Check CPU time from Task Manager to see if they come close to matching because I do not know how SETI calculates time. Check if priority is set above 'low' for SETI. You have hyperthreading? You need a full idle core to get good data, perhaps that is the reason despite BOINC set to 50%. Hey...
Hi! It should be on wayback here (https://web.archive.org/web/20020210123651/http://www.teamlambchop.com/bench/benchfile.htm) I also have it on my Mega cloud drive in youtube description.
and I have taken a screenshot of what it shows in the GUI.
Yes commandline version runs faster, more...
Rosetta seems to load the units in the cores harder than other tasks besides probably Prime95 so perhaps it is taking it over the edge. Way less load maybe some cores turbo higher and causes a crash that way too. Efficiency mode I have heard is reasonable at slightly reducing clocks but cutting...
Markfw i see you on the stats page of WCG awesome setup. Just 1 of your identical machines? I would just try KISS, reduce the CPU turbos a bit or try 105W efficiency mode just to see if you can establish simple stability. The way you have it setup, if Folding & WCG do you have cores dedicated...
Around the same time SETI@home was released, there was Parabon! Biological science Work Units long before Folding Or World Community Grid was a thing. At first they offered financial compensation but then stopped that. Did not stay active for very long but another piece of history.
D2OL...
Something near and dear to me, Seti@home Classic before the BOINC days. ArsTechnica was a huge contributor to SETI classic with their 'Team LambChop' website complete with benchmarking stats. I found the site via the WayBackMachine. Not to mention contribution to early Work Unit caching...
600M on WCG in BOINC points units (on their site, points are ~7x higher .. 4.6 billion).
400M on SiDock
40M on Rosetta

Farm is mostly made up of used Skylake-class Optiplex and Prodesks. Oh boy...
FAH can use help with CPU-only projects! According to their project stat page (https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats) they always seem to have about 1.2M WUs for 0xa8 (CPU). I have about 21 6-cores boxes for that cause.. half the cores for FAH, half for BOINC using ProcessLasso.
And here is a video of a Seagate ST6000DX000 6TB 7200RPM drive making very loud seeking noises when experiencing slow tilting side to side or any vibration at all.
https://youtu.be/z5svvkkHr0Y
Same behavior with a 3TB 5900RPM Seagate desktop drive. So I am sure it is loud on purpose, for a...
Here is a video of completely disabling Windows Update in Windows 10 Home edition, though most of you probably already know you can.

@Insert_Nickname, See post #55, is 'driver software' software associated with the drivers, or the drivers themselves too?
@VRAMDaemon, Don't know if drivers are blocked by delaying updates. Make regular backups and disable the Windows Update Service when you aren't in a position to easily...
It will allow people to use Win10 who don't mind not getting security updates and don't want any new features without giving permission but I here ya. Perhaps someone will develop a program that will delete updates you don't want (or block) after they've downloaded so it can't install but what...
I wonder when DX12 will come out. Win10 10240 comes with 11.1.
How is command prompt and Powershell improved? I haven't used PS much but with Command Prompt it has 'paste' like in windows 7 and 8 (whenever it started to have that, forever?). 1 of the things I hate about Command Prompt is that...
OK, so I have build 10240 Pro and as I've said in a previous post I think, I've disabled Windows Update simply by disabling the service. Someone on an article said there was some timer that would turn on Windows Update or deactivate Windows so I set the time to September 2015 for a few days now...
Yes on Windows 10 Pro, lol but they abbreviate applications as app and information as info now!
EDIT 7/27/2015; hmm, well Windows 8.0 says app and info as well. Guess that screenshot by escrow4 was Windows 7.

