Win7 PC locks up periodically. Will more RAM help?

The key symptom was slow load up after hibernation. On a 1Tb 2.5 inch Hd, your asking for very sensitive reads on the disk. 2.5 inch HD's are cheap these days and so is the trial version of Windows 7/8. Swapping it out with a clean install is the best way to narrow down the problem to...

Can someone recommend a good countertop water purifier?

My sister in law swears by the Dr. Merkola "10 stage" water filter. You can buy a tap adapter so that you can use it on your sink faucet. Even if you rent, you can always shut off your water and rig up a bypass although you probably shouldn't drill through your counter top, just leave the...

Are we moving towards a Wall-E type way of living?

It's not modernization that's the problem. It's that people with subpar genetic material procreate far easier than people who matter.

    Sudden loss of hearing wtf?

Your sinuses are connected to your ear. If you have congestion they can cause blockage to get into the ear cavity. I suggest taking a mucinex and seeing if that clears it up, it's done the trick when I've had similar experiences.

    [PSA] the Indian caste system

While it definitely had it's mis-use and issues in it's application, the caste system in it's theory is amazing in it's foresight to understand the complexity of society and have a clear upwards trend in the development of successful communities. In retrospective comparison, it's bears some...

who do you think the most unique president was?

Unique by it's definition cannot be placed on human beings. If you aggregrate the lowest common denominator (A bunch of Chinese, indian, Mexican, or white pople are less differentiated) It's unlikely that a president will fit into the category. Let's ask a better question. Which president...

HELP - MB/CPU Upgrade for BF4 - AMD or Intel - Budget Conscious

I believe the newer FX cpu's don't experience the same bottle neck as the previous ones. If you are budget conscious, you'll enjoy the savings that AMD has to offer (as well as on the motherboard) and can throw the money into memory or a larger SSD which definitely have a larger performance impact.

    Ditching the Optical Drive?

Optical drive is a waste of a SATA and power connector for me. Also annoys me that I have to pull a power connector way up (on my full size tower) and lose the second plug. The last 10 times I've installed Windows, I've done it from a flash drive, and once you experience that, it's a pain to...

Green goo to crude oil in an hour...

The world's oil reserves are largely understated, if not for the effect that they have on prices. The issue we have with energy is that demand is oversubscribing production capabilities when looking at the preferred consumption method. Natural gas is a good fuel for us to use in the long...

A couple things. 1. I'm tired of this whole "Asian" being used on 3/7 of the whole world population. Indians are not Asians, and in Texas, Standardized test scores for whites included Indians. Why? The Whites (in the school district admin) didn't want to seem as stupid. There are several...

    In defense of "Bulldozer"

    Amazing Bang-for-Buck? AMD Athlon II X4 631

    In defense of "Bulldozer"

I too made a similar comparison, counting each model as a core. Unfortunately the issue is that even at 32nm, the die space taken up by the core is massive. On the G34 socket, AMD does have an Opteron that is 12 core (6-module) chip, but that core is literally a rectangle rather than your...

AMD is slated to ship Bulldozer this week. I expect that we should see performance numbers next week. On both fronts (Intel and AMD) you will see a price adjustment. The other aspect of building an AMD machine is you can usually get a cheaper motherboard ~$50-$60 cheaper from my experience...
