  1. EVGA SuperNOVA 550 GA, 80 Plus Gold 550W, Fully Modular,10 Year Warranty,Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply 220-GA-0550-X1 $64.99 @ Newegg

Looks like that deal is gone. Had it in my cart yesterday, free shipping, affiliate code takes 10% off (so $5). Was originally $50. The B-stock inventory and prices change daily apparently.
  2. EVGA SuperNOVA 550 GA, 80 Plus Gold 550W, Fully Modular,10 Year Warranty,Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply 220-GA-0550-X1 $64.99 @ Newegg

10-year warranty probably pushes this passed the B-stock 550 G3 for $45 after affiliate code.
  3. ARESGAME 80Plus Bronze 500W/650W/750W ATX PSUs @ Newegg on sale, see inside for details.

If they honor the warranty then it's a great deal. Some others on Amazon (like Segotep) in the same category. Always a crapshoot with newer companies.
  4. Google Chromecast

I ordered from Amazon the day after it released and got the same status updates. Back ordered all the way to October/November when I ordered less than 24 hours after it was announced? Wtf Amazon.
  5. Google Chromecast

Wow, I just ordered from Amazon an hour ago when they were still taking back-orders for $35. Apparently they hit their back-order limit.
  6. Google Chromecast

Thanks for verifying all of this. I was wondering about the USB cable. Hard to believe a HDTV from 2006 is considered "ancient" these days (HDMI v1.2). From wiki: "HDMI 1.4 was released on May 28, 2009, and the first HDMI 1.4 products were available in the second half of 2009." If your TV is...
  7. Google Chromecast

Chrome just needs an extension that plays local video files and you could just cast the tab to your TV. Using your poweful desktop to decode 1080p 60fps files would be ideal although something tells me there are restrictions with the Chromecast device itself. If it pulls directly from the...
  8. Anyone else having DailyTech blocked because of malware?

Chrome gave me the "malware detected" page so I decided not to chance it.
  9. What is the most trusted brand for 7850, 7870, 7950

I've never had a problem with any third-party vendor over 12+ years. Diamond, Sapphire, HIS, Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA, MSI, Powercolor. I'll consider myself lucky. Warranty-wise I think EVGA has the best warranties but they only make nvidia cards. For AMD I think XFX has the best warranty, last time...
  10. Opinion on pre built desktop please

A 7750 for gaming? It's a trap! If you're looking at a $1000 gaming rig, a 660Ti should be at the bottom of your choices or if you prefer AMD, a 7870. There are other places to skimp (cheap case, 64GB SSD + 500GB). Unless you know you will need hyper-threading, the i7 is overkill for the price...
  11. Upgrade advice for gaming PC.

Yeah, that's an awesome build. You'll slap BF3 around with that.
  12. Buying a Gaming PC, First time in years

Check out the recent mid-range gaming build here on AT: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6229/midrange-system-buyers-guide/2 If I was building, I wouldn't stray far from that since I agree with most of it. Probably go with a full ATX Z77 board and a ~500W modular power supply. Everything else is...
  13. Is Hardware Optimized for Video Editing Worth Getting it For Basic Video Editing?

By building a gaming machine you're already fulfilling your need for basic video editing. I had similar needs before building my main rig (see sig), mostly gaming but occasional video editing (4 hour stretches at times). Overclocking helps with straight-up encoding but don't forget you can use...
  14. Buying a laptop budget $600 ~ $800

Everything was going great until I read "BF3". That just upped the cost to the 800+ range. WoW can play on any modern laptop, dedicated GPU or integrated, doesn't matter. The Y580 is easily the best bang for the buck, 1080p gaming laptop right now if you can swing it. I recently purchased a...
  15. best Ultrabook for moderate gaming?

Right now the best bang for the buck, regularly priced gaming laptop is the Lenovo Y580 as fishsauce mentions. ~$950 for a gaming powerhouse with a 1080p screen. In Ultrabook land, the best I've seen is the anemic 640m LE (basically a 630) which won't even play BF3 on low settings at 1366x768...
  16. Some New Details for the Wii U

Supposedly the Wii U is running an HD 5000 series GPU (link). Probably ~5670. Other sites say it's from the 6000 series. I don't understand why Nintendo just doesn't come out and give specs. "DirectX 11 equivalent functionality 'potentially possible' on Wii U"...
  17. Ghz edition 7970 coming very soon! (Softpedia)

If AMD is seeing 1250mhz reliably, why release a new card at only 1000mhz? Cut it down the middle, 1100 and you're tied or better than a 680 in most benches. Keep the price at $480 and you're back in business until NV responds.
  18. [HOT!] XFX HD6870 1GB - $130AR/FS @Newegg

Can't believe these are still available. Won't be much longer if they keep going for this low. Awesome deal. $260 for 6870 Crossfire is bawse mode.
  19. GTX-690 Reviews are up.

