    I did look at the cable and connections, I will look at a new cable though. I forgot one symptom While the "no signal" message is in the center of the screen, I can still see the rest of the desktop normally, watch the mouse pointer glide across the screen etc. Until it blanks out for the second.

    Why not download a better general MIDI soundfont? Even the best sound card will sound crappy with the included set of sounds. I'm a bad explainer and it is really more of a software thing so google up "soundfont" and read up! :)
