  1. Intel "Haswell" Speculation thread

Not...They've play this trick on Sandy Bridge, where no extra space is required for the AVX compared to Westmere for the new register file system and a new front-end. Although I have absolutely no idea where and how much other small improvements can be made this time.
  2. In what Intel CPU generation will 8 cores be introduced?

That's not a problem on desktop as long as Intel provide them at a more friendly price, which is definitely not a problem as they are quite good at manufacturing, unlike GF. Also NVIDIA's GPU was and will continue to be a good partner of Intel‘s CPU on desktop market untill Skylake release.
  3. Xeon Phi

A real GPU requires something more. Especially for LRB's SW rendering method - only tex use FFU, while there's a lot FFU in Fermi/Kepler/SI Maybe the don't want to do it now but they should in the future
  4. Xeon Phi

Well this time you may should compare with GK110...... BTW, it seems that Xeon Phi has a quite good efficiency(65%, greater than ALL NVIDIA-accelerated HPC, which are at nearly 55%), with a performance / power greater than 1000 (Only some 2090 and Power BQC HPC reach this point)
  5. Trinity desktop is already out!

That's no ture, at least in Windows. The memory scheduler in Windows is organized as, the amount of data I transfer from HDD/SDD to your memory is based on how much free space you've got in you RAM. For instance, If I open like 10IE Tabs. It might take up 3GB mem in total of 8GB. But on a...
  6. Worst ISA evar

......Calling it a computer NOW just seems to be so...strange Although I know It does has some basic structure of modern computer.
  7. The Official AVX2 Thread

I think nether would be true. OpenCL is design to use JIT to make most modern CPU or GPU can run OpenCL program
  8. The Official AVX2 Thread

AVX represents a simple vector way by applying it to normal x86 CPU to enhance theoretical performance. OpenCL can use it but mostly OpenCL refer to the way the nonhomogeneous way AMD use.
  9. The Official AVX2 Thread

I guess the ability of designing DLP software could also be an issue..
  10. Worst CPUs ever, now with poll!

Does it happen quite often? I haven't heard too much cases about this..
  11. Worst CPUs ever, now with poll!

Not..Northwoods is excellent. Prescott sucks, Cedar Mill still OK.
  12. Worst CPUs ever, now with poll!

I've foreseen what this thread will turn to.. BTW why is PowerPC 970 on the list?
  13. AMD adds server horsepower with 16-core chip

However Intel's 2P server with relatively higher RAS features is nearly at the same price of the AMD's 4P server....And of course AMD has better performance in this situation and, I guess, RAS features that's better than which in E5 series(but absolutely inferior to E7).
  14. Why didnt intel use HT on the QX series?

It was there, just not that suitable...for a chip with relatively shorter pipeline and not too much time & don't want take the risk to implement HT on it..
  15. Thoughts, Rumors, or Specs of AMD fx series steamroller cpu

They have...I guess Its just like the term pipeline length has been kind of abandoned by them for which in modern CPU varies from different application.
  16. Wondering whether ASUS N46 is a good choice...

    Won't a 15.6-inch display be too large?
  17. Adobe and AMD Enable Brilliant Experiences

And...I do wonder only on the arithmetic level whether there is something GPU can't "do". At least we get Taylor Series don't we guys? Well, efficiency & speed must be a problem. If I remember it correctly the INT shift instruction in GK104 runs about 1/6 of the FP SP speed
  18. Adobe and AMD Enable Brilliant Experiences

This is merely an old programming guide...The newest should be version 4.0 BTW version 2.3 was..I guess for GT200.
  19. Wondering whether ASUS N46 is a good choice...

I am thinking about choosing a notebook between Alienware 14x and ASUS N46... It seems N46 is gonna be cheap and I'm not sure whether there is a plan for IVY Alienware. But...It does seems to be a lot morecheap...Is it of good quality? Can someone provide me a more advanced comparison? Or...
  20. Is it worth waiting for Ivy bridge?

...I think only LRB will have 100 core with 4-way SMT and a frequency not lower thant 0.8Mhz at that time, and that's irrelevant to Haswell AFAIK.
  21. IB is not 77W but 95W!!

