What's your gasoline costing?

2,25 € / liter in Germany, I think that works out to about 9$ a gallon. People in the US have a long way to go before they should start complaining about gas prices :).

[In EU] Looking for a light Ryzen laptop (but with juice)

Is there not a single good ~9-10" tablet?

Another vote for the first gen galaxy tab s. I have the 8.4 but I can't imagine the 10 inch is any different. Good battery life, excellent screen. I can't really speak to the performance because all I do is surf on it. For surfing, the performance is good.

Update: Januray 2016 The problem was an incorrectly programmed ME (Intel Management Engine) region of one of the bios chips. With help from another forum (see thread below) I was able to get the laptop running normally again...

Lenovo's response was that the mobo needs to be replaced. Thanks for the suggestion burpo. I'm in germany so that doesn't help unfortunately. I'll definitely check out ebay.de though.

I flashed the bios again but to an earlier version this time. During the flash, the bios was flashed (256 blocks) and then the embedded controller (32 blocks). The last time I tried a bios flash, only the bios was updated. Anyway, it didn't solve the problem, the laptop still shuts off after 30...

Thanks for the info. I haven't changed the cpu. Do I need a laptop-specific file to flash the firmware? What's the difference between the bios and the firmware? Which of the 2 chips is affected? Messing up my laptop isn't a big deal. Restarting it every 30 minutes already makes it relatively...

Update 2: Since replacing the bios chips, the laptop powers down 30 minutes after booting. It happens in windows, it happens in the bios menu, and it happens regardless what I do with the laptop. Putting the system in stand-by resets the 30 minute timer, so the system is still somewhat useable...

Just got a text from friend - he also got a hybrid. UPDATE: My Prius is totalled!

[Reuters] LG planning collab with "Japanese, Chinese companies" to mass produce OLED

One of the nice things about windows used to be the various color themes available. If I had an OLED and used windows on it, I would run a black background with white or yellow text. That would take care of the lifetime issue. It would help the battery life on laptops with OLED displays.

How does faster upload/download speeds translate into lower ping??

Thats probably due to increased buffer time. When netflix is running, the router has to mux 2 io streams vs.1 when you are the sole client.

Slightly technical (and possibly stupid) question about batteries

My guess is that heat is a limiting factor in consumer electronics. My tablet and phone both get pretty damn warm when they charge. If that's actually the case, the only way multiple batteries would help is if they were physically seperate units and spread heat around the chassis. That obviously...

USB battery charging - help me understand

I've found that charginig my phone (Galaxy S4 mini) with a usb output from a computer results in the battery lasting half as long as it does when charged with the 1 Amp wall charger. Anyone else noticed something similar?

Will Elon Musk Batteries render electric companies obsolete soon?

Solar cells that generate enough power for a typical house already cost a ton. Now add countless batteries to that cost and a lifetime of ~10 years and you can forget about saving money. I don't think the power companies are worried.
