Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition 17.4.3 Release Notes

Did you mean Mass Effect Andromeda, by chance? Had to use some earlier version because the previous one caused severe stuttering.

    AM4 Motherboard Links

Regarding the Asus memory frequency support: Asus' own "Edgeup" blog states that all four boards support RAM frequencies up to 3200. The specifications for the PRIME X370-PRO, however list 2666 as the maximum. Makes me wonder which source is the correct one now. See an excerpt from the table below:

recommend me an AMD card pls?

I might be having low FPS expectations, but I haven't encountered a game which my 290x wouldn't run "perfectly" at max settings on a resolution of 1440p, including Star Wars: Battlefront, Battlefield 4, The Witcher 3 etc. I assume a 390(x?) would fair even better. But anyway, if I were looking...

    Need advice on r9 290x

I think the HIS card performed the best in closed case scenarios tested by Tom's Hardware a while ago, which is why I bought one and have been quite satisfied.

Going 1440p, need help and suggestions on panels please

Yep, the colour is amazing. Blows my other Asus monitors out of the water. I can definitely deal with the slight yellow bleed in a corner.

GTX 880 or Second GTX 780ti

You should really consider buying R9 290 or 290x cards for 4k - they significantly outperform their Nvidia counterparts at such high resolutions due to the wider memory bus and generally larger VRAM. Nvidia cards seem intentionally crippled for those cases.

Going 1440p, need help and suggestions on panels please

I'm pretty sure nothing can beat a Qnix in price. They're not perfect (only DVI-D and some light bleed possible), but for that price - a steal! Bought one recently and am very satisfied.

    2560 x 1440 resolution

Just bought a Qnix 1440p monitor to run it with a 290x and it works great. BF4 runs smoothly on ultra with 90° FOV.

Radeon R9 290x QUADFIRE (Hell yeah)

Having followed this thread since post one I'm quite astounded by the commitment on both your and AMD's side to solving the issue. You've obviously invested sizeable amount of money in this and have shown admirable patience and resourcefulness. Though I'm just as much if not even more...

    Find the Bottleneck

I play BF4 on my 8350 setup below on 1440p and do not have any CPU bottleneck issues what so ever. All 8 cores are at about 50-65% load during 64 player matches. That said, my target is 60fps since I have a 60Hz monitor. I'll take a close look at frame-rates during the weekend and will report...

    Replace 2 780ti Classified with 2 290x Used Reference

Yep. We might think of cryptcoin miners as the lowest sort of life-forms responsible for all evil in the tech industry (which, I'm still convinced, they actually are), but at least they are tech-literate people who know what they're doing and I'd definitely rather buy a card from a miner than...

thoughts on buying used graphics cards

Come to the EU, where gaming gear is still used for gaming and government conspiracy-theorists are still the crazy ones! Seriously, our prices were just around the RRP all the time or even below that. There's no mining craze here.

    Replace 2 780ti Classified with 2 290x Used Reference

That's a good idea. To conveniently recycle my post from another thread about cheap mining cards: I'd definitely use this nice market opportunity if I were in your situation.

thoughts on buying used graphics cards

You do know that the cards aren't build by AMD but usually by the same partners that build Nvidia cards, right? AMD reference cards are built by Sapphire, if I remember correctly. Companies like MSI, Asus, HIS etc. build both AMD and Nvidia cards.

thoughts on buying used graphics cards

I'd definitely disagree with that. The products are designed to run at 100% capacity for at least the duration of manufacturer warranty - anything else would be commercial suicide for the manufacturer. And since no manufacturer wants a reputation for bad products that break just after the...

thoughts on buying used graphics cards

Bought a used 5870 a few years back for a CFX setup which I just now replaced with a 290x. I did add an Artic Accelero cooler to it later, but only because the CFX setup got quite hot with reference coolers when OC'ed. In shot: my experience with used graphics cards has been rather good. All...

    Buying GPU help decide!

Oh, my apologies, did not notice you're looking for "non X" cards. I'd go for the XFX one in that case. They're all so close to each other in both performance and price that you can leave it up to "gut feeling" or just aesthetic choice, if you will, an you'll have a great card no matter which...

    Buying GPU help decide!

I actually bought a HIS R9 290X iPower IceQ X² Turbo and I'm very satisfied with it. It ranked above both XFX and Sapphire in closed case testing done by Tom's Hardware German team. Since I have a very well cooled case, I intentionally went for a more open heatsink design. Can only recommend...

