  1. Intel 320 or Corsair F115?

Go Intel because they are the most reliable. The added speed of the F115 is not worth it !
  2. New Indilinx firmwares coming with up to 500% performance?

Typical OCZ behaviour : "we don't know what the SMART data means" and yet you claim to have produced these SSDs LOL. My rule of thumb for storage and RAM and panels and everything etc. : only buy from people that make the actual things eg Intel make the NAND but OCZ do not. LG make the...
  3. Sandforce's flaky SSD SMART attributes

IMHO I would stay away from sandforce at all costs. Just get Intel if you want most reliable. Get Vertex 3 if you want speed that only lasts a couple of months before it dies etc.
  4. New Indilinx firmwares coming with up to 500% performance?

LOL seems like the OCZ buyers are tired of being guinea pigs LOL !
  5. External drive supporting encryption without software

What you are looking for is called AES hardware encryption. EG like this http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=9896 !
  6. OCZ Vertex 3 240gb max iops-does anyone knowledgable think it matters?

It does not affect home users at all. The IOPS number is all about how long your ePeen is. Even 1000 IOPS should be more than enough etc. considering HDD does about double digits figure etc.
  7. Single-chip SSD controller

LOL I don't think so. No need for DRAM = strong ssd controller Needs loads of dram = whacky ssd controller
  8. How bad will next gen NAND P/E cycle count will be?

It cannot. It is just basic physics. No matter how much you "refine the process". Just get one of the good old trusty G2 drives before they get discontinued.
  9. What size is your OS/main drive?

    4 GB almost 5 GB. Linux > Winblow$
  10. OCZ Vertex 3 240gb max iops-does anyone knowledgable think it matters?

Well I have seen it happen to a couple of computer illiterate people that I know. They idiotically paid for the "antivirus". Just how dumb can people get these days ! On the other hand hats off to the designers of that software because they have a good business model. If people are dumb enough...
  11. How bad will next gen NAND P/E cycle count will be?

Finally somebody that is smart enough to realize that this technology is dead in its tracks and is not going anywhere soon ( except to the trash maybe ). You just cannot scale this technology any further. Graphene or another next-gen material is the answer. Soon enough you will see 1000...
  12. OCZ Vertex 3 240gb max iops-does anyone knowledgable think it matters?

Obviously the MAX IOPS has Toshiba toggle-mode 34nm NAND that is 1) much faster 2) much more reliable in the cycles it can resist 3) more expensive than the 25nm IMFT flash in the normal version. On another note : you are being paranoid about all those security applications. I used to run...
  13. Intel 20gb Larson Creek SSD

Massive fail IMHO just get 64GB MLC for the average consumer and put Windows on it and leave your dirty videos on HDDs ( that's what HDDs are there for etc. ) ? Will this support the Intel G3 controller / firmware with AES encryption and NAND redundancy or just like an Intel G2 drive but with...
  14. Larson Creek: Intel 311 Series, Price $ :o

IMHO massive fail Intel. Two reasons : -for me personally and probably other enterprise applications : no AES encryption and NAND redundancy because of the Intel G2 controller inside. They should have used the G3 one instead. -for the average Joe : at that price I can buy a nice 80GB SSD and...
  15. Which SLC SSD do you recommend ?

Too bad the P300 doesn't have AES encryption like SF or Intel 320.
  16. Which SLC SSD do you recommend ?

Good to hear about the P300 ! Hopefully if the prices come down.
  17. Details of Intel's Next Round of SSDs Leak Out

Well I am only buying SLC drives but they need to have a AES hardware encryption. Just hoping that Intel "larsen creek" shows up fast with aes encryption and nand redundancy !
  18. Details of Intel's Next Round of SSDs Leak Out

Indeed for a cache drive AES would not really make sense. Can't wait to see the drive opened up and review to see what kind of controller it has. If it is the 320 series controller that supports AES and NAND redundancy with just SLC flash then that will be VERY nice for me ! If not then I will...
  19. Details of Intel's Next Round of SSDs Leak Out

Totally agree with you there on all points. Do you think the Larsen Creek will include similar features like the Intel 320 series. Features like AES encryption and NAND RAID-like redundancy ???
  20. Intel 20gb Larson Creek SSD

