 4.5 ghz .. fat chance you won't need another PSU. Also...

Some help for a computer build for a customer of mine.

Let him claim away then :p No kidding, check out a review about these in order to really help your client ;) Also, if GPU is useful, rearrange the config for a simple quad SLI 580 on a good quad board, or find something else, because dual CPU sounds massively useless for your business case.

This is way overkill, from your requirements I derive that any crapbox with a few hdd's will do the job, so why not take that approach, go for any durable mobo, an i7 2600k (overkill), 16G of DDR3-1600 (overkill) and then a decent raid array, backed by one of those fancy z68-mlc speedups. When...
