  1. Wifi

Powerline networking is not 100% reliable. Not good enough for me, it might be good enough for others. Use both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz for wifi, configured correctly for the location. Yes, I have used wifi in many areas. It isn't a simple plug in and forget it technology, you have to plans, test, deploy.
  2. Wifi

Avoid powerline at all costs, a waste of money. Look at your wifi router (AP), check if it is configured correctly. Enable the width as only 20 Mhz wide. Only use channels 1 or 6 or 11, no other, ever. enable WPA2-AES security, to make sure no one else is using it, keep it secure. As is only...

Depends on the phone and OS version. My unlocked (never locked) Nexus 6's tethering is disabled, unless I enable via root.
  4. Is it possible to oppose gays in today's society?

When people mention God, which God are you talking about? Please be specific.
  5. I suppose Sanders supporters are throwing these threats too

The rich can never be rich enough. They want to get richer, no matter at what cost, no matter who they trample on. The American way, ever since people got rich by using slaves. I'm sure Trump/Cruz and co, would bring back slavery if allowed... to make America great again (whatever that means).
  6. Apple TV (4th Gen) and Netflix ending credits

It happens per Netflix's poor design. Contact Netflix and ask them to stop screwing up their UI.
  7. Connecting 2 homes about 2 miles apart

Looks good. Have you played with using wider than 20 Mhz? What I do is use the lowest power, then use that for aiming, I found the rx/tx signal strengths vary more at that level. Then I bump it up.
  8. Connecting 2 homes about 2 miles apart

I find that it is a good idea to enable the ping watchdog too.
  9. Connecting 2 homes about 2 miles apart

When you connect those, start with the power set really low when aiming.
  10. Connecting 2 homes about 2 miles apart

You will need to be mindful of future tree growth there. Yep, 5Ghz should be used over 2.4Ghz. Two of these devices would be good. NBE-5AC-16 But if the trees get in the way, your signal will drop, perhaps to nothing. LocoM9 nanostations or M900 rocket bridges with yagi antennas will do...
  11. Connecting 2 homes about 2 miles apart

Nanostations can go a lot further than 2 miles.
  12. Connecting 2 homes about 2 miles apart

You also need to be aware of the fresnel zone. Check out details of each nanostation here: https://airlink.ubnt.com/#/
  13. Connecting 2 homes about 2 miles apart

If there are trees between, I think the only thing you'd have a chance with are the M900s.
  14. Recommend a Wireless AP

Yes, that is the correct UAP-AC-LR , UAP-AC-Lite is another option. That link doesn't have the best price. I have those plus I use the cloud key device, you don't need it, but it really helps. Part: UC-CK

Put it on channel 1, 20 Mhz for 2.4 Ghz, WPA2-AES. Enable 5 Ghz with the same SSID and security.
  17. Let's talk Roku

The Roku 4 is too buggy for me, took it back. It has a cooling fan too, so it just a matter of time for that to break. I'm waiting for the next version.
  18. Let's talk Roku

The 2015 models of Roku 2 and Roku 3 are exactly the same, the only difference are the remotes. Same speed, same hardware.
  19. Let's talk Roku

The fire tv stick is a waste of money, even if you paid 3 cents for it. Buggy/slow/junk. If you want a Roku and don't want 4k, then get either the latest Roku2 or Roku3 (if you want an RF remote), the Roku2/3 is the same hardware.

  22. Is your Amazon Fire TV stick...garbage?

The Nexus Player works really well, I use it for HBO Now, Netflix, PBS, Google music, Google movies and VLC (NAS streamed video files). It also acts as a Chromecast, so you can cast anything from your phone to it like normal. It is Wifi only, dual band, mine connects on 802.11ac.
  23. Is your Amazon Fire TV stick...garbage?

Same exact issues for me. I stopped using both fire tv sticks, just junk devices. The usb power supplies will get used for something else. No issues at all with my chromecasts (2.4Ghz), Nexus player (5Ghz) or the Rokus.

  25. Dual wireless adapters - one for internet, one for lan access? (advice wanted)

  27. Dual wireless adapters - one for internet, one for lan access? (advice wanted)

You need a router that connects to the public wifi (ex: SSID = PublicNet), then also gives out a private SSID (ex: PrivateNet). Then you would connect to the PrivateNet via wifi, giving you internet and LAN access, and no one else your LAN access. Not many routers will provide this option, not...
  28. making a NAS/Plex server, need opinions

I got my TS-451 for about $350 then I added 16GB Ram. Not the cheapest, but I think it is really nice for the price. It runs a few VMs too. The Plex does have the transcoding, but it might be always a few versions behind the most current release.
  29. making a NAS/Plex server, need opinions

Look at the price of something like a QNAP TS-451 with its built in Plex server, might end up being cheaper, and it does RAID well.

  34. Wifi inside metal building?

Save your money. Ethernet over power is flaky at best. #1) run a wire, outdoor cat5/6 rated, run a plastic water line such as this. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Advanced-Drainage-Systems-1-in-x-200-ft-CTS-200-psi-NSF-Poly-Pipe-X4-1250200/205909047, put the cable through the middle. That will...
