Another way the rich get richer

Well, at least I now know how stupid I am and how intelligent everyone else is. I want to thank all the people who have set me straight on this. I never knew that my whole life has been filled with misconceptions. One thing though, please let me know the name and address of one of these people...

Another way the rich get richer

I am retired now, but when I was working I got to meet many people, people from all walks of life. I was an electronic technician and I worked on all sorts of different equipment. Some of the work was in customer's homes, other times it was in a business. After many years of going to work and...

Another way the rich get richer

Understood, but is that really a good thing to do? Why are you working? I worked so that I could make a living, but there is more to living than just surviving. Saving money is a good thing to do, but it should not be done to the exclusion of all else. What good is having a lot of money at...

Thoughts for a computer repair shop?

If you feel this is something you guys can do with minimal risk, then I say go for it. I wish the two of you all the best.

Another way the rich get richer

You are absolutely right, I said save $5 per hour. But if you read the post carefully I also said "if someone could somehow manage to save that much". But regardless, you are right, I did say that. In post number 17 you said at 5 percent interest it would amount to $587 thousand dollars. I...

Thoughts for a computer repair shop?

I'm not so sure a computer shop is a good idea. In my area we have 2 computer shops and neither one is doing very good. I know the owner of one of the repair shops and he says that there are way too many people repairing computers from their home. Parts are easy to get, places like NewEgg...

Another way the rich get richer

All I can say is, if you guys honestly believe someone making $10 per hour is going to end up wealthy by saving and investing their money, I have a bridge I want to sell you in Brooklyn.

Another way the rich get richer

No offense, but I don't buy your argument for one second. First of all, a person making $10 per hour could not afford to save half of his/her income. But that aside, where can someone earn 7 percent, or 5 percent, or even 3 percent for that matter, these days? About the only place that...

Another way the rich get richer

I don't think spending less of your income can make you rich. If you earn $10 per hour and even if you could somehow manage to save half of your income and put it into an interest bearing account, you would never live long enough to have enough money to be considered wealthy.

Electricity experts weigh in - using an extension cord for an appliance (kegerator)

Use a 12 gauge heavy duty outdoor extension cord. Buy an extension cord that is as short as possible. If it is possible to keep the extension cord from getting wet where the kegerator plugs into the extension cord, that would be a good idea too.

    Do you like your dishwasher?

We bought a Maytag dishwasher, not the top of the line, but pretty high up. When we remodeled our kitchen we made room for it and I installed it myself. We have had it now for a little over 7 years and have had no problems at all with it. I think Maytag and Amana are now owned by Whirlpool...

    How to become an electrician...

From what I understand, being an electrician is a good field to be in, but it takes quite awhile to become a licensed electrician. Also, being an electrician can potentially be a rather dangerous occupation. I have a friend who is an electrician and he says that when he works on new...

how should I cook my bacon? (updated: baked)

Sorry if I got a little out of line, I guess I took it the wrong way. This has not been a good day. It has been storming off and on, heavy rains at times and then just a drizzle at other times. I can't find my set of long handled Allen Wrenches and I need them to remove the sanding disc from...

What would you rate Taylor Swift's new video?

I don't particularly care for the song, and I am not that nuts about her either. Personally, I don't think she is that good of a singer, but if she sells her music and makes a ton of money, who am I to say?

how should I cook my bacon? (updated: baked)

According to what I have read, bacon is good, and bad, for you. The part of bacon that isn't good for you is the fat, and the salt isn't real good for you either. The lean part of bacon actually has some health benefits for you. So bacon isn't all bad, but it isn't all good either. There are...

Anyone have any experience removing older radiators from a house?

I may be wrong on this, but I don't think I am. I believe black pipe is used for gas lines and the silver colored pipe (galvanized) is used for water. Most newer hot water furnaces use copper pipe. I may be wrong on this too, but I think that particular radiator was once a steam radiator and...

ATOT Home Owners: help with a hot room

If it were me I would install about a 7,000 BTU window air-conditioner. Perhaps a 9,000 BTU unit would be better if you get some really hot days during the Summer months. An air-conditioner would do two things for you, cool the air and remove moisture from the air, both of which would help...

how should I cook my bacon? (updated: baked)

We usually get Canadian Bacon, which is pretty much like ham. Regular bacon isn't real good for you so I try to stay away from it, although once in awhile I like a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich on whole wheat bread.

