I just picked up the MSI R9 290x Gaming for $350cdn at ncix. Pretty good deal! I love price drops. That card is probably available for $300us somewhere. It is crazy cheap when you compare to a 970 that are running at $420cdn at the cheapest.
So the prices are coming way down to clear stocks...
It all depends at what price point they are at. I just bought a 290x for $350cdn thanks to MSI rebates. Not bad for a card that was $750 for most of 2014.
I don't think the new 380x cards will be less than that. Probably about $400.
In addition to what I posted before, I never answered the question.
Haswell or ivy bridge?
I say if you are buying new get a haswell and a z87 mb.
But if you don't have the budget find someone upgrading from sandy bridge and get a good deal on a still blazing system with big OC potential. 6...
I was faced with the same question.
I Had a Q6600 oc'd to 3.2 for 5 years. I waited for haswell. Then I decided to buy a second hand mb, ram, i5 2500k sandy bridge. $275. All I had to pick up was a case and cooler. Corsair R200 and a CM hyper 212 EVO. $100. Everything else I had. So a high...
He should try the going the OC route with the q9550.
I still run a g0 q6600. Good processor at 3+ ghz. It still keeps up pretty well. Not oc'd i5 2500k fast. But fast enough to play at 1080p on my 560 ti in mwo and wot. If you have an ok cooler try it. You won't hurt anything if you don't...
I 3rd the ms sidewinder x4. It is the king of the cheap membrane boards.
I would go for the $67 coolermaster quick fire rapid. Very high quality build mechanical kb.
My oldest working pc is a 91-92 Mac classic.
My normal use pc is a q6600 running at 3.2ghz. I built it in 2008 as the core2 family was phasing out to the first gen i7 chips. Still works like a champ. I did upgrade the graphics to gtx560 ti, and had to put an ssd in once it got to $1 per gb.
I...
I'm pretty sure the Tt mekka g1 and the steelseries g6v2 are the same unit with different stickers.
I went blackwidow ultimate with a long replacement plan. I wanted mechanical, macros and backlighting without looking like a toy.
After the 1.3.2 update the complaints really went down across the tech web. The current firmware is 1.3.3.
I would get the force gt. it has synchronous memory which maintains performance better when the drive gets filled. It's only a bit
more than the force 3, which is asynchronous.

Also be sure to unplug your monitor from power. Sometimes displays need a reset too.
Also try hitting source button on the display to get to the dvi input.
They seem to be equating a gpt booting drive (as opposed to the traditional mbr) drive with uefi. I'm not sure that is a 1:1. I'm pretty sure I have run large (over the 2.x tb limit) gpt boot drives with windows 7 systems on a board with a regular bios. Of course it was a board with gpt support.
I have never seen a uefi option inside the win 7 install.
Maybe you have this confused with ahci drive controller mode? In which case, make sure you have ahci turned on so your drives perform up to their potential.
That number sould be the amount that is kept from the user completely. You just partition the 'whole' thing. The over provision is already hidden from you.
For instance, my force gt 120gb partions to 111gb if I use 100% of the space.
There won't be a need, gaming wise, for a system with more than 4gb until games are compiled as 64 bit executables. Until then the piggiest games are still limited to addressing 2gb in the Windows world because they are 32 bit programs.
This won't change until MS starts releasing versions of...
I use a rig with a q6600 @ 3.2/ 4 gb ddr2/ gf gtx550 ti as my primary gaming pc.
It's still plenty fast.
I might upgrade in a year. It's really strange for me not have the urge every 2 years. But I've been running this rig for 3 years.
I run my Q6600 on my gigabyte ep45-ds3r at 3.2ghz at stock voltage. It will do at least 3.4 ghz, but I only have a Freezer 7 Pro on it for cooling and the peak temps were getting too close to Intel's spec limit.
If I ever get a corsair a70, freezer 13 pro, or the like I'll try to push it.
I...
This is the same conclusion I reached 4 months ago. My q6600 is doing me fine. I run it at 3.2ghz because I only have an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro. I clocks up to 3.6, but I need better cooling to do it on a sustained basis.
I find that this 2007 processor puts out phenom2 965 speeds so I...