    Sapphire 290 Vapor X [Review]

And now they just have to release the 290x version with 8GB VRAM and I'll be happy.

Which GPU brand have the best cooler?

As seen here, the DiCU II actually seems to be the worst custom cooler when tested inside a closed case (almost all review benchmarks are made in open-air setups). Sapphire, MSI (lightning) and HIS seem to offer the better options.

Sapphire to launch Radeon R9 290X VAPOR-X with 8GB RAM

I think what lavaheadache meant was that it's based on the 290x with 4GB, so it could reasonably increase VRAM only in steps of 4, I suppose. Just like the GTX cards from Nvidia do it in steps of 3. Might be wrong, though.

Sapphire to launch Radeon R9 290X VAPOR-X with 8GB RAM

I bought my first Radeon HD 5870 as it came out in 2009 and was the fastest graphics card in the world - at that time, 1GB of VRAM was more than enough for any game. About 2,5 years later, I bought another cheap 5870 for crossfire, as 1GB VRAM was what the best looking games required. Another...

Sapphire to launch Radeon R9 290X VAPOR-X with 8GB RAM

YEP! Do want this. Seeing how larger resolutions are on the rise, and modded Skyrim uses 3+ GB now, 4GB most likely won't be enough after a year or two. PS - would be quite the leap in VRAM from my 1GB 5870ies. :D

AMD Embraces Gamers With AMD Rewards Program

If I remember correctly, Thief and Titanfall are on that list as well, along with video cards. I definitely don't mind running the program in background for a chance to (eventually) get something like that.

AMD Embraces Gamers With AMD Rewards Program

I started using this because it ninja-installed itself with the latest AMD drivers at that time and I'm quite surprised to admit that I like it far more than I thought I would. Reminds me of good old Xfire days...only now I get points towards new games or actual gaming hardware! Not sure how...

    Custom R9 290/290X Reviews/Availability/Listings thread

Though I'm sure the 780Ti is a good card, I can't imagine why anyone besides a coin miner would care about watt/performance. Surely you have the few disposable cents for electricity if you buy a 600€ video card - you wouldn't care about the fuel mileage when buying a Maybach.

    My latest Ultra beast collection

Might I suggest a Lumia 1020 to do the cards some justice? :D EDIT: Damn, since someone managed to beat me to it, I'll suggest to OC and watercool it on top. Back on topic though, is there a particular reason besides availability as to why you didn't get a Sapphire Tri-X, which seems to be...

[HardOCP] Asus DC II 290X max overclock versus GTX 780ti max overclocking review:

Again, noise and heat are not an issue with aftermarket 290/x's. I do agree on the price, which is why I'm waiting for the supply/demand to level out and the prices to drop to expected levels.

[HardOCP] Asus DC II 290X max overclock versus GTX 780ti max overclocking review:

I don't think anyone's trying to convince you to buy a reference R9 290/x anymore. The custom cooled cards are mostly quieter than a 780Ti and very well cooled.

    MSI R9 290X Lightning

With modded Skyrim using 3GB at 1080p today, I can't immagine 4GB being enough in about two years. To get the most out of a card's lifetime, I'd buy a 290x now and another one for CFX about 2 years later when they'll be cheap, to get another one or two years out of them. Hence the need for a...

    27 inch 1080p

I'd probably get a 27'' one, even for 1080p. Though if you are willing to spend a little more, there are some great Korean imports on Ebay with 27'' and higher resolutions. I think there's a pinned thread about those here on AnandTech.

    27 inch 1080p

I use a 24'' 1080p monitor myself, but I bought a 27'' 1080p monitor for my wife, since she specifically wanted one (apparently, size does matter :D ). I played a few games on it to check the effect of reduced pixel density and didn't find it too jarring. Some very specific effects or areas did...

which is best bang for buck ultra settings?

Or, since he specifically mentioned BF4 as the main reason for upgrading, it very well might be worth considering an AMD FX 8320 for that, since the Mantle API is supposed to bring significantly improved multithreading support. Though he'd need to get a Radeon HD 7xxx video card to take full...

Is the power usage of a GPU a major factor in your purchase decision?

With the launch of AMD's 290x and a few years ago Nvidia's GTX 480, heated discussions about performance-per-watt and general power usage were held, or are still on-going in case of the 290x. This has always puzzled me because I've never felt that the power usage of my gaming PC is of any...