Might be in for a battle with my home builder...looking for advice...

To be quite honest, if it were me I don't think I would trust the same contractor to do the job correctly. If the job was botched the first time to save money, then you already know the contractor is crooked and doesn't care if the job is sub-standard. That being the case, why would you think...

is buying a newer car worth it?

You know, most of us work hard to make a living and every once in awhile we would like to buy something that makes us happy. For example, I have some tools I bought that I have never really used, except to try them out to make sure they work. I bought a special molding knife for my surface...

Does anyone have this garage door screen thing?

For $30 I doubt you could build one. The screens would probably cost more than that. I imagine you have a 9 foot wide door and it is around 7 feet high. So by the time you buy the screen and then buy the wood, or the metal, to make the frame, I don't think you can build it as cheap as you can...

Might be in for a battle with my home builder...looking for advice...

I am thinking you may have to go to small claims court before this gets settled. I really don't understand why the roofers did not do the job correctly. Doing sub-standard work is not a good idea, it will only come back to haunt you.

How long does it take for a dog to return to normal after being sedated?

Are you referring to me? Because if you are, I have a news flash for you. If you think for one second a 5 year old dog should have been "put to sleep" because of a growth on its belly, you are nuts. The dog had the surgery and is perfectly fine, physically. The only thing is, for some reason...

How long does it take for a dog to return to normal after being sedated?

Our daughter's dog had some sort of growth on her belly. The daughter took the dog to the vet and the vet said the growth needed to be removed. So a few days later the daughter took the dog back to the vet and the vet sedated the dog and removed the growth. This was about 3 years ago and I...

is buying a newer car worth it?

You have to do what you feel is best for you. The wife and I normally buy a brand new car and then keep it for 10 years or more. That way we get it right from the beginning and we can make certain we take good care of it. We make sure the engine oil is changed on a regular interval, the...

    Rotary Lawn Mower Sharpener

That was a very expensive piece of equipment when it was new. It is used to sharpen "reel type" mowers and there isn't very many places around that can sharpen a reel mower, at least not professionally. If I were younger I would consider buying it, although very reel mowers are around anymore...

What you guys are suggesting is kind of what I am thinking too. I am going to start telling people this will be my last Summer of sharpening their blades. Next year they will need to find someone else to do it for them. That way they will have a little time to find somebody who can sharpen...

Thanks "deadlyapp" for posting those pictures for me. Much appreciated. I don't want to insult them. Over the years I have sharpened their blades and made a few bucks doing it. I am just not sure how to tell them I don't really want to do it anymore. It's not like they are total strangers...

The motor on the right side is mounted on a piece of channel iron and by turning the crank the motor slide back or forward. This allows you to get the right angle on the blade. There is a metal stop on the machine so you can only grind so far into the blade, and the piece of wood on the left...

    Rotary Lawn Mower Sharpener

I charge $3 for one blade, if they have a rider mower with 2 blades I charge $5 for the two blades. Sometimes someone will have a rider mower with three blades and then I charge $6 for the three. I was thinking I was doing something wrong and that is why I couldn't attach a picture. Is there...

    Rotary Lawn Mower Sharpener

A few years ago I built myself a lawnmower blade sharpener. The design is my own and building it was kind of fun. I like to invent stuff and I have designed and built all sorts of stuff over the years. Anyway, I sharpen mower blades for people. When I built the machine I didn't intend on...

Anyone have any experience removing older radiators from a house?

Removing the radiator should be relatively easy, unless the fittings are excessively tight or are so badly rusted that you break something when you try to remove them. But I am wondering why you would want to live is such a small space? Where are you going to put your stuff? If money is a...

Would you give the money back?

I am the same way, I would give the money to the police, ask for a receipt, and then let the police decide how to handle it in order to return the money to the rightful owners. But the thing is, I would think that legally whatever was left on/in the premises would become the property of the...

    I don't have a gun yet, so...

I have several guns, but now that I am older I seldom fire them. I have two hand guns a .22 automatic that fires long rifle cartridges and I have a .44 magnum revolver. I keep them loaded and in easy reach should someone break in. But where I live, that is highly unlikely to happen. Still...

Electric car + solar panels FTW?

I agree, where you live will no doubt make a difference. Also, how much of a tax credit is available at the time of purchase will matter too. Here is Wisconsin we have a lot of sunny days during the Summer months, but when Winter comes we get cloudy days and snow. I am assuming the snow would...
