Thanks for the info. I did notice it was running at full memory timings, and according to that, AMD said the core clock goes up to keep it stable. Very informative. The only reason I noticed was b/c of how much louder it was. It's almost nuisance in a desktop environment. May have to look...

I recently purchased a stock 7970, and decided to hook up my HDTV as well as a monitor. When in single display mode, my temps run at 40C idle, voltage is 800mV, and the core clock is 300 mhz. When selecting duplicate displays, the clock goes to 500 mhz, voltage to 1150 mv, and temps to 60C...

SSD and Streaming Video

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll monitor the writes in SMART and see how bad they are. Worst case, I'll make a dual-boot Linux install and use that for Sunday Ticket.

ssd what to do, what to do?

Depends on how soon you will be upgrading to a SATA III motherboard. As far as buying a SATA II SSD, the only choice is the Intel 320 series, imo. If you plan on upgrading to SATA III soon, then the choice gets pretty murky. The Intel 510s are just so much more expensive than competitors that...

Vertex 3 firmware

It seems things have changed since I last looked. I guess they pulled 2.09 unless absolutely neccesary. Back when I had the drives, neither 2.06 or 2.08 helped me. I never tried 2.09 before returning them. Both 2.06 and 2.08 were basically shots in the dark by OCZ to fix all the issues...

You should probably update to the newest firmware. 2.06 and 2.08 were minor fixes that didn't really solve anything. 2.09 does have a performance impact on some systems, but also solved most of the outstanding issues. I'd rather have a drive that is a bit slower but doesn't cause the system...

SSD users, do you have your user profile and appdata folder on another drive?

Something that can eat up a lot of writes is streaming video. How do you minimize that? Is that all held in browser cache?

Thanks for catching that. It would explain my issue. I think I'll give the a try since they seem to be most people's choice I really want to have faith in Windows 7's tool, but I've had so many issues with system restore in the past.

Ah. I thought software RAID meant when you did it within Windows. I'm on an AMD board. Worst case is I have to reinstall Windows. I've also got an image with the native Win7 program

It's a hardware RAID from with the motherboard option ROM. The array is visible from within Windows, just not when using the bootable CD or USB recovery CD they have you create. Seems like something with my setup since neither Paragon nor Acronis see it.

I have a RAID0 set up, and have had trouble with both Paragon (free) and Acronis (trial) not seeing my array when using the USB bootable media. Is there something that will work from within Linux that can image my array? Is the full version of Acronis better than the trial version?

But I guess I can infer that this write throttling is limited only to Sandforce. A secure erase of C300/M4 or 510/320 drives will bring them back to fresh, even if you've been writing heavily.

Thanks for the link. It's a very strange feature of the SF drives Why not just let you do what you want with your drive? I don't think anyone warranties used up NAND, so what's the point? Is that the only test out there? Intel controller seems to avoid it, but what about Marvell?
