Computer problems from HELL .. need advanced user help

Already got into Windows, but thanks to all for the help. Always good to know you're not on your own when it comes to this stuff! I re-set the CMOS by taking the battery out for 10 min and it posted. But then I'd have to re-set it again to get it to post after I powered down.. the third time...

Well I'm hoping its something that simple. I don't have any voltage meter to check though. I do however have two older motherboards (one dead one, one from the amd 64 days), could I possibly re-use those CMOS batteries if it came to that? I feel like everything about this is quite odd. BIOS...

Cleared the CMOS again, and it booted up and posted as well. It actually shut itself down after the first three seconds, restarted itself, and then I got into BIOS, monitored temps.. they were fine. Got right into Windows fine too. Let it run for a while, everything worked perfectly. Then when...

This computer is pretty old, and was on Windows XP. But I know there is something similar for that too, I just have to press F8. That's definitely what I'll try next though, thanks for the suggestions. Already tried the RAM, unless of course both sticks are somehow bad. Never know with my luck...

Thanks for the replies thus far.. weird thing is, the power supply is from my very first build, TEN years ago. Can't believe the motherboard is dying before it. Now what really sucks is I have to not only get a new motherboard, but a new CPU and RAM as well since I can't find any 775 boards...

Still don't think I need an SSD

I love the speed difference of SSD, but I'm easily willing to admit just how ridiculously overblown the hype around SSD is. I just have a hard time believing there are that many ordinary people using the type of heavyweight applications that SSD reduces load times on. I keep seeing enthusiasts...

The Ram is too damn high!

How much improvement will I really notice with ssd?

All an SSD did for me was eliminate long load times.. Anything that used to take 10-30 seconds to load had its load time reduced to 1-10 seconds. unfortunately, this dosen't really help me with anything other than boot time and a heavily modded game I have that would otherwise take 7 mins to...

How much have hard drives improved over the past...5 years or so?

They are LESS reliable and MORE expensive (thanks to price fixing under the guise of a flood). Hard drives have become more like disposable goods that die within 1-2 years. I would hang onto all old drives, as they just don't make em like they used to.

I think 120Hz has ruined me!

I think something else could be wrong. Are you using Vysnc with Tripple Buffering when running 60hz? Maybe try manually capping games to 60fps if you can. It only takes me like 15 seconds for my eyes to adjust from 120hz to 60hz.. it shouldn't have been a big enough change to where you can't...

Other than a listening test, how do you know whether an amp sounds warm or cold?

That's almost never going to happen. You have to go pretty darned high end before you want to put emphasis on the mid range. Its easily the hardest range to reproduce accurately. That's why so many people with entry to mid level equipment benefit from EQ's set in a "V" or Smiley Face...

Are OCZ reliable?

I had an OCZ power supply, it lasted literally a month after the 3 year warranty expired. 3 years out of a power supply is pretty disappointing, when I've got an Antec power supply approaching its 10 year anniversary from my very first build.