Power usage on this thing is just awesome. How did NV pull that off? What is SLI 680s doing that the 690 isn't?
  20. Recommendations for top quality Nvidia card maker (no EVGA)?

It's all the same to me, I just look at the warranty and EVGA always comes out on top. Sounds like you had bad luck with them but their warranty should have covered your issues. I wouldn't hesitate to rock a Galaxy or Gigabyte card in addition to Asus and MSI.
  21. 6970 run at 95C

My 6970 ran just as hot even after I replaced the thermal grease with MX4, three different times. 80-90C was normal for GPUs released in the early/mid 2000's but anything above 90C was out of my comfort zone. VRMs regularly sat at 115C. Sold it after a month as I wasn't comfortable with those...
  22. [HOT] Sapphire HD6950 2GB - $200FS @ Newegg

This is a smokin' hot deal. Saw it in my email this morning, had to do a double-take. Sapphire brand, double cooler that is stupid-quiet. If they unlock, that's just icing on the cake. Wonder how long they will last.
  23. G530 + Intel HD vs Athlon II X2 260 + 4250 IGP

All good points, thanks for the feedback. I would definitely go Llano for a new build but I just inherited the Intel from a friend and am debating on switching it out for my current Athlon II X2 setup (in sig). Power consumption is always nice but not a deal breaker for me. I don't use my HTPC...
  24. G530 + Intel HD vs Athlon II X2 260 + 4250 IGP

Assume both setups are the same price for an HTPC build, no overclocking. From the limited searching I've done, the benches say these are pretty even setups across the board with the Intel setup using a lot less power. AT has done comparisons of the G530 and Athlon II X2 250 which is the closest...
  25. 8gb RAM installed, but only 3.99 "usable" -?

Wow that's weird. Like a noob I thought "you has 32-bit OS nub" but then I saw the screenshot. I would not have thought it would be a seating problem if the OS (and BIOS) saw all 8GB. Would love to know the resolution.
  26. Upgrading from an 8800GT!

In computer years, let me welcome you to the 22nd Century!
  27. What about NOT using an H100 ?

Water-cooling is not needed to get 4.8 or lower on SB and, I would assume, IB as well. A good $50-60 dollar tower heatsink will get you that with loads temps at 65C or less, most likely less than 60C. My 2500K at 4.6 with 1.4v never goes above 52C on a Megahalems. The basic $20 Hyper 212 would...
  28. Anyone knows when the Panasonic 4k2K panel is actually coming out?

What kind of graphics horsepower will be needed to run games on that thing @ 60fps? Granted this won't be out for several more years in a consumer form, I would think tri 680s could handle it if we look at 2560x1600 numbers on today's games.
  29. Budget GPU For Diablo III

By that time the 6850/6870s in the pipe might be rare or gone and she'll be stuck with the overpriced 7700 series. If she's ok with buying used, then one should be easy to pick up.
  30. Help: Is Radeon HD 6950 acceptable replacement for 5870?

If I was bitcoin mining I'd be a little upset but if I wasn't, I would be happy with the 6950 (especially if it was a 2GB model).
  31. MSI afterburner 2.2 FINAL is here!

Tirxx is good and simple but doesn't have the OSD like AB has. That's a deal breaker for me.
  32. Best Video card\combo for gaming rig

For a client I would stick with a mid-level single card. Less components to fail and don't have to worry about their sensitivity to micro-stutter. SWTOR is pretty tame, not sure about GW2. Guessing a 6870 could handle it. 2GB 6950 would be ideal if you can still find one.
  33. Budget GPU For Diablo III

That $120 6850 is a pretty stupid deal. It's still bawse mode for most current games. If the 6870 was $140 or less then I would say spend the extra and get that (note the 6850 is free shipping, 6870 is $8 bucks = $158)
  34. TDP based turbo and reviews

My 680 is a dog, good for +50mhz core OC and that's it. Running at stock I've seen 1084mhz as the highest clock so I suppose I should be thankful it's running above the "standard" boost clock of 1058.
  35. Budget GPU For Diablo III

    6850 > 460 at the same price $120 AR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150573 /endthread
  36. Opinion Piece on Social Policies

I like Intel's policy the best: "say what you want, just distance yourself from the company itself".
  37. Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 120GB SSD......$119 + FS!

The faster 240GB Deluxe model is also at $1/GB right now: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2238334
  38. [DEAD] Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB SSD - $239FS

No faster than an Agility 3 or Corsair Force.
  39. [DEAD] Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB SSD - $239FS

Meh, no trim on PS3 and it's using SATA2.
  40. Zotac Geforce GT 430 1GB 128-bit $20AR @ TheEgg

Low-profile fail. Have been waiting for a cheap, low-pro, 128-bit 430 for my HTPC for months.