Yes but I think it will cost a lot more as well because it is SLC and Intel is expensive brand.
  21. Details of Intel's Next Round of SSDs Leak Out

AFAIK there is only 34nm and 25nm and 50nm NAND for SSDs now.
  22. Intel 20gb Larson Creek SSD

Well that is pretty obvious but it is up to Intel what FW they are going to use on this "Larsen Creek"
  23. Details of Intel's Next Round of SSDs Leak Out

Yes indeed but those capacities are typical with Sandforce. I may be wrong though but Intel+Sandforce= KICKASS !
  24. My 2 year old Intel G1 drive life

There is no doubt that SF has the lowest WA when used as a boot drive simply because it does compression and most OS files are compressible.
  25. Details of Intel's Next Round of SSDs Leak Out

They will surely be using Sandforce controller. Intel has admited defeat and joining Sandforce according to the mentality "If you can't beat them, join them" because the 120 240 480 are TYPICAL sandforce capacity points and because Intel cannot stand OCZ grabbing much of the marketshare for...
  26. Details of Intel's Next Round of SSDs Leak Out

It would indeed seem like the SSD market is starting to fall into place : OCZ + Indilinx Intel + Sandforce ( "Cheryville" will definately be based on Sandforce controller - Intel decided they have been beaten by Sandforce and maybe joins them or buys them as the Intel 510 with Marvell was...
  27. My 2 year old Intel G1 drive life

So what about the actual / real / measured WA on Sandforce drives ? Do you have any info except official Sandforce literature eg 25gb only 11 writen to disk etc. ??
  28. Intel 20gb Larson Creek SSD

Does anyone think that there is a chance that this Larsen creek thing will support AES and be based off the intel 320 series controller ??
  29. Intel 20gb Larson Creek SSD

I don't even care about this stupid cache feature. I just hope that it can be used as just a 20GB SLC SSD without any fancy drivers needed. Just get 60GB SSD for your OS and you are sorted. This whole idea will be as fail as Intel Robson.
  30. Intel 20gb Larson Creek SSD

They will release it close to the Z68 chipset launch, surely. So, according to Google that will be around the beginning of May at the latest. BUT will this larsen creek 20gb slc drive be based off the controller that supports AES 128 ? If not then it will be useless for me. Emulex...
  31. SSDs and Reliability

If I ever get a SF based drive I will just be praying that the same things does not happen to mine. Really a pity because SF is the fastest 3gbps and 6gbps controller you can get with the lowest WA etc. The implementation sucked because they did not bother to test it properly before it got...
  32. Intel 20gb Larson Creek SSD

When does everybody think this will be released ??? May 11th ?
  33. How to reformat Crucial C-300?

Indeed I secure erase once every 6 months and reinstall the OS.
  34. Intel 20gb Larson Creek SSD

Well it better be writes too because then why the need for slc nand?
  35. SSDs and Reliability

Well this is exactly the reason why I am reluctant to get SF SSD. Did you use sleep or hibernation? Did the red and green led appear? Did it just stop being detected by the BIOS? Tried an external enclosure etc. What did ocz say eg did you get replacement or refund etcetera ?
  36. High SSD prices April 2011

Indeed SF unreliability is really a pity and may be due to users using sleep and hibernation when clearly told not to do so!
  37. My 2 year old Intel G1 drive life

Indeed Indilinx has a WA of almost 10 while Intel, Marvell, Samsung have close to 1 and Sandforce has 0.5 due to smart compression.
  38. SSDs and Reliability

Voo, I completely agree with you that the NAND is not the problem ( so far) but that the controller is to blame, especially in the case of sandforce. Groberts, that is why I originally chose Sandforce because of their compression algorithm that is THE ONLY one that has a WA factor of 0.56 but...
  39. SSDs and Reliability

OK so you say that Spectek + Sandforce is a good combination and even better than Intel NAND + Intel controller ? Quite interesting.
  40. SSDs and Reliability

Well then look at the more subtle things : -OWC post did not get taken down by OCZ lawyers -Spectek website excerpts : "Whether it's MP3 devices, USB drives, or cell phones...our NAND Flash components deliver exceptional performance for your applications." "With growth in today’s NAND...
