Atom X3/X5/X7 Windows device discussion thread

I just bought one too. It's a great tool for the stuff I use it for - browsing, email and writing (it runs Word and Scrivener just fine). My main gripe is the horrendous viewing angle on the monitor, but I like to think of it as a built in privacy screen feature! :)

Intel Broadwell Thread

Crashtech, not sure if you've noticed or still care, but it seems Gigabyte released a new Bios update that touts "better compatibility" for Broadwell and lists the broadwell cpus in its official CPU support list. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4978#bios

Crashtech, which Gigabyte Z97 board were you using? I too have a Z97 board and updated it with the lastest bios with the plan to install broadwell, but after reading about your bad experience, now I'm not so sure.

OEM versions are tied to the motherboard. Cheaper than full retail versions but technically they are meant to be bought by "system builders". Don't worry, you will only invalidate an OEM windows license if you change the motherboard. You can add graphics cards, hard disks and even change...

Question about CM Hyper 212 Evo

I have the previous model, the CM Hyper 212+, which also has the middle pin. The middle pin doesn't seem to fasten anything. At first I thought it was meant to hold the middle of heatsink cpu in place, but even with all 4 socket hole pins fully screwed down, I can still slightly swivel the...

AMD X6 1075T Overclock / Underclock Question

Yes, you're correct. I meant to say, and I forgot to add in my post, if he disables thermal throttling and the multiplier drops stop, then he can be pretty sure it's thermal throttling that's causing it and take the next step. Right now it seems he's not sure what's causing the multiplier drops.

AMD X6 1075T Overclock / Underclock Question

Please see the original post, the OP stated that CNQ is disabled. This is an old post, and I think the OP has left but I'll chime in. My hunch, as stated by Jovec, is thermal throttling. Go into BIOS and look for it. There should be an option to disable it.

Skyrim and AMD

I've gotten more CTDs since I updated Skyrim to version 1.3. Much more than when I was in version 1.2. The game would consistently last about 10 minutes before it either freezes or crashes. Sometimes I get the "Display driver stopped responding" message, sometimes I don't. I'm running a X4...

If you insist with that setup, why not go with a higher resolution monitor or multiple monitor? Put all that graphics power to good use, rather on a single 1920x1080 monitor.

You can get a 2500k + Z68 board + 8GB RAM for less than the price of a 3930k processor. Pair that setup with a single 6950 2GB card, and it will be more than adequate for gaming at 1920x1080 resolutions.

Same here. I was on the verge of pulling the trigger on a 2500k, but my x3 is still doing the job. I think I can wait until Ivy Bridge, and probably beyond!

Yeah, I have a x3 440 (default 3.0 GHz) overclocked to 3.45 GHz. It's paired with a 6870 and can play Skyrim on high settings at 1920x1200 resolution fine.

As the other posters have pointed out, current Intel combos can be just as affordable while outperforming the scenarios you put together. So that just leaves your fondness for AMD to deal with. :D I can understand how emotions can get in the way of car purchases where looks can sway you...

Best gaming case? (CM 690 II vs Storm Enforcer etc.)

Whatever case you choose, make sure it has ample room for the graphics card you want to use. I have a Coolermaster Storm Scout. Great design and build quality but slightly annoying me because 6950 or 6970 cards won't fit without some surgery. Here's hoping the mid to high end 7000 series...

Problems booting: stalling on Windows logo
