Who else loves needless overkill?

I'd be interested if it works fanless. I'd guess you'd probably want to mount the radiator on a top fan mount for the convection, but if you have a positive pressure case, why not?

What paste should I use?

If you've removed your heatsink, you should remove the old paste and reapply before reseating. It doesn't need to cover the whole surface of the processor, just where the cores are under the CPU cap (Arctic Silver's instructions have a good image of this, page 5 here - pdf link). For most folks...

This. When I first got an SSD I went through the whole ritual of trying to reduce writes, but as far as I can tell, they're not actually being killed by writes. Folks have been trying. Newer SSDs are robust enough that you can just throw your system on there and forget about it.

That's odd. When I use turbo, it just turbos up to the multiplier I've set, using the voltages I've set. That you'd get different voltages with turbo enabled compared to without seems strange. Are you switching from a fixed voltage to a dynamic one when you enable those options, or...

USB 3.0 motherboard adapter

I had to do something similar, deconstructing the rear bracket that came with my P8P67 Pro mobo so it took up less space and plugging a USB3 card reader into it. Biggest hassle was finding somewhere to tuck the ridiculous volume of cabling I was left with to go 6 inches.

SB Owners, what is your next CPU upgrade?

Ivy. I'm intending to pop my SB processor into a test server when Ivy comes out and reuse everything else on my board. Seems the most cost effective solution for me right now. Or that's what I'm telling myself to justify the new proc. :)

Help me pick a CHEAP mb to use as a storage server.....

Shop around. You can find them for $20 if you look. No reason to use an IDE DVD drive in this day and age, and then you're left with the HDD. Honestly I'd probably just junk that, too.

This. I'd grab one of your case fans, plug it into the CPU fan header, and start up your system to see if it has any issues spinning up. If not, get a new fan, if the case fan also has issues, it's a mobo problem. Fastest way to check.

I'd probably take the Noctua. The Kuhler's quiet 'til you crank it up, but it gets noisy when it's running full tilt, and if you're OCing, you'll be doing that. What I don't know is whether it'll get quieter if you maybe replaced the fans? I'd be interested if anyone else here's gotten lower...

Jaguar to be upgraded with Bulldozer

Honestly, for a while I've been figuring the only real use for Bulldozer was going to be HPC and virtualization. And I'm still interested in how it does as a VM solution. But for the desktop? Probably only in very, very specific applications will it be worth considering.

BIOS: Update or don't update?

The Asus boards also have a recovery option for if the flash goes bad, you copy the BIOS to a USB key, and there's a way to make a board with a bad BIOS automagically pull a replacement off the key. I'd need to look up exactly how you do this, but I know the option's there.

Anyone use closed loop watercooling on their CPU? ie Corsair H50

Also worth noting that the better closed loop coolers do do a comparible job to the best air coolers, and you can fit them in a smaller case. I couldn't fit a big Noctua in my case if I wanted to, but I can fit an H2O 920 in there no problem.

(why) should I wait for Ivy Bridge?

I'm planning on building a VM farm in the near future, and I'm waiting to see what Valencia brings to the table before I spring for the system. I'm far from convinced Bulldozer will be worthwhile for consumers, but I'm hopeful for it as a server platform.
