Ended up buying one of these. Had to same day a DP 1.2 cable though. The one that comes in the box wont let you do 4k@60hz. First impressions:

Don't use Hyper-V. Hyper-V can only "pass through" only so much video RAM (200 or so). What you want is to enable RemoteFX on Windows 8.1 or better yet Server 2012r2. This enables the full video card to be used (directx, limited opengl).

I was looking at reference 290x's (30 more than a 290) Did the same calculations. By the time I got the the extra cooling I'd be pushing up near the custom cooling solutions that had a 90 day warranty. Warranty won out.
Haven't had an issue with my 3770k running @ 45 multi. Temps are even fine loading all the cores. When I built mine first thing I did was up the multi to 45, installed windows and didn't have an issue. Now I just run it stock no point in what I do (more cores are nice + HT) for any more speed...
I lapped the heatsink on my 560ti. I noticed around 10*c drop on full load. Granted the base was really uneven and had ridges that could catch my fingernail. Unless you have a problem like that you wont notice to much of a difference.
You guys realize that newer processors are going to have a kill switch as well? I'd wager about a week after release someone will come out with a "patch" to disable the MS kill code and remove it from the computer. Same thing with a BIOS update to disable the kill switch on the processor.
A few things I've noticed over playing with this release for a few days. It took an hour to figure out where the shutdown button was. (hidden menu off to the right) Also they took away one of my most powerful tools (or hid it). I use the run commands quite a bit so getting used to not hitting...
SATA II speeds
I have mine on an add in 6gb card and it gets similar numbers on everything but seq R/W (which is about 2x higher). Go ahead and get one you wont be disappointed.
