    Question faster than 144hz

If I was a professional gamer and my livelihood rested on reaction times, it might be worth the jump. Linus (tech tips) had a video where they were able to find a small benefit in gaming results (didn't watch it, just saw the summary). I certainly wouldn't bother to upgrade from a 144->240 if...

    Discussion Samsung Odyssey G9

I was using 27x16, but it hasn't been a problem yet losing vertical pixels. In most cases the extra width more than makes up for it as I can move windows to the extra real estate on the side. In VSCode I will full screen if needed and have two editor windows plus my terminal up. For other...

    Discussion Samsung Odyssey G9

I just had mine delivered this week, September build from Samsung store (discount program). No stuck/dead pixels that I can find using the R/G/B/Bl/Wh screens. No obvious QC issues, but I'm not a HW reviewer. I've never had over a 60Hz display, so I'm feeling quite spoiled. It's an excellent...

    Qualcomm presents the 845

Not sure why everyone thinks an 845 is going to be cheaper than x86. I see an Acer atom/Celeron 11.6" Chromebook for $129. What does the average 835/845 smartphone cost? How is Qualcomm going to be cheaper?

Intel unveils new family of AI chips to take on Nvidia’s GPUs - Previously known as Lakes Crest

Yeah I remember, people confused memory cell performance with SSD performance on CPU or interface bounded workloads.

    Recommend an "incremental" backup software

I like crashplan--I back up to my NAS. You can also backup (encrypted) to a friend/relatives computer offsite for free. And if you want you can pay them to back up to their cloud, they even have an option to manage the encryption keys locally.

    Optane memory

Today's Dell webpage (searching for XPS Tower). Cheapest system with SSD (256GB + 1TB HDD) is $1099 Cheapest system with Optane (16GB + 1TB HDD) is $749 Some config differences but my Dad doesn't game.

    Optane memory

Skipping the SSD + HDD and going with 16GB optane + HDD absolutely saved my Dad money on a Dell XPS system. I used the system, it felt like a fast SSD. If it was for me Id probably get a 1TB SSD (OS/applications) + HDD (photos/media).

    Optane memory

I found Optane useful for my Dad's new desktop. Greater than 1TB SSD is cost prohibitive for him and he's not proficient enough to have files/programs spanning multiple drives. The Optane makes his spinning disk system super responsive for booting and running his applications. It was a cheap way...

    Good laptop for college?

+1 on the ASUS ux305 recommendation. 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD. As long as you aren't into non-casual gaming, it's great. I got one for my inlaws, and it was snappy.

Where are the laptops? Why is Apple the only company with a brain?

For what it's worth, I've been using a Yoga2Pro I upgraded to the 7260AC for nearly a year. It works great!

Well, I did it. I bought an AIO. For Shame!

I was wondering why anyone would buy a desktop with less power than my smartphone @ $499... but no complaints at that price.

Is Intel's "Process Lead" Somewhat a Sham?

How would a process lead (density, power, yield, etc) not be beneficial (i.e. matter)? Of course many other factors are at play when it comes to winning sockets. Perhaps you meant the ranking of factors? I could see process technology ranking lower on the scale in highly integrated phone SoCs...

Why is it so hard to find a good laptop?

People who are looking at high end laptops understand that Apples are generally pretty fairly priced. That being said, I'm not sure you'd really notice the difference between a 15W haswell and a 28W haswell unless you game. Turbo on the 15W i7 is pretty good. At 15W, there are many decent...

Looking for a good source of notebook/ultrabook reviews, also Yoga 2 Pro?

I love my Yoga 2 Pro (other than the battery life). That said, if you want primarily a tablet it's not a good choice. It's too big and heavy. I bought mine because I primarily wanted an Ultrabook, but appreciate the versatility. I use mine in stand mode for watching live* football while...

Intels latest "NUC" - Part 2 - Is it properly balanced in bandwidth capabilities?

Hi Dave, it may help if you describe what you want the NUC to do for you.

Intel's latest "NUC" - HD Graphics - Seriously?

Yes, it has Thunderbolt. You can put your GbE at the end of your daisy chain. Or use USB GbE. Or buy a Wifi card. It obviously wasn't made for you--they sell GbE versions. Every product is not intended to be all things to all people. Sorry all, I'm feeding the trolls here--I'm done.

Intel's latest "NUC" - HD Graphics - Seriously?

It's a barebones SFF system and you are posting in a barebones forum??? I don't understand the issue. Personally, I would buy a GbE version and not purchase/use wifi. Bundled wifi would be wasting money for me.

Intel's latest "NUC" - HD Graphics - Seriously?

    - MacBooks have no ethernet and don't seem to be comical - Raspberry Pi also has a no ethernet model - NUC's do offer an ethernet model What's the problem? SFF obviously has tradeoffs.
  25. F

Intel's latest "NUC" - HD Graphics - Seriously?

Yes, this is the thunderbolt version rather than the ethernet version. A USB3 NIC would still be cheaper unless you were looking for a specific mounting/display which wouldn't prefer that. I mentioned this one because many people are using WiFi, since they tend to place these things in...

AMD Athlon Kabinis vs Pentium Baytrail Atoms

Can you link? I've never seen Intel go over TDP. What does an equivalent Kabini measurement look like using the same methodology? It is completely valid to prefer 25W over 10W CPUs in desktops, but I don't believe for a second these two CPUs are anywhere near each other in power consumption...
