Poineer 16x DVD vs. Toshiba 12x DVD

I have the Pioneer slot-load 16x and it gets pretty loud when accessing discs. I don't mind the noise, though. I love this drive. Haven't tried the Toshiba yet.

StandBy in WinME???

If the machine is the host for an ICS setup, it won't go into standby because it is being used as a network resource by the other computers. Even if the other machines are idle, they still have an active network connection to the host. If you put this machine into standby, the other machines...

Can I RMA a hard drive for having bad sectors ?

Both drives are still under warranty. If I dropped them (without leaving physical evidence on the drive, of course) won't they be able to tell that it has been exposed to severe shock? A lot of manufacturers don't cover excessive shock.

One is a Seagate U2W and the other is a Maxtor 6.4 IDE.

Can I RMA a hard drive for having bad sectors ?

Hi all, I've got a couple drives that have bad sectors in them. The drives can run just fine, but the idea of having bad sectors is not very appealling. Will the manufacturers let you return these for replacement or repair for that reason? Do different manufacturers have different policies...

How good is Seagate with RMAs?

Their website asks you to do a test on the drive. If your drive fails, then you can RMA it. You do it via e-mail and they send you the RMA #. Turnaround for me is less than 10 days after I send it. Make sure you pack the drive according to their specs.
