Yes. That's why I thought either the MSM or LSA software would do the job, as that's what is (was) supported by Broadcom. I believe LSA is still updated, actually , so it's a shame it's not working for me.
Unfortunately since my card is considered a Legacy card, Broadcom's stated stance is no...
I see no firmwares on the Broadcom site confirming they are any different, other than earlier versions, of what the card has now, which is the latest version.
So if there is some other firmware I'm unable to find, please do show me.
So the concensus is I need to flash the card's firmware. I'm not sure where to start on that, though I know there are utilities to do so.
That makes no sense to me. If the drives are being presented to the OS, then the software to manage the drives should work (MSM/LSA)
So essentially you're saying if the card is flashed to a different mode, then that will enable software to manage RAID? I thought that HBA mode would allow software to manage the discs?
How will that resolve the issue with the software exactly? I just want MSM or LSA working. Thanks.
I want to configure RAID through one or the other softwares, to be clear.
Well the thread has certainly drifted from my intent, and I'll take some responsibility for that.
I only have one goal here: to get either MSM or LSA functioning and usable, not advice on what others would do.
What I currently do has no bearing on that.
Actually my ripped surround music collection, is now (just checked) is north of 34TB. That is primarily .iso files. Does not include ripped or hi rez stereo files. I also have several 6 ft tall disc racks, and several smaller ones. Somewhere north of 2000 discs.
I'm 74 years old and have been...
See I don't have a clue what that means. Just sounds like a lot of work. I just want something I can set up, works, and not have to futz with anything. I have over 30TB of surround music I want to mirror. My collection is constantly being added to, and copying to this drive/folder and on and on...
Supposedly HBA mode. I am far from an expert though. I just need some software with a GUI that works. Not going the command line stuff, and I don't do Linux.
Apparently the BIOS isn't available on boot from what I read on the Broadcom docs. Apparently must be managed by software, which is my goal anyway.
I did allow HHI in my mobo BIOS and the card shows up in the BIOS but there's no configuration options.
Uninstalled/reinstalled LSA and still no...
I tried spamming Ctrl+C and Ctrl+A on CSM boots and could not enter the card's BIOS. Maybe a different key combo??
First card I've had that would not indicate key combo to access the card. Hopefully someone knows.
BTW card has latest BIOS and confirmed latest drivers from Broadcom site.
Yes
Did not work
All I can say is it's working well. All drives show up in Windows. First card I've had in this mobo that my mobo wasn't fussy about and/or had to boot in CSM & disable boot BIOS on card.
Don't know?
Drivers are latest I could find. I need to do another check on firmware but...
I have followed the instructions to the letter, over and over to get MSM working. I can not login because it does not see my pc as a server, all though my Windows static IP is displayed on the login page.
I have used the recommended Java flavor, (8u282-b08) and set a system variable JRE_HOME...
I have north of 33TB of surround sound music all ripped and residing on HDD's...and except for old DTS-CD's everything is ripped to .iso.
But, if you are going to rip an UtraHD movie or music you need an optical drive that hasn't been crippled by it's firmware. In some cases you can flash...
So problem solved. I bought a 9400-16i card and it's working beautifully.
However, even after following instructions to the letter, I can't get MSM (megaraid storage manager) to work.
I downloaded JAF-1_2_0 from GitHub
I created the c:\jre\bin folders.
added the javax.activation.jar to the bin...
Yeah adding the aux power to the board did nothing for me.
Once drives are added, on boot up the desktop and taskbar disappear. Weird behavior, same as I ran into last year fighting with this board and this mobo.
Back to the Adaptec card until it croaks, I reckon.
Save the pennies for a newer...
It does and I did not. I was told in the past it was not necessary? But I had another 9300 card last year, power header connected, and I could not make it work either. IDK. Being as how Asus has said it's not supported, I've already spent way too many hours on it.
Out of curiosity, does anyone...
OK Asus has informed me the LSI 9300 16i card is not compatible with my motherboard. Major bummer. So guess for now I'm sticking with the (very hot running) Adaptec 7106 16i card. I'll be adding a direct mount fan on the heatsink.
Thank you.
For whatever reason my Asus Prime Z590-A board just does not like the 9300 card. Whereas all other cards I've tried work just fine, maybe with a few quirks.
The 9300 card "just works" on my 6th gen Asus ROG board running Win10, but that's not the target machine.
I'm currently using...
Installed Win 10 Pro on main rig. Installed LSI 9300 16i card.
No good. This motherboard wants nothing to do with it. lol.
I have an Avago 16i card I stuck in. Works perfect but had to lay an 80mm fan across it to shut the damn alarm down.
So I will stick with the Avago card and chunk the 9300...
lol. I know. All advice appreciated.
I'm thinking to install Win 10 on my Nvme drive / Win 11 machine via USB first since I keep frequent backups, and with Macrium it's a snap to restore. Just need time. I don't know how I ever had time to go to a job before I retired many years ago.
Maybe by this weekend I can get all the prep done and check it out. Worth a try.
I hardly think a 240 GB SSD is necessary, I have a 128 Samsung 830 Pro still working good I can use.
I suppose this would confirm if it's hardware/software for sure.
Was really hoping someone here was using that...
Ugh. Not sure what that would gain me for the work involved. If you're thinking hardware, well 6th gen vs 10th/11th gen, I just don't know.
I know from experience the consumer board I have always fights me on installing SAS/SATA cards.
I have a graphics card installed so there should be no...
Thanks. Far as I can tell, Windows is installing the latest (2008) drivers. There may be newer ones but I've been unable to find any for this board as yet. I remember a while back looking on the Broadcom site, but don't think there were any newer drivers that worked.
I put the 9300 card in my Win 10 machine 6th gen cpu/ROG board and it just works, no hassles.
Why not on Win 11? Scratching my head.
On the Win 11 machine I tried backing way up on the BIOS, but to no avail.
OK guess I'll quit posting now. Was really hoping for some guidance.
No. I know how to open all the tools.
I've tried every combination in the ROM. (disabled should be the setting I would think, to disallow the boot ROM)
Once drives are actually connected to the LSI board, boot time is slooooooow. Sometimes after a half hour I just turn off the pc.
None of the...
Well I've booted in all ROM modes in the card but no luck.
I can stick the LSI 9311 in and no problemo. But I found I've been getting some errors from the card so want to switch to the 9300 and also ditch the Lenovo expander board.
So I keep at it....
