Well, the MB apparently packed up (same symptoms as before) after a few days use. 2 days before it went kaput, my friend's brother, who had come from abroad, put the PC on - i think, sometime afterwards, he fiddled (purposely?) with the Bios and pressed F7 (load optimised defaults). BSOD. Next...

Thanks Ketchup. I feel that, as MB and psu have gone bad, something has to be done/tried (“do something!” :) ). I selected the MB for my friend; psu- I had also given him choice (albeit a 10usd expensive ) of another psu-oem seasonic. About Antec psu- it was recommended in whirlpool.net.au...

system memory multiplier (bios)-4.00C. Fsb -102. Cpu V (bios)-1.287v. PC boots. Corespeed-1543 MHz (cpu-z). Fanspeed:2100-2200rpm. Cpu temp:38-39 deg. C (at nighttime-cooler ambient). Fsb:ram-1:2 (cpu-z). Will try lower cpu voltage.

Thanks Ben90 and sm625. Rebooted- put c1e on and reduced cpu v to 1.337v (1.375 is default) in bios ( fsb is 120 in bios but showing as 122.5MHz in cpu-z). Noted that cpu temp. and fan speed is same as before with c1e off and cpu volt. 1.350v-40 deg. C and fanspeed-2300 to 2400. sm625, pc is not...

Well, i tried c1e off in bios - did not help. Today tweaked fsb to 120 ( or 122) in bios- 2 times pc has booted to core speed 1836-1837MHz now. (cpu-z :1.344v, fsb-122.5) . fan is quiet (don't know if c1e is still off). Did not lower the cpu voltage in bios much (just 2-3 tabs of minus key)...

Pentium 4 530-3000MHz, G41M-ES2L,512M ram,onboard graphics.Just hate the cpu fan sound. Tried lowering the fsb to 100 (and other values between 100 to 200).Lowered the cpu voltage also. when pc starts, i hear a sound from dvd-rw (cycles) and intial boot(bios) takes a long time ;finally pc boots...