There were rumors in the last year about Intel might perform badly on the 22nm tri-gate..Seems this to be the truth? Its just a manufacturing problem?
  22. Haswell to include a L4 cache?

It wouldn't cost too much if they do not use traditional SRAM technology. Remark that Power 7 use 45nm, still get 32nm eDRAM on die
  23. Can I get Ivy Bridge motherboard for Haswell too?

Most rumors say that Haswell will use LGA 1150.
  24. IPC of FX-8150?

Theoretically its IPC=4 for each Bulldozer Module AMD's idea about Mac-op is different from the u-op in Intel, so its not a good idea use the IPC pre core in AMD as a reference.
  25. Haswell to include a L4 cache?

I wonder whether the L4 use the new interposer tecnology
  26. what is the difference between xeon E5-1620 and xeon E3-1290 cpus ?

That's a..strange changes. Where will be E7's place? Will E7 just mean better RAS in the future? I quite don't understand their approach
  27. Intel to Omit Release of Enthusiast-Class "Ivy Bridge" Processors This Year.

But I guess still they would not released IVY-E as they used to plan to be, as they need to sell all these SNB-E chips first. It sounds better if they cancel IVY-E and release Haswell-E earlier
  28. Intel 3820 Or 2700k (Non Overclock)

I was thinking about wether 3820 is a better choice, as you said you would add another graphic card. But it does not mean X8+X8 performs badly. So maybe you should check your budget first...
  29. Whats after intels "Skylake"

Tech change rapidly aren't they But still we can guess some details of which based on some paper we can see now.
  30. Bulldozer on Windows 8 Consumer Preview

I guess Windows 8's thread scheduler has the same method to organize threads as the new Windows 7 with Hot-fixed does
  31. AMD tests their latest GPU's on an Intel socket 2011 machine to showcase performance.

But I don't think FX8150 is that bad means it can't even match a single HD7870
  32. LGA 2011 Owners.. The Xeon 8 Core 16 HT E5-2687W is finally here

I'd like to say Interlagos chips really looks cool, just imagine how much blocks can I see in the task manager.... And AMD's sever chips also has a better performance pre price these days. Although there were once better at absolute performance. Before Intel released Nehalem-EP
  33. LGA 2011 Owners.. The Xeon 8 Core 16 HT E5-2687W is finally here

FMA3(although, not really a part of AVX2, but for Intel's desktop CPU part, it will first come out with Haswell & AVX2), Gather/scatter support and widen vector-INT instruction are all of great importance. But you're right, AVX hasn't done much so far, maybe we need to wait for quite a long...
  34. LGA 2011 Owners.. The Xeon 8 Core 16 HT E5-2687W is finally here

Actually there's something I'm wondering about...It seems that E5-2687W is only design for workstation beacuse it has a sign W. Also never had I seen servers using chips like W5580. Does that means there's a difference of reliability between the W chip and the non-W chip, or it's just the W...
  35. Will Ivy Bridge delay push Haswell launch forward?

This is just cheating.............Based on the 1 year schedule, as SnB is released in 2011 Q1, IVY is set to 2012 Q1 while Haswell shall be released in 2013 Q1
  36. Which AMD processor would be best?

Absolutely X6 1055T 2.8GHZ K10 is enough for most games, more cores will definately benefit video & audio processing
  37. AMD announces two new FX processors

Any references? BTW now I find calling Piledrive PD is a little bit strange..I mean, I was thinking about Pentium D when I first read your post.
  38. why do people say FX 8 core sucks?

Calling BD's core "real core" is really funny. I once thought that is something only said by those people from developing countries.
  39. Intel says Ivy Bridge delays are due to process, not lack of demand

OOOOOOOOps. Thats bad. I scheduled to buy a notebook with IVY mobile in June....Sounds like I can only bought it in July.
  40. [BSN] Intel Core i7 3770K @ 7.06GHz

I don't think the frequency due to extreme overclocking with dry ice or liquid nitrogen is a useful figure.
