Wait, so let me get this straight.
GK104 was never supposed to be the 'high-end' GTX, this was originally planned for the GK110. But because the cheaper to produce (and much better for business margins) GK104 is competitive with the 7970, it is now dubbed the '680'. So nvidia's true high end...
I'm a bit torn between the 2700k with Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z, or take the hit on a 3930k with Asus Rampage 4 Extreme.
The thing that erks me about the Extreme-Z is no gen3 support, and this is the reply I've received from Asus about it:
I run pretty high resolutions and settings, and the...
Why oh why has Asus not released a Gen3 version of any ROG board other than the tiny GENE-Z. I want an Extreme-Z Gen3. :(
Oh well, x79 is around the corner, might as well wait.
Quoted for truth. It looks like all the boards are touting Gen3 on their packaging and even on the boards themselves. So it's left to the CPU to take advantage of that now, but the functionality should be there.
On a side note, anyone else really disappointed with the new Asus x79 boards...

Check out this x79 board, and what it says on the box package. I would be very surprised if indeed it does not support it.
Well put. I will be waiting for a definitive SB-E review come launch. Signs still point to at least the mobos being PCI-E capable from photos we've seen (even if the CPU doesn't support it, future IB-E upgrade path?)
I think Battlefield 3 will take a big advantage from the 6-cores/12 threads...
What makes you say that? Ivy Bridge will only have marginal performance improvement. Most of its perks will be around the power-savings and its much improved on-board video.
Sandy-Bridge-E will have the same PCI-E 3.0, plus more cache/cores and quad-channel memory. How on earth do you figure...
i7 3930k is where the real action will be at, 6-core unlocked and half the price of the stupid $1,000 3960X for a mere 100mhz less speed and 2mbs of cache per core like current Sandy bridge instead of 2.5 (big whoop).
I'm in the same boat, BD was a flop.. and Asus doesn't have a Gen3 version of the Extreme-Z out, so I'm contemplating just waiting for x79. :/
But I've read rumours it's been delayed, and I don't want to miss SKYRIM, TOR, BF3 season.
I'm annoyed that they haven't released an Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z gen3, yet they released the small mATX version of it (the Gene-Z) in Gen3... what the hell Asus? Now that bulldozer sucks, this is seriously hampering my buying decision! :/
Here is the english subtitle version of the Donanimhaber review video: http://www.donanimhaber.com/islemci/haberleri/AMD-FX8150-islemci-incelemesinin-ingilizce-altyazili-versiyonu-yayinda.htm
I can't believe it, all the leaks and rumors were true.. it's a piece of garbage that's slower than an...
Yeah, the ROG boards have reviewed the best. I was also looking at Gigabyte, but their SATA performance is pathetic compared to ASUS (as is everyone elses).
You'll actually reach your maximum speeds on the Asus boards (~500mb/s if your running an OCZ Vertex 3), and they seem to overclock the...
Asus Gen3
Why on earth has Asus released Gen3 versions of lesser boards like the compact Gene-Z instead of the flagship Extreme-Z?
Does anyone know when/if a Gen3 Extreme-Z is coming? I really want a full-size board.
This is affecting my purchasing decision since I really want a fully...
I'm waiting for official reviews come the 12th. I'm hearing too many conflicting sides of the story. Is there a chance these 'leaked' benches have been somehow caused by AMD limiting the CPU in some way before the truth about its performance is revealed?
I'm still betting on an Nvidia/AMD style...
Your so sure of yourself. Wild speculation currently. Given the price point, and some of the more legitimate looking leaks.. it looks like BD will be very competitive with SB, while being a bit cheaper. There have been a lot of respectable people saying "this is what you will want for gaming"...
Sexy kit! That's the board I want too.
Man, I really hope BD delivers. I love that board's layout and the price is $100 cheaper than the damn Asus Maximus IV Z68 board (with the same features... go figure).
My C2D 775 mobo died, so been waiting to upgrade to this or SandyBridge-E... no...
Hmmm, suddenly I have hope for BD as my next purchase. I could use the $ savings..
Like seriously, why the hell does the Asus Crosshair V cost over $100 less than the stupid Maximus IV-Z68.. They both seem to have the exact same features..
Take that story with a grain of salt. AMD have already stated any of these 'benchmarks' (obviously not using final product, which is barely hitting mass production now) will not be an accurate representation of the final product.
