Hi, I'm trying to figure out what Intel chip provides the best cost/value for a very budget PC I'm putting together. It will serve as either a HTPC or an office computer. Here is what I've got so far:
CPU Cooler: Rosewill RCX-ZAIO-92 54.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($22.98 @ Newegg)...
Based on everything I've seen, we're looking at up to 10% performance increases on the CPU side. Maybe mostly less once third-party benchmarks are run. So, if you already have a SB CPU and a decent discrete graphics card on a PC, is there any reason to get a Haswell chip?
That´s a fair criticism. It was the best comparison between the two I could find based on game resolution and settings since the above benchmark never actually compared Llano to Ivy Bridge.
The point I was trying to figure out is wheter IB integrated are coming "close" to the performance of...
Truth. It puts AMD's announcement that they may be going with arm as an indication of eventaul capitulation of x86 rather than a strategic shift for new markets.
Fair enough, I could not find any 3850 3870 benchmarks running the same games at 720 p so I guess that is an open question.
For me this is all interesting as I was debating whether to try building an IB computer in april, burning through some older games and then upgrading to discrete in 6...
Well just looking at farcry 2 from this article it looks like the A8 puts out 34.96 fps at around the same settings. The ivy igpu is putting out 33.47 fps. I would say a 1.5 fps differential is close, no?
Apologies in advance if I am missing something...
Assuming the benchmarks are accurate, then the article below is interesting as it provides actual gaming benchmark results. A couple of minor quibbles:
1. It would have been nice to see the fps for the more demanding games at low settings, just to understand the tradeoffs.
2. I with they...
The translation was because the leakers are blaiming this all on market conditions, which is nonsense. In reality, it´s because ultrabooks were priced too high to begin with because manufacturers thought they could get Apple´s margins without being Apple.
So for the poor ultrabook buyers...

Maybe no Ivy Bridge for mass market until June.
Translation: ultrabooks (overpriced wannabe Macbook Airs) have not been selling at the overpriced $1k price because most people just buy the ticker laptop with about the same specs for hundreds less. Since everyone is freaking out about the 30% haircut projected as soon as Ivy Brige comes out...
Do you guys think that the IG upgrade will be enough to run most current gen games at medium settings -- something like Skyrim, upcoming GTA V, etc? Im moving from a console and curious on whether I could try to squeak by on Ivys IG until I save enough to buy a decent discrete graphics card.
I'd say with the present day model of using underpowered chips to do mainstream computing for portability and low power consumption (mobile phones, tablets, netbooks) and highpowered needs being sent to the "cloud", the Core 2 Duo will avoid obsolescence for a long time. What people mean by...
Hello all,
This should hopefully be a pretty easy question. I'm thinking about saving a few bucks and some time by getting a refurbished i5 or i7 2nd generation with discrete graphics from one of the main manufacturers rather than custom building my own rig (I've mostly been a laptop person...
