Where is the static coming from in my machine?

I think it's a fan or static coming from the satelite box audio but I am not certain. As I can't hear anything wrong with the case fans I am at a loss as how to track it down.

Well it started about 8 months after the new build - it's not a build issue I am pretty sure (been building mine and others for 20+ years now). But thanks for the reply :)

Stupid question of the year- upgrade mobo, new install needed?

What do I need to run M2 SSD please?

I am seeing through what I am reading that I need M2 + native NVMe which not even all Skylake boards support. It's not chipset, it's BIOS.

But what do I need to run the M2 drive - any latest generation motherboard? Or does the motherboard need to specially support M2? Just assume I am building a new system (I probably will) what would I need to be sure I had please?

Hi, I want to buy this new Samsung SSD. I am still running a Sandy Bridge with Z68 Mobo, but I was unsure if the Samsung SSD reviewed will slot into a standard PCI-E socket or whether I need a whole new system to run it. I seem to remember reading that M2 and NVMe are different things...

Will I ever upgrade my 2500k

I wonder if anyone can theorise on Skylake for us, given what we know? I have read what I can, but what I see is just optimizations in the pipeline, the same 4 cores and no mention of clock speeds, though one would assume it will be 4.6GHz on the K part as that seems to be where they are running...

Rumors of Intel buying AMD are being taken very seriously...

This is definitely true. Most people on this forum will be extremely knowledgeable specialist in x86 with years of history on x86 platforms. This is all changing and the future is a market of low power ARM type devices, hence Intel going hell for leather on the power down + performance devices...

About to RMA drive - but TrueCrypt cleared errors - still return it??

Which SSD ? Another thread...

Samsung would be my choice (just bought one so I have to say that ;)) I think all are good though. I own 2 of the Vertex 3's - no problems with them except I get concerned over the free space I have to leave. I have had them about 6 months.

SSD Caching drives - Do they cache just the boot drive/partition or all drives?

They can cache only 1 "volume", and this volume does NOT have to be the OS drive. This is my reading of it from much study. BUT.... if you hang on until Saturday I will tell you for sure, as I have a 3rd SSD in the post and am going to try to use it to cache my mechanical drive with my games on...

Do you mean partition the samsung, half scratch, other half cache drive? I think I might have asked about this before, but I wasn't sure if you could do it? I don't suppose you could give me a couple of pointers? I didn't know intel SRT let you cache a HDD that wasn't OS. Very interesting! :)...

Consumer SSDs (M4) for RAID-5 server use?

My worry would be the wear rate due to rebuilds. I have run fakeraid (intel chipset) RAID 5 and mdadm software Raid 5 on Linux and the thing that I notice is the heavy disk access. To me it always seems excessive and I worry for my HDD's (which are consumer ones). Rebuilds and verifications are...

WD "Red" drives? At Newegg.

I wouldn't buy a WD penny chew. Worst HD failure rate by far in my experience, and they always try to gouge the customer for extra money, which is exactly what this "pay extra to use a NAS" drive is for.

It depends on the garbage collection - from what I read most SSD's have good GC and Trim isn't as important as it gets hyped. My concern would be the wear rate on the SSD given all the backing up (reading) you are doing. In that case you might be better off going with Intel or Samsung. We don't...

Are you sure? After reading about it, Intel says that it can cache a drive as long as it's in raid with it. I believed too that it was only C, but I think we may both incorrect. I hope so anyway! No disrespect meant re your answer btw ;) Oh, and I should say, I am running a Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3...

Either of those options are expensive though. I think I will stick with the Steam switchout idea as that is really the only thing I can see that would send me over the 120GB ;)
