    Portable Pooper

I'm not a boater, but I would have thought one of the advantages to being on the water would be making the sea your toilet. I mean, the fish do it. The whales do it. Even the noble dolphin poos in the ocean. And they're the second most intelligent species on Earth, so who am I to judge?

Gadget Getters! AMEX Cardholders: FREE Lifetime ShopRunner Membership ($79/yr. value)

You know, I tried a bunch of stuff and had just about given up on getting things to work correctly. Then, on a whim, I thought, "I wonder if the two login methods handle the password field differently". This really shouldn't happen, but I thought what the heck. My original password was a...

[Dead] Seagate 4TB HDD $139.99 FS @ TigerDirect

If you scrolled up on the page you linked, you would have seen that Seagate 3 TB and 4 TB drives were included: In fact, if you read the Backblaze article itself, you would find that they claim the 4 TB Seagate to be one of their preferred drives to buy for their storage pods. It doesn't have...

[Dead] Seagate 4TB HDD $139.99 FS @ TigerDirect

Also, if you don't mind jumping through the hoops for a Total Defense rebate ($60), you can get a bundle with the 4TB Expansion drive, which has the ST4000DM000 inside of it. I bought this a couple weeks ago and shucked the HDD out of the enclosure. I stress tested it and it seems to be doing...

Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB SSD at Amazon for $179.99 (480 GB for $279.99), FS.

That's true, you would need another cable to transfer your previous install. It would be easy to do in a desktop. Are you using a laptop? If that's the case, you might be able to use the CD/DVD bay temporarily. Otherwise you will need either eSATA or USB. I like to use a hard drive dock for this...

Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB SSD at Amazon for $179.99 (480 GB for $279.99), FS.

Amazon has the Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB SSD on sale for $179.99, which is a heck of a deal. EDIT: I just noticed that the 480 GB model is also on sale, for $279.99.

    WD 3TB Red - $90-110 AR, 2x @$200-220 AR

I saw a similar type of note on the $20 rebate and worried a bit about it, but it still came in the mail shortly after the $30 one. I think the note is just that there was no UPC attached, which would be abnormal for other rebates, but as this one is for a general purchase it isn't required.

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

I bought one as well and like it. Sadly, I'm not getting anywhere near those numbers as I'm still rocking a SATA2 motherboard. C'est la vie.

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

The SanDisk Extreme II is certainly much more expensive than the rest of the field, but the Seagate 600 Series is only around $10 more for 240 GB than the Crucial M500 last few times I've looked. I'd say that makes it the best deal.

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

Well, according to this obscure site I read recently, it looks like the Sandisk Extreme II and Seagate 600 Series are the way to go, with the Crucial M500 and Samsung Evo following closely behind. As for personal experience, I recently bought a Seagate 600 Series 240 GB SSD to replace an old...

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

That's a pretty nice price. Adorama is a highly regarded camera retailer. Probably second only to B&H. So I think they should be as safe as an eBay seller gets.

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

I suppose you could file this one under "warm", but Newegg has the Seagate 600 Series 240 GB SSD for $139.99 with promo code (EMCYTZT5382). Expires 01/07/2014. I think I might jump on it.

    WD 3TB Red - $90-110 AR, 2x @$200-220 AR

For a single drive system, there is no technical advantage, though the Red might last longer since it is designed for constant use. Also, the warranty is longer on the Red drives, I believe. I bought mine as a hot spare for my NAS which is already using 3TB Red HDDs.

    WD 3TB Red - $90-110 AR, 2x @$200-220 AR

I got the e-mail as well, and while I suppose the rebate is instant in that it requires no forms to be mailed, it will still take some time for the credit to arrive. Odd. I've got a Blue Everyday Cashback (the no annual fee one) and I've got plenty of offers, TigerDirect included. They...

    WD 3TB Red - $90-110 AR, 2x @$200-220 AR

I wondered about this as well. I believe he's referring to an offer on Amex's site. If you log in to your account, look for the "Offers for you" tab. Among the offers listed should be one for a $30 statement credit on a purchase of $100 or more at TigerDirect. I doubt it'll be instant. The fine...

Gadget Getters! AMEX Cardholders: FREE Lifetime ShopRunner Membership ($79/yr. value)

To follow up with my experience with ShopRunner's tech support: I sent them a detailed e-mail describing the problem above and they responded by saying I might be using the merchant credentials (even though I clearly stated I wasn't) and suggested I call their phone support. I called their...

