  1. Speculation on the PPD in F@H of the new 3080 and 3090 Ampere cards ?

If you're able to you will be a lot better off performance-wise going with 2x RTX 3080s instead as everything is pointing towards the 3090 being "only" 20% faster. That would still make the 3090 more power efficient at 350W vs 320Wx2. But hey, if you get the two 3080s you save $100 you can put...
  2. Getting Random Stuttering in Games

Got the new PowerColor Red Devil today. All problems solved so I'm really happy about that. Runs some 2-3C cooler than the Asus on their default/not-OC BIOS, but that's probably down to the PowerColor being 1220MHz vs 1250MHz. The memory does come clocked higher at 7GHz vs 6.6GHz so...
  3. Getting Random Stuttering in Games

Yeah, it's more than enough. It's a 400W 80 Plus Gold (90% efficient) unit. I made sure by running MSI Kombustor coupled with Intel Burn Test on 3 cores/threads (gotta leave 1 core for Kombustor) for 12 hours straight when I first got the card. The power supply was at room temp and the fan was...
  4. Getting Random Stuttering in Games

Dang. I bought it on Amazon a month ago but because of their extended holiday returns I have until the 31st of January to return it. Is flashing a custom BIOS very risky?
  5. Getting Random Stuttering in Games

I did, actually. I wanted to make sure it wasn't an issue with the HDD so I installed Unigine Valley on the SSD and left it running. I set it to DX11 on High settings with 4xMSAA at 1080p. It ran anywhere from 40FPS-120FPS depending on the scene, the average being right at 60FPS. CPU usage...
  6. Getting Random Stuttering in Games

Thank you! Unfortunately for me I had all drivers installed so that's not something that I could look into as a reason. The computer is running a clean install of Windows 10 Pro AU and the only things I have running in the background are Google Drive, my Bluetooth settings, Steam, and my...
  7. Getting Random Stuttering in Games

Depends on the game. On this one since it's an older, less demanding game everything runs cool: 53-62C for the CPU and 50-60C for the GPU. On demanding games like Battlefield 4 on Ultra it'll be 68-78C for the CPU (Tj max is 98C) and 64-72C for the GPU.
  8. Getting Random Stuttering in Games

https://youtu.be/hMFFNi9SKBA https://youtu.be/iwbUUA_yzoQ Trying to get to the bottom of what's causing this. It happens no matter the game and no matter what drivers I use. Just did a clean install of Windows on the SSD; game is running on HDD. Seems to happen completely randomly, can be...
  9. Intel Skylake / Kaby Lake

All this new stuff since Sandy Bridge seems underwhelming. I used to have a rig with a Haswell Core i7-4790K, 16GB of DDR3-2400, and a Radeon R9 390 which I had to sell when I moved from Puerto Rico to Texas and now looking at budget options I got the HP workstation in my sig used and put in...
  10. Best/Fastest Phone I Could Get for $70.

What would be the fastest and most recent thing I could get for that amount that can work on the AT&T network? I'm trying to help out my mom who had a Nokia Lumia 520 but it died. She has a small budget. It can be Windows Phone as that's what she was using up to now, but she was kinda bummed...
  11. Moto G 2015 3rd Gen 1GB enough?

Whatever, dude. Again, most people don't care either way. I don't care if you're a nerd. What you're nerding out about 80% of the population don't care about, because it rarely makes any big change to the experience. BTW, talking specifically about updates, I said nowadays. I also said .1...
  12. Moto G 2015 3rd Gen 1GB enough?

They always take longer if they're not Nexus devices. No matter if they have a near-stock version. Always. That and non-stock ROMs many times (ZenFone included) add some useful features, which again, I could easily argue is important to some people. Some people also don't care about OS...
  13. Post the milestones here!

Thanks! I'm excited! Should be at 5M points in 8 days only.
  14. Post the milestones here!

Just went from 2M to 3M f@h points in 6 days. Gunning for 4M in 4 1/2 days now that I'm getting 210-220K PPD average. Also gonna go into the top 100 in overall TeAm AnandTech points in a few hours.
  15. Moto G 2015 3rd Gen 1GB enough?

You can root it and remove all of it if you don't like it as well. Or you can take stock Android and add features with different ROMs. It's not like you're forced to have to use it.
  16. Moto G 2015 3rd Gen 1GB enough?

That depends on whether you can define the additional things as bloat. Some people find 'em useful. Again, subjective. You can use that argument and I can just as easily say ZenUI has a much better quick settings and battery management system/app.
  17. Moto G 2015 3rd Gen 1GB enough?

LOL, looks like that (pretty meaningless) argument is gone then. Most T-Mo customers don't rely heavily on Band 12 for coverage. In any case they can just fall into HSPA+ which is 44Mbps max.
  18. Moto G 2015 3rd Gen 1GB enough?

LOL, sure... it's the other way around, dear. Your argument of better UI is as subjective as they come. Higher resolution, bigger display is not. Neither is 3x faster processor.
  19. Moto G 2015 3rd Gen 1GB enough?

More dev friendly is debatable. The phone just came out and the ZenFone had its bootloader unlocked and you can put CyanogenMod on it, which is what most people into custom ROMs use. Better for T-Mobile... if you happen to be in an area that relies heavily on Band 12, which is rarely the...
  20. Moto G 2015 3rd Gen 1GB enough?

Not really. From personal experience and that of other friends Android needs around 2GB to run smoothly. 1GB you'll get by with some apps, and not so much with others. Any sort of multi-tasking in particular is hampered by apps both having to redraw and taking time to load. Buy a ZenFone 2...
  21. Post the milestones here!

