Use the default settings for global project options and whatever resolution you want. Select DivX low-motion video: 500-1500 bit-rate, 10 sec keyframe, 100 crispness. For audio you have 2 choices, MP3 if you want to direct stream copy in Virtual Dub or PCM to encode with Virtual Dub. Run Flask...
The Plextor software can cause problems with CloneCD. The Iomega drive is just a rebadged Plextor. From what I hear the renaming takes less than a second and works perfectly. :)
The CloneCD site has a list of drives that read subchannel data. Link.
Didn't mean to imply the 2100S is a great card (don't know, don't have one) and enough people are having performance problems with it to make you think twice. But HD Tach 2.6x probably isn't the best to benchmark a RAID array.
The CD auto insert notification gives me a BSOD when testing my...
HD Tach is no good for testing RAID arrays. Try RAIDmark or just write a large file to the array and time it with a watch. It's the write performance that counts, right?
DivX Deux is around the corner!
For DivX video editing VirtualDub is the way to go. Use a lower data rate encoding with Flask but you can adjust it in VirDub. Encode to PCM and convert to DivX audio - you can adjust the bit rate for audio too.
It is DDR ram but it is shown as SDR. Something about the drivers... :Q
A site did a review with pics of the RAM and it's the same as what was used on a GeForce DDR.
The multimedia center can be installed after the drivers. Click on the ATI icon in the taskbar to see if it is installed.
If you don't need 3D acceleration or a TV tuner Pinnacle has the Studio DC10 with composite and S-video in and out. Probly the 'best bang for the buck' at under $100.00.
Is the DVDR1000 a stand-alone recorder or a burner drive?
The press release is misleading, DVD+RW uses one laser for read and writes but a DVD player/ROM drive MUST be able to read DVD+RW as a additional format.
<< don't expect a 100% increase in read or write transfers, 50-75% is more realistic >>
Actually, I've noticed > 80% increase in write transfers with a IDE subsystem and from SCSI bus to IDE RAID it is nearly 100%. I'm talking performance I've noticed with Windows and DOS transfers and a/v...
<< and the IDE Raid Card with two ATA 100 HDDs (Raid 0) I should get faster HDD access than I would wihtout the controller? >>
IDE & SCSI RAID will do nothing to improve access or seek times. It will only increase the data transfer rates. For OS performance the access time is more...
The definition of RAID disk types are:
Software based
The array is managed by software running in a host computer using the host CPU bandwidth. The disadvantages with this method are the load on the host CPU and the need for different software for each operating system.
SCSI to SCSI

The reserve sector could be corrupted and if it is even rebuilding the array won't fix the problem. Here's the instructions for removing a bad reserve sector. I had to do it once after a few rebuilds with different stripe sizes. Don't forget to read the warning halfway down the page!
<< Does anybody know if this is normal? Even duping a folder in the same drives takes longer than normal. >>
No. Something isn't right but I could only suggest to start from scratch and rebuild the array. Not something you can do without losing the data. The CPU usage should max ~15%...
The VIA MVP3 chipset supports AGP 2x and ATA-66. It gives a little more room for upgrades over the 430 TX boards if you don't mind going away from Intel. My personal preference is for Tyan but that's only because I haven't used a Epox before.
Yeah they don't really "wear down" but the teflon coating wore off on mine. Just got a new one and it "glides" better than the old one. Not that it takes much to move a 5oz mouse but I want to keep it new as long as possible.
PowerLeap uses a K6-3 instead of the Evergreen's K6-2 but I think it cost a little more. Well worth it IMHO. I've heard bad things about the Evergreen PCI CPU upgrade so don't consider it unless you want a headache.
I would be very interested in how the performance is with 96 vs. 64MB. I...
<< With the desktop I have, though, I've found that I do need a mousepad - I use the thin 3M Precise Mousing Surface. >>
The only complaint I have with optical mice is the teflon "feet" wear down after awhile without a mousepad. I ordered a ratpadz from 3DCool but they're on...
Ugate's are nice too.
Linksys has a USB router but the USB cable only connects with the computer. It still uses network jacks to connect the modem and other computers. The USB modem they sell connects to the computer without a NIC but won't hook up to a standard router.
Maybe they'll come...
All routers have RJ-45 jacks but they are coming out with USB ethernet products. You would need to connect the modem to the computer and then use another networking solution. Belkin makes a USB home network gadget if you dont want to hassle with NIC's and ICS.
1. Check the manual.
2. Yes - disable 'em if you don't need 'em. edited
3. IRQ conflicts? - probly yes.
4. Check the manual.
5. Yes - 128MB sticks usually run at a lower latency (lower is better).
?? Why a new m/b? The Abit Be6-2 is a good board!
<< It's a really awesome FPS mouse and I don't seem to have any stuttering problems like some other people say they have. >>
It's a great gaming mouse IMO. The thumb buttons are nice for web browsing and in games. Using a MouseMan wheel mouse now and missing the Explorer very much.
May it...
PowerStrip is a good overclocking utility if you want to squeeze out a few more FPS. Good for setting color profiles for games too.
Watch the demo at least once and then sit back and wait for the DX8 drivers.

The Optiplex dont work without the auxillary plug. Tested it to find out but it wont boot up. The power light comes on but flashes amber and it doesn't shut off until you pull the plug.
I would get a Enermax for a replacement instead of a cheapo 110 watt Dell.
8 votes and so far a 50% failure rate. :disgust:
The support is great though. A few lame questions to make sure its defective (can't be much else when the LED doesnt light up) and they send you a new one.
I think a mouse should last at least a couple of years but since optical's are so new...
The POS died today after 7 months of use. The LED started flickering last night and now it is completely out. No wonder they came out with a new version so quickly. But since this is the best damn mouse I've ever used I guess I'll try to get a replacement. I hope their support line is open...
DiamondFire13 What type of enclosure do you want to build? If you want a 3 way monitor I would go with a 12" over a 10". If you do a sub box then 2 10's would really pack a punch.
Do a little research on enclosures before you decide on the drivers. A 3 way MTM design will give...
Sound quality and what drivers to use is a argument that no one will ever win. A perfectly balanced system depends on placement of the speakers in relation to the listening distance, the room size (car or home) and the equipment used.
Matching it all up isn't the eaisest thing to do. You...
NTFS for Win98 also works in Win95. DOS support is pricey but for Win98 has full read/write capabilities in Windows. You do have to run WinNT since it uses the installed kernel to work.
Nice backup unit!
APC had the 700, 700XL, 700NET, 700XLNET, 700RM (rack mount) & 700RMNET. You should get whatever you ordered but make sure you dont get gouged on shipping.
The Smart-UPS line had a 250 up to a 5000 (only $3,500) drool...
Dunno how it will perform and who knows when it will start shipping?
They show it at the ATI site: Radeon 32MB
The PCI version also has video out like the Inno3D GeForce2 MX.
Radeon 32MB SDR PCI VO (video-out)
all features including TV/VCR output support
The 32MB Radeon PCI version should be out soon. It will probably be a little cheaper than the V5 w/64MB. I would wait for a roundup of the big 3 before buying.
The whole idea behind setting your own settings is so Windows wont resize the swap file size when more cache is needed. If you are fetching everything from ram then the hard drive swap file size would be "0" but when more is needed then Windows will resize it to 10, 20, 50, 100 or...
Probly a burnt cap. Check the PCB for burnt spots or the caps (little green things) for gooey stuff leaking out. If you find a bad one then desolder and replace it. If it's anything else it'd be eaiser + cheaper to replace the PSU.
