Yeah...and they have tape systems with cartridge loaders that can hold crap tons of tapes. Of course, tapes don't hold 1 TB.
To be honest, though, you're spending a lot of money to have a bunch of hard drives sitting there never to be used or even operational. Plus, I'd venture that it's not...
Funny OCZ should be pushing TRIM since their solution is less prone to require it, though it still helps them. Should be interesting to see it come along.
Have they found a way around the issues with RAID + SSD and no TRIM? I suppose given the lack of TRIM in RAID is a driving factor to picking a Sandforce solution? Is this a real concern? Just curious....
+1, it sounds as though you have the funds to do this right, may as well do so. Buy SATA/SAS RAID cards, configure a RAID array, then virtualize the space from that.
Like others said, the recommended products are cases full of SATA backplanes with room for a motherboard (and the rest of the...
Haha...I've had so many systems that wouldn't boot that all I did was re-seat something and it magically worked. Sometimes it's RAM, others it's a PCI card. Heck, I remember a long time ago I had a modem that just all of a sudden stopped being recognized by the system. I pulled it, popped it...
I could get rid of the Ubuntu laptop if I wanted, but the other laptop is for work and I have to keep that. I'm not allowed to access their networks with anything but their approved hardware.
Haha :(, it's funny to be going back in time...but if that drive proves to be as steady a DAE...
Thanks for that case suggestion...I think it may work well. It has everything I wanted. I think I'll wait out a lot of the build, though. I'm going to pick up the SDD and Win 7, install on my current machine and make sure the SCSI drive and card will do what I want. If they do, I'll keep...
Ugh...I think I may have found a case that works and has bottom mount power supply. I didn't find it the first go around because Newegg lists the dimensions wrong, but when I looked at the picture it listed them differently. Anyone know anything about this Rosewill GEAR X3 case?
Worse, since...
Amazing how much cheaper everything is now, huh? My uncle bought one of the very first CD-Writers...it had a caddy. I don't want to know how much he paid for it, lol.
I'm surprised if it didn't seat properly that it cooled the CPU at all and that the CPU didn't burn up.
Story time, lol.
My last build (AMD Athlon 1.2 Ghz) started out as a 1.1 Ghz machine. I bought all the stuff at a computer show. The HSF was re-boxed (as was much of the stuff there) and...
Yeah...I see that...maybe I'll just stick with the P67 boards and grab a PATA IFF my SCSI project doesn't work out. Of course, that probably pushes the build out a little while, but unfortunately probably not long enough for the Z68 chipset and integrated gfx to be supported well. I like...
Was thinking about it. Right now I have two laptops sitting on my desk (work & play), my wife has hers downstairs, and I will have this new build and quite possibly keep around the older HP it's replacing. So...I'll probably look at getting two/three monitors. I will also pick up a KVM to...
LOL! I remember having to hook up the audio cable from the CD drive to the sound card just because of this...any more, I think the O/S uses the DAE capabilities to stream the sound through the O/S to the sound card.
HAHA, I so remember that...but I had a 2400 baud modem and then, finally, a...
Haven't picked one yet. I have an older 15" LCD, but it won't be staying. I'd really like it to be 16:10, but I can't drop the coin on a 2560x1600 display, so I'll probably stick to 1920x1200. I really don't want a 16:9 monitor...I'm too used to 16:10 on my laptops and that little extra is...
Hey guys! Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll look at some other mother boards with Z68 and grab an IDE card. This way I can drop the video card from my budget until/unless it becomes necessary. Plus I can probably get a better value motherboard that way. Since I'm not limited to...
Oh, and here's a quick "off-topic" but do the "OEM" versions of Win 7 Pro on Newegg have any additional limitations other than not having official support? For example, if I build a PC and put it on there then radically change components, will it stop me from installing it again on the new set...
Thanks for reading it, and thanks for the warm welcome.
One thing I liked about the Corsair unit was the 24 pin was an entirely separate connector so I didn't have to stuff extra cables away. What's the additional 8-pin (? looks like two 4-pin connectors offset by a little in the pic) strapped...
Is it SATA? If not, you either have to buy a new one or buy an IDE card as that mobo doesn't have a PATA channel. I'd guess if the current drive isn't SATA then you're not too attached to it, so with new drives being just about as cheap as a card, you may as well buy a new drive. Of course...
Hey ladies and gents! First, since this is my first post, let me say hello. I saw a few other build threads in here and figured since you all were so helpful in those that maybe you could extend me the same courtesy. So...if you'll excuse the long post, I'd really appreciate the assistance...