Oddly, this is not working for me. I can log into the ShopRunner site without any problem, but when I try to sign in from the shopping cart of Newegg, it tells me that the credentials are wrong. I've checked and re-checked to be sure they are the same I use on the ShopRunner site proper and I...

    840 EVO 120 GB for $85, FS

It would help to know what retailer is offering this sale. From the looks of the promo code, my best guess is Newegg, but applying that promo code to the 120 GB 840 EVO SSD does not yield any discount at that store.

4tb WD Red Nas Drive $179.99

Basically, yeah, though I would say NAS (network attached storage) is more of a larger collection of devices beyond the hard drives. We used to call them file servers. For starters, you should compare enterprise-level SATA drives to SAS drives, since all SAS drives are by definition...

15gb free cloud storage with COPY (app)

How much data are we talking about? Depending on how much media you are backing up, the free solutions from the likes of Copy, Dropbox or Google might cover it. But you are willing to pay, so perhaps you have more. I would say that in regards to picking a company that will still have cloud...

Latest 11.6" Apple MacBook Air for $889

Here's where something from Citibank helps: Virtual Account Numbers. I've used this before to create a virtual account number for a site that might be a bit shady. Make the purchase with the new virtual number, then deactivate the number afterwards. Alternatively, you could use a pre-paid...

Use Google Wallet from you phone to get $15 off a Newegg purchase of $50 or more

I don't know if this applies to anyone, as Newegg can be targeted with their promotions, but if you're already going to buy something, it's worth a shot. Using Promo Code WALLET, you can get $15 off a purchase at Newegg of $50 or more, provided you use the Newegg Android app and pay via Google...

Coboc 1000ft spools of Cat5E/6 cable on sale at Newegg ($50 MIR)

Newegg has 1000ft spools of Coboc Cat 5E and Cat 6 cable on sale with a mail-in rebate for $50 off. The Cat 5E is normally $80, so it's $30 after rebate. The Cat 6 is normally $100, so it's $50 after rebate. I don't know anything about Coboc cables, but I imagine it's as good as the next...

    Western Digital WD Red 3 TB NAS Hard Drive - $139.99 - WD30EFRX - Amazon.com

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but it bears repeating. Newegg can't ship hard drives properly most of the time and thus the reviews are skewed for any model.

$10 Rosewill 45-piece Computer Toolkit (includes zipper case)

I bought a repair kit from Newegg a while back which has one of these and they seem to be in most kits. But I can't think of an instance when a normal computer nerd would use one. It seems like such a niche item to include in an otherwise generic kit. But perhaps I'm missing something.

Lian Li PC-Q25B for $70 after MIR and Promo code at Newegg

I believe the intent of this case is to be a sleek small form-factor NAS. In which case, neither front ports nor an optical drive justify their presence. And for this intent, it might be the best in show. As for motherboard ports, it's true that most top out at 4, but there are some which have...

Lian Li PC-Q25B for $70 after MIR and Promo code at Newegg

I paid nearly twice as much for the Lian Li PC-Q25B at Newegg a couple months ago, so suffice it to say that I'm a little annoyed at this sale. But perhaps some others might save some money on a very nice mini-ITX case. The list price is $119.99. The promo code EMCYTZT2927 takes $35 off that...

    COUGAR CF-V12HPB 120mm fan $10 shipped @ newegg

I asked this question in another thread with some skepticism reported, but went ahead with one of them mounted horizontally in a Lian Li PC-Q25B. I've been running it for about a month now and I have no complaints. One of the nice little touches is how carefully they sleeve all of the...

Lian Li PC-Q25B ITX case $80 AR AC FS

I'm not sure if that would fit in the given space, even with a thin fan. I think you'd block the PSU or some cabling. I went with the lowest wattage efficient PSU from a reputable manufacturer (SeaSonic 300ET), which gets complaints from some builders as having cables that are too short for...

Lian Li PC-Q25B ITX case $80 AR AC FS

I bought this when it was $120. It's a very well-made case. But there are a few caveats. You will probably need to use a stock cooler, since there are very few worthwhile aftermarket coolers that will fit beneath the power supply. A modular power supply would be nice to keep the cable mess down...