Totalcommander is a good workaround. It probably uses the Win32 API (What else?). I wish an Explorer plugin would lift the limitation but it is probably a complex issue. QTTabBar is a cool plugin for tabs. Thanks.
EDIT...
Another issue I have is that Explorer (Windows 10 10240) still doesn't fully support file paths longer than 255 characters. Very easy to reach this limit with deeply nested files and folders. It will give error messages when I manipulate within these. It is nearly 2016 and 255 chars is less than...
Windows 10 only offers 49 different colors for the color of the Start Menu and the Task Bar (running build 10240). None of which are light grey colors, like I had in Windows 8.0. Why didn't Microsoft give us a full RGB color spectrum choice of what color we want our start menu to be and our...
I've tried it in an external enclosure as well, it isn't vibration between the drive and it's mounts. I am RMAing it since I have already gotten the recertified replacement drive, a 750GB Momentus XT. It's much quieter even when gently tilting, though still louder than when left alone.
I...
Here is the SMART report that I queried today. 'g-sense error rate' is '0'

My laptop's aren't set to sleep when the lid is shut so the hard drive is still spun up ready to take read/write requests.
Do you think that is torture? I don't. A mobile drive is expected to handle slow angular changes without a problem. If what I did would cause a head crash then I don't know how laptop drives survive. Heck, you could do that to a desktop drive and it probably won't care. A mobile drive certainly...
Hey guys,
So I have a G50VT laptop and have a 240GB Crucial M500 SSD. The laptop has the SATA 2 interface.
The drive seems a bit snappier compared to the Intel X25-M G2 it replaced but I don't understand why the HDtach is so low.
Same behavior with firmware mu03 and mu05 (latest)...
I have had 3 different hybrid drives from Seagate now. One, a 500GB Momentus XT, 2nd a 500GB thin SSHD and now a 3rd, a 750GB Momentus XT.
On the first one, when I got it, it was quiet all the time. But then as it aged it began to exhibit loud seeking noises when it was seeking while the hard...
Some background; http://lifehacker.com/why-calibrating-your-phone-or-laptop-battery-is-importa-1437221519
Basically there is circuitry in your laptop battery that keeps a value of the measured capacity of the battery, and other data too, not sure what all is stored besides this and model#...
I wonder if those updates for the UK government will be leaked for all to use :).
They have a contract with Microsoft for updates until April 7th 2015 I think
I am not a metallurgy specialist so I don't know all the technical terms. I'm sure there is high strength (more expensive) steel that makes up the pillars and the door bars. The Charger (Challenger hasn't done that test?) does really well with the IIHS roof crush ratings at 21,762 pounds in...
Well, the Volt hack is simply a reflashing of ECU(s); software, so the engine can connect to the transmission at lower speeds and in addition to full electric motor power, rather than the stock behavior of just directly engaging at ~70MPH and faster for efficiency's sake (parallel hybrid mode)...
I wouldn't call low 20s to high teens MPG reasonable. The V6 is rated for 21MPG combined with the 5-speed auto, 23MPG combined for the 8 speed auto. It weighs about 3700 pounds, about as much as a Chevy Volt and a bit heavier than a 2014 Accord hybrid.
The Volt, when hacked, can do 0-60 in 5.5...
" Core size can't be increased much more without hitting diminishing returns."
But luckily transistors are still shrinking so we can have more powerful execution units in each die shrink? Except all these components being integrated onto the die and separate dies in the package (NB, memory...
I know the power consumption is much better and multitasking is much better and it has some new instructions and a good onboard GPU whereas a Penryn has no Integrated GPU or NB or memory controller and no 2nd die VRM and higher heat but Haswell's weakness is the single core performance over the...
Intel Ivy Bridge still isn't over 50% faster clock-clock than a 3MB/core Penryn CPU.
For instance my X9100 on my G50VT laptop overclocked to 3.5GHZ , 1.325V (!00% stable),
Super pi: 1m: 14.7s 2m: 34s
Ivy Bridge i5-3210, @3.1GHZ stock turbo;
Super pi: 1m: 12.7s 2m: 29s
So my 2009...
Plz state your operating system and what type of partitions you have on the external drive. As VL said, make sure it is GPT not MBR.
Screenshots would be helpful for when error messages/reports come up.
The Scorpio black doesn't use that much more power than the Blue. Look at the spec sheets. 7200RPM for the win, don't settle for 5400RPM.
I would suggest the new 750GB Scorpio Black! Around 115-120MB/s STR on the outer tracks and around 60MB/s on the inner tracks.
