i'd have to agree nvidia is rather transistor happy, just like amd. ps: last i checked amd is the brute force not intel. don't quote 3dnow to me, it was an excuse for a weak fpu and not to mention it is largely a rehash of mmx.

Best video card for Linux and Win2k?

matrox or nvidia. both companies proved good linux support. i'm not too sure of matrox's win2k performance.

Wath videocard should I get?

your 500mhz cpu won't make good use of those high powered cards, i suggest you pick up a radeon 32 meg ddr or sdr with a rebate or go for the geforce mx.

the gamecubes gpu runs at 202 mhz, i believe. the embedded sram is synced, to my knowledge. so the 200mhz 1t-sram is feasible. as for how many watts this thing will need, i'm not sure but a hybrid design could be done. where the embedded memory uses a slightly lower micron process...

Help me spend my money!

the only reason the nvidia chips haven't been recommended is simply due to the bad 2d image quilty, 3dfx's isn't that great either. ati is your best bet, you'll want sharp text and good refresh rates.

2 things. first, this sram isn't running at the 450 mhz the xeon is pulling. second, the gamecube uses a much larger embedded sram pool. still over the top? one last thing with tile rendering i hear there is a problem with alpha blending due to "state changes", mind elaborating on...

V5 5500 PCI vs. AGP--performance difference? (Dave, hoping you'll answer)

i believe the performance difference is likely significant. if you use pci you have a lot less bandwidth, not only that there is more latency especially when other devices are using the pci bus as well. as for using both vid cards it shouldn't be to big a deal.

me thinks going full tile rendering isn't worth it. hyperz with framebuffer tiling would be better. you could get some hsr from the hyperz and with a the use of embedded memory and schedeulling, make effective use of memory bandwidth. powervr and traditional renderers seem to be to messed up...

well supposedly the verrite4400 which was the never released rendition chip had 12megs of embedded dram. the bit boyz are talking about 8 megs. personally i think having a memory hieracry + efficient rendering would be better. let me explain. -you have a gpu, on which you have some cache...

Radeon w/Win2K and A7V Asus : Anybody`s work?

win2k has some problems with the via agp implementation. recently ms came out and made a statement sayin they screwed up. in any case, you might wanna look around for a patch for win2k, also install the latest via 1000in1 drivers. i mean 4in1.

THE HELL with the geforce 2 pro/delux/ultra/ unlimited/ supreme or some other BS?

nv20 isn't due till spring of 2001. ati, matrox and 3dfx with it's joke of a card, the v5 6k will be out by jan/dec. to all those ppl who think the v5 6k rocks, i don't care what you say, it sucks ass. it's too much money not enough power.

well the nv20 is not due out this december. there was no hope of it coming out this december. it's slated for this spring. the radeon 2, g800 and v5 6000 will be the new comers. though the v5 6k is a joke. =) specs for the g800 were mentioned about a month ago.

Low Quake3 scores with Geforce2 MX

perhaps you didn't uninstall your previous vid card drivers, which are sitting around forcing vsync. you could mess about in the registry, or reinstall you os. me i don't really care about reinstalling os's so it's not really a big deal and it's usually the fastest way of doing it.

the nv20 will be out in march or later next year. as for the v6k why buy an obsolete card. hrm, let see it might have killer fill rate, but it can't do half the affects that you'll need for future games. i wonder if it can do dot, it still can't do trilinear last i checked --stub function...

what are you virtual memory settings? if you set them yourself, make sure they are at least 256 mbs. try getting the latest bios and what not for your mobo. if you did that recently, i suggest you go into your bios and turn off all of the shadowing.

BE6-2 and GF2 bootup black screen problems

well update to the latest bios, on both mobo and vid card. btw turn off all the shadowing stuff when updating the bios. then update your vid card drivers. i'm not sure if it'll work, but here is hoping. a friend has the same problem and no it has really gone away.

you konw i MADE a similar config, on a celeron 300a@333 --didn't quite make it-- and a banshee with 64 megs ram. well on the longest yard which i believe is a pretty nast level if you're and one end looking at the other in a multiplayer game. lots of overdraw and a fair bit of textures. well...

Frame Rate Swings

well that's a problem with the ut engine not any vid cards. though me thinks the radeon won't have too much problems with ut for the most part. ati's dx drivers are quite good. as for gf's they've had problems with ut quite a fair bit. i'm not sure if it's been fixed as of yet.

Cel2 ocs under win98 but not 2k

alright folk i have a friend who picked up an asus cuv4x and a celeron2 566. at 1.65 he can't do 850 under win2k, if he takes the voltage any higher it stops working. however at 1.65 he can boot into win98 at 850 and run perfectly without any problems. is there something that win2k does that...
