Could need some help out of a jam. Basically want to give a CDR with a virus scan on it to someone so they can run a scan on their system (idiot who got a virus) without having to install it like what you have to do with Norton or McAffee.
If anyone also knows of a bootable virus scan app, that...
System Commander 7 works like a charm and even has a custom MBR for you. I have nothing but good things to say about it.
Check it out at http://www.v-com.com/product/sc7_ind.html
When I was watching the NBA Finals tonight, I seemed to be getting all these Apple ads with people talking about how they "escaped Windows and got a computer that actually worked" with links to their http://www.apple.com/switch/ website.
Is there anyone else out there that thinks these are...
Under a network of mine, I have a Windows 2000 machine which talks to a Mac OS X Server box (via Samba) with Print services running on it. Basically, it serves a cerntralized location for files, printing, and web site testing for both the Windows and Mac machines here.
But here is my issue.. I...
What's up guys? Seeing that Red Hat has been out for like a month or so, would you guys recommend it over Mandrake 8.2 for a standard consumer? I know in the past that Mandrake has been good for ease of use and customer accesbility and Red Hat has generally leaned towards businesses.
Any...
Last night I formatted my month or so old HP Pavillion laptop (which came with XP Home) and put on Linux Mandrake 8.2. Since both the OS and my laptop are pretty new, it was able to reconize my hardware except two things. My IEEE 1394 Firewire card and a PCMIA 802.11 Wireless Notebook card from...
Sup all. Recently I installed a fresh copy of Linux Mandrake 8.2 on a few month old HP Pavillion laptop and when the operating system finishes loading I get this error message in regard to my battery monitor:
"Error querying battery charge. Make sure your kernel was built with APM support"...
I was reading on a few sites like MSNBC about a Linux distro named Lycoris from http://www.lycoris.com and it seems to have basically everything a standard Linux distro has with some XP GUI added into it. Have any of you tried this? I still use Mandrake 8.2 and want to know if this is worth my...
I don't think so. I was reading somewhere that USB 2.0 support is only currently planned for Windows XP. I may be wrong, but thats what Microsoft says is the OS they will be supporting it on.
Hey whats up guys? I have a quick question in regard to a wireless network. Currently in my office I have one of those nifty Airport stations. The Powerbook G4 machines are able to see and connect to it without a hitch as planned. Recently I got a Windows XP laptop and was pondering about...
thanks! my email is tegskywalker@hotmail.com if you want to help me out :)
If you throw in that "uber" floppy image in a zip or rar file that would be great dude. Whatever is the best one you have
OSX is a great OS. Yes I know that it is "Mac only" but it is truely a sight. Not only is it a BSD core but the GUI is tops. Not even XP can come close to that wonder :)
Hey whats up everybody? Recently a friend of mine asked me to make a Windows 95 boot floppy for him and I have been running into a few snags. First of all, I have the original licensed Win95 CD, but I lost my floppy when I moved. Second of all, I am currently running Windows 2000 so I can't make...
I prefer NTFS for Windows 2000 and Windows XP. In my opinion, go for NTFS.
You can always read the pros and cons of both formats by going to like microsoft.com :)
If I were you, I wouldn't install XP. Stick for 2k now because XP is Windows 2000 with a stupid interface and .NET integration. Plus, you dont have to hassle with Product Activation. As for office formats, Word 2002 (XP) can open files saved in Word 97, 2000, 2002 and even Mac versions of Office...
I was reading a news bit over at http://zdnet.com.com/2110-1104-828091.html about recently released USB 2.0 drivers for Windows XP.
Does anybody know if Microsoft has or will release 2.0 drivers for Windows 2000 PRO? If they have ALREADY let me know. Just don't flame me for not knowing ;)
I was browsing the Mandrake Linux page and saw at http://www.linux-mandrake.com/screenshots/81snap18nov.png that some person had both the OSX versions of Internet Explorer 5.0 and Sherlock running in Mandrake Linux 8.1.
Does that mean if I rip the IE folder from OSX, zip it up, and place it in...
I always knew bundling both Internet Explorer into the OS kernel and as a web browser was going to be a big problem since they started integrating it in Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 4.0.
I don't use IE anymore. Mainly just Opera 6 (stellar browser) and sometimes Netscape 6.2.
Btw.. all of...
are you sure you got WMP8 to play AVI files.. there shoudl be something in Options.
Also, you may want to grab the latest DivX codec (dont need Playa) from DivX.com
ST4RCUTTER, I got that EXACT error too when I went into the WindowsUpdate section for Windows 2000. I just ended up going to http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/default.asp and downloaded the update EXEs to my hard drive and running manually.
Yes it does suck and is time consuming...
Hehe.. a few days after release and people are demanding a SP1.. crazy Microsoft.
Btw.. if anybody knows when SP3 for Windows 2000 comes out or if it will, be sure to reply to this post. :D
This is all I got to say:

Its a good thing I still have my Win2k CD. I seriously pity anybody that buys XP and selilng their soul to this sort of crap. I hate you Microsoft.
Ok here I go. I am not a server admin at all, but want to learn more about it. Right now, im running an OSX webserver and have Apache, PHP, and MySQL running fine. My problem is setting the home directories for when I login to the server remotly via FTP.
When I put in the IP address of the...
<< Why is it no-one can seem to argue the merits of the OS of their choice without bashing the competition?
If it is really that good, just tell me how and why you think it is really that good. Trying to convince me that
what I am running now is crap, when it works just fine for me, only...

If you haven't had the chance to *really* use 10.1 yet, I highly recommend it. People that I personally know, life long PC users who swore they would never touch an Apple have purchased G4 towers, iMacs, iBooks, and TiBooks for this OS and are more than pleased with it. Some of these...
<< I won't buy a machine I can't build.. Plain and simple.
Till OSX or anything else from mac-land works on a x86, or you can start building Mac components from scratch, forget it. >>
Well if Apple let you customize your Mac if you had one, would you consider buying it? I agree with you on...
I know there's always the heated Mac vs PC debate that exists in the corporate and personal worlds.. and that Linux is trying to get beyond the hardcore niche market.. but if anybody has seen a really cool new OS lately, it has to be the Mac OSX 10.1. I dunno.. just has a "hip" feel to it. Not...
<< well, do you care about saving your data or not? can you back it up? >>
Backup the current stuff on my drive before splitting the disk? Yes that's possible.
I currently have a 60 GB hard drive running Win98 and was thinking of splitting up the disk space and creating a seperate, 20 GB partition (with an assigned drive letter like D: for example) where I would store important files, documents, and so on. The first 40 GB partition would remain my main...
Recently I tried WinXP PRO on one of my partitions and am using the drivers that came with XP for my Voodoo 3 3000 video card and had the latest WickedGL installed for Half-Life.
It seems every time I run the game, I get a "OpenGL mode not supported by your video card" error which is odd...
I would just say back up your stuff on CDRs or ZIP disks or something (like drivers, programs, etc) and wipe the hard drive totally clean. Ya know.. go into FDISK and remove the NTFS partiton and create a new FAT32 one.
Starting over from scratch is always a good thing. Especially when NTFS...
