    New Build - NTLDR Missing

I'll run a Memtest on it again but I've never had any issues with the RAM itself. I've since put the 2nd stick back in and it booted up into Win7 and is running just fine. This PC is being built for my parents so it really doesn't matter that much. Nope. It is 2x sticks of Kingston HyperX...

    New Build - NTLDR Missing

OK - I've taken out a stick of RAM, so that there is only 1, and then it progressed just fine. I got the drive formatted and Windows installed. I remember having to take out a stick of RAM the last time I installed Win7 on this board, although I've never actually had any errors or failures...

    New Build - NTLDR Missing

I picked up a USB-PS/2 Converter and now the keyboard is recognized everytime and I have no issues with pressing the key to get it to load from the DVD. However, and as I was stuck before, it still freezes on "Starting Windows". Yes, it freezes in the exact spot every time I load from the DVD...

    New Build - NTLDR Missing

It is a Biostar TH67B with an Intel G850 CPU, ATI card, 4GB of RAM with a Samsung 80GB HDD. Only 1 HDD and there are no other USB devices plugged in. Only bare bones minimum hardware is plugged in at the moment (only the PSU power cable, HDMI cable and USB KB are plugged in). As I said...

That's what I'm thinking. I'm going to head over to Fry's in a bit and pick up a keyboard and PS/2 converter just to be sure.

    New Build - NTLDR Missing

Yes, it is a USB KB. The KB seems to be intermittent if it works past the POST screen or not. There is an option in the BIOS for USB Legacy and it was Enabled by default. I moved it to 'Auto' and the next restart it detected the keyboard on the "Press any key to load from CD or DVD". It then...

    New Build - NTLDR Missing

OK - I will plug the HDD into my current system and see what I can do with that. Is there any particular software I should use to format it, or does Windows have the ability to format the drive?

    New Build - NTLDR Missing

The Win7 disk is brand new and has never been loaded onto another system. As far as I am aware, you can use the disks to install the actual software as many times as you want, as I have done that in the past with my main PC, but you can obviously only use the CD key one time.

    New Build - NTLDR Missing

You may be right. I've been using it for so long as a 2nd drive but I've got multiple drives at this point. I have verified and confirmed that the boot order in the BIOS is set as the DVD-ROM. However, after setting it as the main boot disk and I get the "Press any key to boot from CD" but it...

    New Build - NTLDR Missing

Per the disks question, I was referring to making sure the CD is readable and that the DVD-ROM is actually loading items from the disk. I checked both the disk and the DVD-ROM using my main PC. The Win7 disk is brand new.

    New Build - NTLDR Missing

So I'm building a 2nd PC using PC parts from a previous build after I upgraded my main PC. I got everything hooked up and built but when I boot up the PC I get the error message "NTLDR is missing. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart". The HDD that I am using was used as a 2nd HDD on my main PC...

New Gaming Build - Advice Needed

While you are correct that this is my "daily driver", and you make a good point about overall performance, the entire goal of me upgrading my PC was for FSX. I have a laptop solely for work and my desktop PC is perfectly fine for the work tasks I do on it. Since you stated that - strictly for...

New Gaming Build - Advice Needed

Correct - I have no SSD. My main HDD is my WD 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache. You believe it is worth the money over a better GPU? In retrospect, I am going to be buying another HDD anyway; as I am going to give my current PC to my parents and I want 2 HDD for my personal use. FSX uses a ton of...

Understood. Thanks. Another quick question: Do you think it'd be worth it to spend more on an SSD, to be used strictly for installing games, or use that money and get a better video card?

New Gaming Build - Advice Needed

Thanks. I'm intrigued by the Asus Z87-A, as I had the Deluxe. I was simply under the impression not to go "bottom of the barrel" on the motherboard I was going to OC on, but not that I was going to push any limits. It also appears that the -A has had some BIOS issues lately, and that Asus has...

New Gaming Build - Advice Needed

It's an invariable relationship. Sure, I can lower RAM timings and drive a higher overclock. However, I am now losing out on RAM speed. So now I have a higher CPU speed but lower RAM speed - what is the end result in performance? There is a magical point to lower RAM speed, driving a higher...

I believe I have decided to go ahead and go forward with the Haswell set-up. This is the hardware I have come up with so I welcome comments on the specific hardware. The hardware has already exceeded my budget so I can't go more expensive, but I can plug and play some items if there is...

Well, I'd like to think so but I'm not sure if they'd be worth any value. I could also build another PC but I really don't have use for another. The items I could sell out of my current PC would be: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop...

My budget was $500 but it quickly exceeded that. Each system above is sitting around $650. The parts I have listed above are the parts that I need. If parts aren't listed above than I will just be porting them over from my current PC (HDD, PSU, and Case).

    1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing. Gaming and Work 2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread $500-$600 3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. USA 4. IF you're buying...

    New Build on Budget PC!

After browsing and peddling around, here is the final build I finally ordered. I gave in and also got a new HDD and upgraded to a MB with SATA III, as well as the G850 CPU over the G840. BIOSTAR TH67B LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX Intel Motherboard SAPPHIRE 100287VGAL Radeon...

    New Build on Budget PC!

The Intel MB I have selected could hold all the way up to the i7 2600K, no? That will certainly be for the future, but if I can keep the same MB than there shouldn't be any harm in purchasing the 1600 RAM; as it is the same price as the 1333.
  27. E

    New Build on Budget PC!

Sweet. One last quick question: Is it worth buying DDR3 1600 speed RAM; instead of the 1333? Even though the MB can't handle 1600, I'd eventually like to keep the RAM when I decide to upgrade to another MB that can handle it. Thoughts?

Gaming PC build - *Is this an O.K. system*

A PSU can make or break (literally) your PC. It is the one thing you don't want to cheap out on. Quality and longevity is key. If the PSU dies or shorts out your MB (or other parts) it could potentially take your other hardware with it.

Gaming PC build - *Is this an O.K. system*

For me, that is typically the hardest part (only because you want to be careful with the CPU (to not crack the chip itself) and there generally isn't a lot of room to work with. No, the heatsink does not come attached to the CPU. The CPU will slide into the CPU slot on the MB. If you are...

I see. The only reservation I have with going that method is that I am really limiting my capabilities to play a new game; if I ever wanted to. Thanks. It sounds like I'll be leaning towards the Intel dual-core. Do you think everything will fit together nicely with my latest Intel set-up...

Gaming PC build - *Is this an O.K. system*

Build it yourself. It really is as easy as everyone makes it out to be. If you can work a screwdriver and plug in cords than you can build a PC. There are countless guides on the internet if you would like to read through one before going to a builder; and post any questions you have here...

    New Build on Budget PC!

My initial thought is $$. However, I'm not up to speed on FM1. Would a Dual-Core FM1 be better than an Athlon II X4? Considering the FM1 + MB is ~$50 more than the X4, I don't think it would be worth the additional cost to me.

Any thoughts on this AMD set-up? This doesn't include a PSU but that won't change regardless of the build. How would it perform against the Intel set-up prescribed here (my latest build)? Intel: Intel Pentium G840 Sandy Bridge 2.8GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80623G840...

Thanks! I'll have to take my old case apart to ensure there are places for a mATX MB. If so, I'll definitely go with a mATX MB; as I eventually want to get rid of my tower case and move towards a mATX case. How about this mATX MB? I like the additional PCI slots if I absolutely need them...

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll replace with the 5670. Regarding the motherboard you recommend, the problem with the one you link is that is a Micro ATX and my case is a full ATX. I do realize this motherboard doesn't have an IDE cable, but I will just purchase a PCI IDE add-on adapter.