Thank you! I decided to take the gamble at around 1AM and dust off a Sapphire HD 7870 I had laying around that I hadn't used in over two years because it came with a manufacturing defect where the capacitors were under-specced and if you'd game for 10+ mins it'd cause a gray or black screen...
  22. Post the milestones here!

It is! I can't even believe it! Since starting folding 24/7 on 07/25 I have amassed up to the last update 960K points, 85% of that coming from my HD 7950. I will finish today on about 1.02M points, with the 7950 giving me 867K points from that tally. I did the calculations and I'm getting...
  23. Post the milestones here!

Thanks! I'm very surprised at the amount of computing power you can have for so cheap nowadays. I used to have 1.2M points before starting 6 days ago and bringing it to 2M. I am getting about 120K PPD with my HD 7950 Boost/R9 280 at 1050MHz and I bought it for a measly $115 on eBay and...
  24. Post the milestones here!

2M points in folding@home. Scoring about 130-140K PPD after a 2 year hiatus.
  25. Post the milestones here!

Is there something wrong with folding@home? I am on our team page at extreme overclocking and absolutely no production has been registered today. I had a WU worth 73K points this midnight, one four hours later at 28K points, and another four later same 28K. So total of three WUs and 129K...
  26. Core 2 Quad Q6600 vs Atom Z3580?

I concur. They will have to reach Core 2 Quad levels of performance in a few years due to competition from ARM in the smartphone and tablet market. I think Intel's still leaving a decent amount of performance on the table with Atom to avoid it getting too close to Core M... that's the only...
  27. Core 2 Quad Q6600 vs Atom Z3580?

I have a Lenovo Miix 2 8". Got it used/like new for $100 to try out Modern UI and because I didn't have a tablet, and it's been great. Modern UI works awesome in tablets and the CPU/RAM combo gives pretty good performance. It boots up in around 6-7 seconds and can handle a dozen tabs in...
  28. Core 2 Quad Q6600 vs Atom Z3580?

That's quite a big jump in performance for only 30MHz and another memory channel. The Z3740 is 15.4% faster than the Z3735D in Cinebench. The Z3770 scores 4000 points flat in CB10, so I guess that means a Q6600 would be right a bit over 2x faster at 9700 points. But also consider a TDP of...
  29. Core 2 Quad Q6600 vs Atom Z3580?

Could you maybe get your brother to run WPrime 2.X (any version after 2.0)? It tests multi-threaded CPU performance. An Atom Z3770 (up to 2.39GHz; Z3580 is up to 2.33GHz) scores 26.6 seconds (lower is better). Maybe also Cinebench R15? If someone with a Z3770 tablet like a Dell Venue 11 Pro...
  30. Core 2 Quad Q6600 vs Atom Z3580?

True. I just want to point out, though, that Bay Trail does in fact support dual-channel memory, just not in the few models ending with the "D" designation. That is to say, an Atom Z3740 supports dual-channel while a Z3740D does not. I have a Lenovo Miix 2 8" with a Z3740 running Windows 8.1...
  31. Seagate 3TB Drives Are Problematic

I have had my 3TB Barracuda 7200.14 (the exact model they are criticizing) for over three years and according to SMART it is running perfectly. Temps are within 32-36C depending on load and it reports no errors or reallocated sectors. Same with the Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB I have had for five...
  32. ASUS ZenFone 2 / Zoom

And costed $580 when it came out and is still $370 unlocked. This, the 2GB/1.83GHz version is $200 and the 4GB/2.33GHz version is $250-300. And the 4GB version does have better specs overall. The camera's not excellent when it comes to picture quality, but it is good. Not mediocre or poor...
  33. AMD quad core A8-6600k APU only showing 2 CPUs

Even if true, it's irrelevant. It's still neither a dual or quad-core depending on how you look at it. It has four integer cores and two floating point. However you slice it, AMD is using the term "quad-core" very loosely.
  34. AMD quad core A8-6600k APU only showing 2 CPUs

Just... what? Do you know how CPU architecture works? I don't even...
  35. AMD quad core A8-6600k APU only showing 2 CPUs

Uh... it was already detecting them... that's why it said 4 logical processors. To an OS when using resources it's indifferent whether it sees them as hardware threads/cores. Doing this changes nothing regarding performance, it only changes that Windows now thinks it's a "quad-core".
  36. AMD quad core A8-6600k APU only showing 2 CPUs

If I were you I'd forgo getting an AMD processor for gaming altogether. At every price bracket Intel has something that is both faster and more power efficient.
  37. AMD quad core A8-6600k APU only showing 2 CPUs

Because it's not a true "quad-core" CPU owing to the fact it has four integer cores and two floating point cores. Windows 8 reads that as it having four hardware threads and two cores, whereas previously Windows 7 would report it as having "4" cores. It's just how Microsoft programmed it and...
  38. Newegg Kabini $99 kit

I guess, yeah. Not by a whole lot, though. Intel Pentium G3220: $57 AMD Athlon 5350: $57 ECS H81H3-I: $49 ASUS AM1I-A: $41 I guess you could argue that ASUS is a more-recognized brand than ECS, but you also have an actual upgrade path if you get a Pentium. Not to mention, you get a...
  39. Newegg Kabini $99 kit

Price is not an advantage as it costs the same. As for power savings, they're negligible. Any of the two will be just fine on a small case as they produce very little heat. Have you seen the heatsinks even Core i7s come with? Maybe you'll save $1 on your electricity bill a year, but a...
  40. EVGA GTX 780 Classified $339.99 AR!

I don't know where you got that from. The GTX 970 on average is 10% faster than the GTX 780, and it costs less, and it uses less power. Unless you want to do SLI there's really no reason to get this over a GTX 970. Yeah, I get it that it's the Classified and comes with a factory...
